(h/t Claudio) VDH throws his cracker into the soup on PJ Media. My reaction is “yes, obviously”. It’s not like I haven’t quoted Kipling’s City of Brass at least 100 times on the blog.
Those of us who have served under the standard long enough and read Kipling’s The Vampire know that he’s not talking about scorned love but service to the government. The woman in question would seem to be Queen Elizabeth, but it applies to all times and circumstances.
The flight from the service by US Special Operations Forces operators has been epic and has been kept secret. The placement of zampolits to determine the political fitness to serve is odious and intolerable to many. Yes, I know, the government. needs to rid the ranks of the toxically masculine men in its midst and replace them with more pliable people.
It’s all part of the plan.

As Kipling died in 1936 he was more likely referring to Queen Victoria and the British Empire.
All governments are good at taking young people and dumping the left overs when they think the crisis/war is over.
Not Kipling’s only comment on Victoria:
