A mondegreen is the mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near homophony in a way that gives it a new meaning. It most commonly is applied to a line in a poem or a lyric in a song.
Personal favorite: AbbA – See that girl, watch her scream – kicking/licking/tickling/sticking the dancing queen…
Nivrana, the song is "Sappy" – the crazy lyrics I thought I was hearing…were the actual lyrics. You Tube it.
"…he'll give you breathing holes…you're in a laundry room…"
It spoke to me, like a weird dream that made no sense….
??????????????????????????
I still don't know the real lyrics to Dancing Queen. Great song, though.
It just goes to show that if it's Rock and Roll, the lyrics are secondary. Folk music is different. "Puff the Magic Dragon" is about a boy and his magical dragon…
You nailed it as always.
Precisely – they all work just fine.
I got dizzy and had to leave.
