If Reno was Paris, Georgia would be in Georgia

Note: Turkey is spelled wrong on the map…
Bullet Points:
** It’s rumored that Barack Hussein Obama hates this photo of himself.
** Never trust a dog to watch your food or a democrat to watch your tax dollars.
** Fuel is not down $.25 cents. It’s up $3.00. There is a difference.
** I’m not a big fan of Peter Zeihan and don’t quote him often but sometimes he puts it close to the mark:
“Propaganda only works when you have an uninformed society, and if you haven’t looked up in a while, we can’t even agree on what color the sky is anymore. So yeah, propaganda is doing just fine here in the States. But how did we get here?
“It all started with the fax machine, which began eliminating the staff that once served as ‘fact-checkers’ for stories before publication. Then email came along and only exacerbated this issue, doing away with any auxiliary staff. It isn’t so much that biases went unchecked (although that happened in spades), but instead that there were fewer eyes and brains to ensure the story was actually correct. The opportunity for the less scrupulous among us to make their version of the world known crept in. (The technical term is “lying”.) And…a lot of people like that. Cue the entrance of charismatic individuals who woo people with deliberate deception.
“So if you believe the sky is neon green (or if you’re tired of hearing that it is), maybe check out one of the following news sources: Al Jazeera, France 24, the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Straight Arrow News, or local stations. I’m not saying these are perfect, but they’ll get you going on a better path.”
** Writing & a Personal Note: I was asked in e-mail how my new novel, Broken Toys is coming along. As things sit this morning, it’s at 70,000 words, which is to say that it’s moving along. I took time out of normal writing it to help Mike Watson with his book, Hunting in the Shadows, which some of you have read.
Broken Toys follows former Army Special Forces Staff Sergeant Frank C. Brandt (7th SF – Red Empire) on his journey. Frank is also known as Lucky because that’s how people see him. To some extent, Frank is a little shallow because he’s lucky. As with my novels with Jules Smith, Red Mist, and Loki’s Fire, there is a science fiction angle to the story, which will be a series if the reception by the reading public warrants it. Jim (Old NFO) Curtis and Peter (BRM) Grant may be able to relate, but positive reactions to writing lead to more writing. Writing is a very lonely sojourn down unbeaten paths.
Thank you to Al Kirk (VM Blog Lurker) for the positive feedback recently. Al’s up-beat support earned his name a role in the novel. He wanted that role to be evil so his namesake is an FBI Supervisory Special Agent. Pure evil… His wife suggested that his namesake meet a cruel and excruciatingly painful end with his soul being damned by a curse for all eternity. I’ll try to satisfy MRSKIRK. To be fair, his namesake’s end may come with the sequel to Broken Toys as I now envision it, but you’ll definitely meet Kirk and his sidekick in Broken Toys.
Some readers don’t like the science fiction twists but they build plot, increase character tension, insert some unpredictable twists, and so forth. Let’s face it, with any novel, you are suspending belief to some extent. I don’t write about demons or horror and I don’t write porn novels. So the sci-fi angles.
There have been unpleasant distractions with blog hacks, etc. lately, and work demands but I think that Broken Toys will be live before Christmas. John D (posts as Valueism on VM occasionally) is working on getting me to Norway next month to speak to Norwegian law enforcement on a topic that I’m very familiar with. If that happens, it will be a busman’s holiday of sorts with Norway paying my way. Some of the novel already takes place in Oslo. As those of you who have followed this blog know, I am fond of Norway and Norwegian people, so it can do nothing but beef up what’s already in the novel with more local color as I cruise the fjord around Oslo once again.

So much for a dip into the process of writing Broken Toys. Yet another thank you to the incredibly talented Jules Smith for creating the cover on the story.

The Macchi C2, Caprioni Vizzola F.4/5 and Re. 2005 Sagittario all had very very close design features to the Fiat G.55 Centauro, widely held to be the best Italian fighter aircraft of WW2
The vehicle is the WW2 German Schiwmwagen!
Yes it is
All I knew is that it has (old style) VW wheels.
On 4 December 2021, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a presidential circular calling for exports to be labelled “Made in Türkiye”.
Fuel is down $.25 cents, but the dollar has lost $3.25 in value, ergo …
Personally I prefer Russia Today (https://www.rt.com/) for U.S. news; their editors have a very snide (if one can say such a thing) sense of humor in regards U.S. politics.
Thanks for helping Mike Wallace put out his novel: Hunting in the Shadows; I found I was unable to put down, it was that good/interesting.
either the auto-correct or my eyes jes ain’t wut they usta be
Sorry! “…Mike Watson…”
“…unable to put it (the book) down…”
Mike WATSON
Thanks LL. How about a blog article in saps. Kinds, classifications, proper use… knock out vs kill shot and such.
Ps… maybe have a subject matter expert like Mike Wallace help with the sap article.
Pss. Mike Watson.. darn auto spell.. sorry Mike.
Mike would put a bar of soap in a sock to use as a sap. That’s how he rolls. Old school, Drop the soap in water and the evidence melts. I’m more of a 245 Gonzales guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbCRmisyL7k
I’ve blogged about saps quite a bit on VM. Use the search function upper right. Here is one old post. https://www.virtualmirage.org/saps-and-truncheons/
Great prior blog on saps… thanks. I now see I’ve several years of old blogs I’d better go back and read.
Barranti Leather makes a dandy little purse for men to carry ten bucks worth of quarters on your belt. Special pocket not required.

I have no experience with the actual utility of these products but suppose they might serve in a pinch.
A sock full of sand works well and is easily disposed.
I prefer the soap, but to each, his own. Sand works fine.
Nice chunk of 1 1/2″ diameter rattan, about 28-32 inches long. Nice and flexible, will break bones and do major damage and then you toss it on the fire.
For softies, a piece of firehose full of shot or sand. The stuff from apartment buildings works well, and you can use it as shield edging too!
Writing. I appreciate the science fiction slant to your stories. Adds a certain element of …excitement I guess. Based on how much I liked the Red Mist books I am looking forward to Broken Toys.
I was surprised how small Europe actually is. Back in the 90s my son and some other students on a field trip got dropped off in Mainz GE instead of Frankfurt (long story that involves a chaperone that was really hitting the sauce). Anyhow my co driver and I took off from Lakenheath, drove down to Dover, took the fast ferry to Calais and then drove to Mainz, all in about 6 hours.
Norway was about my favorite place to go to on temporary duty. I will admit that Orland was a lot more pleasant in early July than it was in February.
Norway is very cold in the winter months.
Really? Do the climate scientists know this?
snark.
Global warming will make Norway the new Hawaii.
Norway has better building codes.
You’re a damned good writer, but you also have a ‘few’ other irons in the fire. And it would be nice to see a SERIES out of you! :-)
If Erdogan was serious about it they’d stop with the Türkiye business and instead try to get neighboring countries to change THEIR names to things such as “Giblets”. What if the land was of the Hellenes became “Gravy” or Cyprus became “Cranberry Sauce”. Imagine the joy it’d bring to reporters and readers alike to see a headline such as “Tensions Rise Between Turkey and Gravy over Cranberry Sauce Independence Movement.”
More on this tomorrow.
Or just go back to the original “Ottoman Empire” and call the surrounding countries various furniture names…
I like it!
But I can see the headline now. “Reclinerland declares: Ottomans Obselete”. Foreign Minister Spiro Kontakanedes announces dissolution of diplomatic relations between his Republic and the Ottoman Empire.
I love the scifi, but that’s just me.
Write on.
I have a long leather coin purse with a wrist loop. It has other uses than holding coins.
