I hate to do anything that President Obama does — simply out of principle, however a lot of what we are facing now has to do with screwy efforts by President George W. Bush and the “neocons” in the US Department of Defense. Please allow me to explain myself.
Post 9/11/01, the ENTIRE world backed the United States. The effort against Osama bin Laden was whole heartedly backed by everyone and the coalition that went into Afghanistan twelve years ago did so with broad based support internationally. Everyone wanted to be a part of it.
It was largely a symbolic effort because there were no Afghans flying airplanes into the world trade center and while Bin Laden was embraced by the fundamentalist Sunni Muslims in Afghanistan, they embraced every fundamentalist — who brought money with them. We didn’t attack Saudi Arabia, because they are our allies, but those people flew the airplanes and it’s still the nation that follows the teachings of Muhammad ibn And al-Wahhab (who died in 1792).
The US had a problem in 2001. We entered a rather predictable recession that nobody expected to deepen beyond the standard cyclical recessions that we’d undergone in the past. Politically, President Bush didn’t want the terrorists to think that they had us on the ropes, so he bought off on the whole liberal mortgage program to keep housing prices up and stave off the recession. By so doing, President Bush’s administration sewed the seeds of the financial disaster of 2008-9 that we are all familiar with.
At the strong advice of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, the President Bush decided to invade Iraq – MONTHS BEFORE – the “concerns” over weapons of mass destruction surfaced. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and it was the only hedge nation to curb Iranian ambitions, but President Bush had a blind spot to anything but his misguided agenda. Yes, Iraq was plotting against the US at the time – but no more than Iraq plotted against everyone else. Iraq was not a Muslim State. It was a secular Baathist State. President Bush attacked Iraq –because he could. And though we won, it ended badly.
President George W. Bush ended his presidency such that a charlatan, a fraud, a strange metrosexual junior senator from Illinois could become his successor. President Obama was a man with a clouded past (and a hammer and sickle) who is still an enigma in many respects. Obama, raised by self-proclaimed communists, a scammer who understood the race card and played white guilt like a master violinist, lovingly rubbed shoulders with Weatherman Terrorist Bill Ayers and he owes a lot to George W. Bush. It was George W. Bush, who in many ways, set the stage for him to take power and spend more money than all previous presidents before him had and put the United States into a financial hole that we are unlikely to emerge from within the next twenty or thirty years.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel personally about George W. Bush the way I do about his successor. George W. and Laura Bush could come to my house for dinner unannounced and they’d be welcome to visit and spend the night. I believe that George W. Bush had America’s best interests at heart, but there was a hubris attached to his presidency that I still find uncomfortable. That hubris, compounded with unnecessary lies and poorly conceived initiatives created great problems in America. The man in charge has to take the heat and the responsibility. That’s why I do blame George W. Bush.
Kinda my thoughts on Dubya. Throw in the Medicaid Part D and this man helped sow the Perfect Storm that the Dems nurtured and brought to fruition. Dubya tried, half heartedly I believe, to get Congress to control the Fannie Mae meltdown but that too failed. He shoulda gone out kicking and screaming over that.
Bush's presidency was flawed. I don't disagree with what you said. I do take umbrage when leftists try to excuse Obama's anti-Americanism by saying "well, Bush was bad too". Yes, but Obama is atrocious. That a majority of Americans voted Obama back into office wounds my faith in my fellow Americans.
I think that by the end of 8 years, GW was wrung out. He had a difficult run that was made more difficult by a number of bonehead moves.
I have no faith in my fellow Americans ability to tell the difference between a handful of gold and a handful of sh#%.
I don't have that vitriolic hatred for George Bush that the progressives have. I feel that he let us all down a bit. Obama pursues a destructive agenda with purpose and that's a completely different thing.
Don't disagree, but in Bush's favor, he DID do what he thought (and his advisors recommended)was right. And he stood by what he did, unlike this administration…
You can't compare the two administrations. One had generally good intentions – and lied to further what they genuinely thought was good (Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq) for the world.
The ObamaNation is characterized by every single thing that comes out being a fabrication.
He got the 'compassionate' part of being a compassionate conservative wrong…there is no compassion in feeding people's learned helplessness and government addiction….but out of the last three, he's my favorite.
I'm not trying to bust up GW. I agree with you. Considering the last 3, he's the best. However, I expected more of him. "I" am just a regular guy, and my opinion is dust in the wind. But it's my opinion all the same.

Shocker. Democrats who supported the president’s re-election just had NO idea that his steadfast pledge to raise taxes meant that he was really going to raise taxes. They thought he planned to just hit those Filthy Rich! you know, the ones who earned fortunes through their hard work. They thought the free ride would continue forever.
So this week, as taxes went up for millions of Americans which was EXACTLY what the Republicans predicted throughout the campaign would happen — it was fun to watch the agony of the left. And how did you like that Clown running around patting his buddies on their back like he just won a marathon race. No, he didn't win a race, he just screw 70 percent of the American people, and won some political points. Who's laughing now you Idiots!
The Radical occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue takes more vacations than Johnny Carson, and no one squawks about the $20M price tags.
If there was a real Media, The Won and his Radical friends would be tarred/feathered and in exile.
I think lots of people bitch about the price tag . . . but the media ignore things they don't agree with, and thus nobody hears.

It was my understanding that Bush was warning Congress about the housing problem. I thought he asked them to stop the reckless practice of loaning to people who couldn't pay it back.
LL: We all know that the HOT PLACE is paved with good intentions So, perhaps the effect is the same regardless of the character of the motivating intentions?
That was after the practice started and had carried on to "reverse the recession". His team went along with it and as it spiraled out of control, he worked to stuff the genie back into the bottle — too much — too little — too late.
