Our job is not to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. Our job is to raise children and grandchildren who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.

  1. These days everything that you have to say, makes me shed a tear for not having my grandfather around anymore.

  2. . . . . and to do our best to make sure the world they live in does not require some of the skill sets you and I have acquired over the years . . .

I gotta ask . . . done over an open fire in the back yard on a cast iron skillet??? 🙂 My son and I have too little time for that now a-days it seems – he newly married and caught up in the beginning of his career . . . I'm waiting for the summer and our annual camping trip to put our skillet to work!

  3. It's never better than it is cooked on a cast iron skillet. NEVER. It's the same with apple cobbler. The best in the world is cooked using fresh apples and ingredients by a grandpa in a cast iron dutch oven.

  4. What a handsome young man and how fortunate that he has a grandpa that gets it that little boys need their grandpas, just as much as their grandmas. Having grandkids will keep you young in spirit.
