Your Covered California Update

Blog Post
Maryland signs up 100 welfare recipients in the first week of ObamaCare open enrollment.
Covered California is the portal for ObamaCare in California. When you click on the link to sign up, the link doesn’t work. It’s broken. A metaphor? No, I don’t intend to sign up for ObamaCare. However, even if I tried, I couldn’t.
It did offer me some hope. The co-pay for the Bronze Coverage Plan is $6350.00 and the family maximum is $12,700. That means that instead of current coverage under Medi-Cal, which has no co-pay and free coverage, I’d only be on the hook for $12,700 if I’m poor — and $236 per month. Which means that I go from 0/0 to $2,832 per year in premiums and a $12,700 co-pay. And I don’t get to keep my current doctor. It’s no wonder that nobody is signing up. The poor will want to keep their present deal…but that’s not happening.
How long did the Obama Administration have to put this together? You could have assigned gerbils to do the work and it would have been done better — and from what I’ve seen, the poor won’t want it any more than anybody else would.

There is one class of people who will likely sign up. “The uninsurable.” It’s entirely possible that the only people signing up are the people who can’t buy normal insurance. If that’s the case, this system is doomed and will require an immediate taxpayer subsidy to stay in operation.
Without a flood of young and healthy people who never visit the doctor and simply pay high premiums, the system will fold within 2014 — and either Congress votes a massive subsidy or it becomes Obama’s Folly.
The Democrats better hope that they win the House in 2014.

  1. "The Administration" lis it's ass off and then is upset when people don't believe them, are in fact "Shocked."

  2. I don't blame the uninsurable who wish to sign up. If I was in that position, I'd want "free healthcare too". The problem is that the uninsurable currently use MedicAid (free) or they are subject to very high costs of very expensive healthcare care that break their banks. ObamaCare is very expensive, but apparently it does cover everything with a few doctors (you have a very limited choice of physicians).

However, a healthcare system can't afford very sick and elderly people if it's charging the rates that ObamaCare offers if there aren't a lot of healthy people who are paying and not going to the doctor to offset it.

  3. Not playing here either… But if I was 'uninsurable' I'd probably be jumping on something being better than nothing!

  4. Sure, but no insurance can survive by insuring only the uninsurable. Which is why ObamaCare is stupid.
