I share it with you few who read this blog – simply because. I’m not having a bad day – in fact today portends to be a very good day. But we all still live with hurt and it comes in different forms.
Sometimes forgiveness requires that we first forgive ourselves.
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that’s real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar’s chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
It was the perfect song for Johnny in that time of his life. He was having health problems, he had lost the love of his life, and he was just to depressed with life. I, too, feel that way sometimes, but not often. Just when I want something and Judy says "No".
“You stay the hell away from me, ya hear?” I am drunkenly obsessed by bad ass cowboys.
Fractured. Beautiful pain. I think it’s important to stay in touch with your torments rather than try and hide them with fabricated gloss. We are all broken somehow and that’s OK. That, my dear, is what makes us real.
“The beast in me
Is caged by frail and fragile bars.”
― Johnny Cash. Go JC. Legend.
Drive on.
Tell Judy that her job is to say, "yes" like a good "Stepford Wife"… Then be ready to dodge the fist!
It's good to keep an 'emergency clown nose' on hand to either frighten, and intimidate (those afraid of clowns) or to lighten the mood.
Exactly!
Hehehe! Always with.
Great tune.
I think that it works for a sermonette.
Not always been a fan of Trent Reznor, but I like the song, especially the Cash version. Weird timing, because I just heard this last night on a Logan trailer for the 2017 movie with Hugh Jackman, and liked it then, hearing for the first time.
I think the Trent version might have been recorded at his now-defunct recording studio in New Orleans. That knowledge adds a little additional depth and edge to it, I guess.
The Cash version has more soul to it – Johnny brings it IMHO.
