The Late Great Speaker McCarthy
By a vote of 216-210, the House ended Kevin McCarthy’s two-faced, double-dealing speakership, as he became the first and only person booted out as Speaker of the House. A bipartisan majority decided enough was enough with McCarthy who had promised to allow congressmen to read an appropriations bill and wait 72 hours before holding a vote. He broke that promise this weekend. Matt Gaetz moved to remove him. Gaetz and 7 other Republicans joined 208 Democrats to vote McCarthy out.
Will it hurt the GOP’s ability to govern? Wow, do they govern?
House Republicans’ ability to govern? Do you mean the losers who wasted two years of power by not lifting a finger to Build The Wall? What is the sharp contrast with Biden’s open borders disaster? House Republicans made Biden’s policy possible.
House Republicans’ ability to govern? Do you mean the losers who wasted two months defending Liz Cheney when she gave Nancy Pelosi cover for that January 6 witch hunt?
House Republicans’ ability to govern? Do you mean the losers who sit on the sidelines while Democrats railroad President Trump with frivolous lawsuits and indictments meant to bankrupt him in legal fees?
The GOP cares about one thing and one thing only. Fund raising. That’s it.
The Teaching Crisis in Arizona
Sharyl Attkisson, who I respect, reports on the problem. Let me weigh in here briefly because I drove past the tiny house slums that are under construction in Prescott, AZ yesterday. I understand that Arizona has a problem finding teachers. The pay is so low that the teachers qualify for food stamps. I have two daughters who are credentialed teachers. One has a BS, the other a BS and MS, working on her Ed.D. Both would like to move to Arizona but the pay is somewhere less than half of what they make and the retirement system is severely underfunded. Why should they move to Arizona and teach? The solution is to raise taxes and apply that to education, but Arizona doesn’t want to do that. The promise of free slum housing for teachers may appeal to some who are starting out, but the blush is of the rose when you can cross a political boundary and increase your take home by double.
I’m torn, on the one hand if the House is in turmoil and can’t pass any legislation that is kind of a good thing since most of what they put forward is garbage that puts the country farther in debt. On the other hand with no one formally at the helm the chances of a government shutdown grows. That means the military won’t get paid and that sucks for the junior enlisted. Been there, done that, and it took 6 months to get out of the credit hole not getting paid (along with the screw up in my pay that happened at the same time) the gov put me in.
The country isn’t run by elected officials anymore. It’s run by chiefs-of-staff. The sooner we acknowledge that the farther along we are to recognizing who we are.
I’m sorry for the junior enlisted problems with government shut downs in the past but these days the military and critical jobs like FBI Special Agents are exempt. The cheddar still rolls in.
The government shutdowns in the 80s were especially tough on the enlisted ranks. As you noted, the civil servants didn’t get a pay stop nor did welfare or others on the government dole. Just the military.
On the public school issue, there are more facets than just teacher pay. Over the years, the cry for better teacher pay as rallied the communists and sheep to agree to up the pay scales. However, there are so many other rocks in the cake mix as to make it unpalatable. In New York and other states, the really bad teachers are put aside without students but still receive the normal pay.
In the mid 90s a CPA bookie who relaxed by watching the Colorado budget to see where money really went, ran several studies on public school funding. After examining the various federal, state and local taxes already in place, the allocated state funds for education and the huge array of other sources of cash, the end result was startling.
First there are a multitude of cash streams in K-12 education from multiple agencies. Second, if the state and local taxes were repealed, parents would have a windfall of school money which they could spend on their kids allowing smaller class sizes, the choice of which teachers to send your kids to and significantly higher pay to individual teachers than the state mandated pay.
Of course, the Colorado legislature and teachers associations were not interested in his data or plan.
Corruption and skulduggery has been part of Colorado since it was a territory. Most of my extended family, and my sister and I, were educated in Colorado public schools. We envied Rangley. They have a producing oil well on their grounds that the school owns. Our football team once pushed our activity bus into Meeker. Ran out of diesel and the fuel gauge was inoperative.
Most elected officials do not want solutions to vexing problems, they’d be unable to game the system by perpetuating the problems they state they wish to fix. Probably the only perpetual motion machine in existence, continually funded by taxpayers.
Eight allegedly super conservatives canoodled with the Donks to spank a RHINO. Both sides of this are as wrong as three guys kissin’ and there is no refining it. I’d say a pox on all their houses, but they’d just mandate us a vax from their cash cows at Pfizer for it. We be screwt.
All McCarthy had to do was do what he said he’d do.
He didn’t.

This latest congressional s—tshow is just this weeks idiocy by a pile of self-important juveniles fighting over the last insider trading tip.
Anyone hear anything in depth about Robert Hunter’s court appearance? Or The Husks treasonous selling of influence? I guess Joe is the first international “influencer”, made millions even without a YouTube channel or Instagram page…and got away with it.
More asinine distractions to avert the attention. Guessing they’ll select a Speaker by end of next week…but shortly after they’ll crank up the latest “Trump Indicted!”…by some rabid dipstick big city DA and chuckling judge who’ll accuse him of defrauding a parking meter so is required to dissolve his entire corporate holdings.
Until gerrymandered out of Ken Buck’s district, I always voted for him. Don’t always agree with him but believe he, along with former Congressman Mike Coffman, have integrity. He was one of the eight ‘maverick’ Republicans to kick Pelosi Light to the curb. He will make a great speaker. Odds? 1,000 to 1.
I think Buck would be acceptable in the Speaker role, hadn’t thought of him.
Mike Rosen – my all time favorite local talk show host – knew Ken Buck personally, and always spoke highly of him. We hear all sorts of reports how Buck is off the rails. I call BS…leopards don’t change their spots that drastically over the years, especially considering everything we get is through some agenda-driven filter by people who see the world very differently (deranged even). It’s like a Political Yelp review that when you see or hear the actual episode you’re like, “Huh, that’s totally different.”
