A mixed raiding expedition of British Loyalists (paying for scalps) and Indians annihilated a large patriot force attempting to stop them. The models were actually posed in a river to get the splashing correct. This was done with fully dressed models at the Southbury dog park, so there were some perplexed onlookers and pooches. This was commissioned by the descendant of one of the few survivors, Ensign Downing, who, although wounded, managed to escape by hiding in bushes along the riverbank.

Russia Agrees to Supply Targets to the US War Department
A senior Russian lawmaker says Moscow is ready to supply Oreshnik ballistic missiles and Kalibr cruise missiles to Venezuela, a move that would dramatically escalate Russian military support for Caracas. The Oreshnik—reported as a road-mobile, intermediate-range system with very high reentry speeds and potential multi-warhead capability—could give Venezuela a new theater-level coercive option. At the same time, containerized Kalibr units would enable deceptively mobile cruise strikes. Placing such systems in northern Venezuela would force the U.S. to shift ISR and missile-defense assets across the Caribbean and raise the political stakes of any confrontation. The Battle of Kings Bridge
Nimham’s Last Stand” August 31, 1778, known as the battle of Kings Bridge (in today’s Van Cortland Park in the Bronx). A force of American light infantry skirmished with a larger force of loyalists. Loyalist light horse (about 200) had traded shots with the Continentals but could not get at them due to their position in the woods. As the cavalry fell back across a wide open field, Chief Nimham and about 60 Stockbridge Indians (allied with the Patriots) appeared and called the Continentals cowards for not pursuing after the cavalry.
Against strong warnings, they rushed into the open field. At this point, the experienced veteran light horse turned about and ran down the exposed Stockbridges. The cavalry literally hacked them to pieces, including the chief, only a handful getting away. The bodies were left to rot in the field, where local dogs ate them, and the bones were interred in a mass grave. Nimham was an experienced fighter, but why he led his men into the open against a cavalry force three times his size is unexplained. There is a memorial in the park, now known as “Indian Field” (on the left). Congress had supplied Nimham’s group with shirts, trousers, muskets, and a few rifles.
The loyalist unit was the Queen’s Rangers, commanded by Lt. Col. John Graves Simcoe. They are said to have worn tall Hessian hats to differentiate themselves from Colonial cavalry. SC units (such as the 2nd SC that defended Fort Moultrie during the Patriot victory on Sullivan’s Island in 1776) also wore this same device on their caps—crescent, horns up.
I wonder what the Indians and Patriots would have thought of Zoltan? Likely, they would have strung him up on a sour apple tree alive, so that the ravens could peck his eyes out.

I don’t think that it’s anywhere close to Constitutional to tax somebody moving from one state to another. I’m annoyed by governors spouting that. Newsom wanted to tax anyone leaving California 3% under some excise theory and that lasted about a month before he quietly shut up. You still have to wait for a year to rent a U-Haul leaving CA (one way). You need to rent it as a local and return it locally in a week or whatever. New York will be worse.
Recall Limbaugh talking about buying his Gulfstream (I believe) from his Florida home after leaving NYC…a month later he gets a NY sales tax bill demanding pay because he once lived there, EIB was still based there, and had taken possession at one of the NY regional airports when in NYC for a meeting. He had good lawyers.

False equivalence, Rob! The difference is that Zelenskyy is GOOD, and vodka Hitler is BAD. Besides VH should have got used to the idea by now. By no later than 2022 Tony Blinken SAID that we had the “right” to place missiles in Ukraine. Three years is more than enough for VH to learn to like it. Sure we told the Russians in 1990 that we’d never expand NATO eastward. Then NATO signed up Hungary, Czech Republic and Poland in 1999. Then Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were added in 2004. Then 2016 we supported (morally and materiel-ly) the UKR regime shelling ethnic Russian speakers in the Donbas. But so what? Noticing patterns is Hate. I have no idea why any rational person might think we and Little Z are not wholly the Good Guys.

My 6th great-grandmother was killed in a (Shawnee) Indian raid similar to the pictures shown in 1775. She wasn’t in the Wyoming Valley but on a farm in what is now West Virginia. Her son’s recounting of pursuing her kidnappers, finding her body, and rescuing his sisters makes for a better than average Revolutionary War pension application.
If you’re into old books and stories, I recommend “The Little Red Foot” by Robert W. Chambers. It’s a historical novel written in the 1930s. He wrote a lot about that era, and I’ve read everything he wrote, but I liked that one best. Mohawks painted a little red foot on scalps to honor people who fought (and died and were scalped) as opposed to those who allowed themselves to be taken. I look in the mirror today and reflect that no self-respecting Mohawk would want my short white scalp…

I hope so, but fear that we’ll get New Yorkification just like Oregon, Colorado, etc got Californicated. The question is whether the people fleeing NYC are doing so for big-picture politico-ideological reasons, or because just they want to keep a few more bucks in their own pockets. In other words, they’re perfectly happy with the ideology behind our social ills, but they just don’t want to pay for it personally. Instead of fortifying the red states they move to, they’ll wreck their new homes too.
I agree. They will only move as far as they feel they need to and won’t want to leave the social welfare security blanket (while sucking their thumbs). People move from the People’s Republik of Kalifornia to Arizona and are shocked at the absence of generous social welfare benefits. Usually they move back or to Colorado if they have some money or New Mexico if they’re poor (nanny states).
New state plates installed, Colorado ones went into the bin…2 vehicles and 1 enclosed trailer (yup, seriously downsized the motor vehicle and trailer pool)…$632 for ‘permanent’ plates/tags — TOTAL. Now, how come other states can’t (won’t) do that? Gee, might have something to do with fleecing resident drivers…nah, that can’t be it, The They wouldn’t do that would they?

For the most part, unless you’re trying to get REAL-ID qualified DLs or IDs, the wait time is pretty short. It was a bit of a dog’s breakfast when FL switched to REAL-ID because everyone had to qualify, but now that the initial period is over it’s mostly people growing up or immigrants that have to spend time proving they exist (Florida was one of the first states to go whole hog on the REAL-ID thingy.)

Statewide, the tax the rich and work around TABOR propositions won. Gainful employment for lawyers assured. While I have no ties to Durango, the turmoil there between the trust fund snot imports and the long term locals is boiling. Maps showing Colorado’s mineral belt is mirrored by a political blue belt stretching from Steamboat Springs to the North to Durango and Pagosa Springs to the South. All along the belt, the natives are restless. Scalping to follow?

I suspect that Ukrainian submarines would be responsible for the torpedoed Russian ships and the destruction of their submarine escort (because you know they’d be five or six). They lack the heavy air lift capacity to pull it off.

You’re right. That’s a WWI U63-class boat. Those are WWI uniforms, but I had no idea who the gents were. Image searches on each of them identify them as (probably) Kurt Hartwig, Otto Schulze (who was also an admiral in WWII), Gustav Sieß, and Robert Moracht. All awarded the Pour le Mérite, though only one is wearing it in his photograph.
