The growing presence of Hamas and Quds in the West Bank caused Fatah to become more cooperative with Israel and its many intelligence and counter-intelligence organizations. ** First Republic Bank failed, was seized by the FDIC, and bought by JP Morgan Chase. There isn’t much in the news. It is the third U.S. bank to fail since March.
(Zerohedge) – In the end, early on Monday morning, the US unveiled a hybrid solution – after all other attempts at a private rescue effort failed – one where the FDIC would seize the insolvent First Republic, the 14th largest US bank by assets, making it the second biggest bank failure in US history, and immediately sell the bulk of its assets and all of its deposits to JPMorgan after a sham but “highly competitive bidding process” had taken place over the weekend (one in which virtually nobody wanted to participate as nobody would buy FRC without explicit government backstops, which in the end is precisely what they ended up getting on FRC’s IO and CRE loan portfolio) while keeping FRC’s toxic Interest-only mortgages to Hamptons’ billionaires.
** (Strategypage) Remnants vs Regulars) Most recent Russian losses occurred in Donetsk province where Russian attacks on Bakhmut (for eight months) and Vuhledar (five months) have cost Russia 30,000 dead, hundreds of combat vehicles, and several hundred thousand 152mm artillery shells. Most of the fighting and losses were in Bakhmut. Ukrainian losses were far less at about 5,000 dead. These heavy Russian losses and little territorial gain have further demoralized Russian troops so a growing number are refusing to go to Ukraine or fight if they do end up there. In past wars, soldiers who refused to fight could be killed by their officers to encourage the others. That doesn’t work anymore because the Russian troops are armed and see themselves trapped between two groups (Ukrainians and Russian officers) trying to kill them. (more)

Another win for A.I. – who didn’t fall into the Mosquito trap.
The Sea Hornet was an off-shoot of the Mosquito, designed as a dedicated day-fighter. Based on the same manufacturing methods pioneered by the Mosquito, and based off of the layout of the Mossie. Surprisingly started as a private venture.
I want one…as you’d expect.
It flew well. Though I’d prefer the Mossie as it has the capability of carrying passengers and a lot of luggage of one form or another.
Iran seems to be getting a better bang for the buck with their foreign aid to the Palestinians than we do.

Another site had a cartoon where a soldier goes to the chaplain for confession because…they just got a new lieutenant who’s actually competent, so it must mean Armageddon is here.
Fortunately, you can make Mustang officers in order to replenish the rolls of lieutenants.
About the aircraft full of horses in transit.
A friend at work rode a 747 going from the US (Minnesota, IIRC) to Japan, to help the field technicians troubleshoot a problem on the plane. He was surprised when the crew came on board in very casual clothes, and then was more surprised when they started blocking off the air conditioner ducts with chunks of foam rubber. He said it’s almost unbelievable how much waste a group of horses will produce on a transpacific flight. The A/C ducts will fill with urine and other output and the foam helps to keep it from running onto the crew.
The plane is practically unusable for anything else after one flight.
A similar problem exists on airliners flown by Iran. They take the seats out to load more people and there are just hand-holds. The heads don’t work so people just go where they stand. The aircraft stink, but the corrosion is horrible.
Air travel to Saudi Arabia during the Haj is always a crap shoot if you stop in London to catch connecting flight. Seems even Africans making the Haj were routed through London rather than just taking a shorter flight across the Red Sea. Heading to the “head” (if it is usable) on a flight during prayer time requires great agility to avoid stumbling over/around pilgrims praying in the aisle. Having been on one flight during Haj which was filled with pilgrims, I’d rather shovel horse or chicken shit (done both) than clean up a plane after a Haj flight.

I’ve mentioned here that I have been on flights where dot Indians washed their bare feet in the blue toilet water and it dyed their feet and ankles. They sloshed back to their seats. On other flights where indigenous people didn’t know how to use the heads. They were seated together toward the back of the 747 aircraft in a block of 60 or so. A few hours into the flight, they’d begun squatting in the aisles. I was flying in uniform, complained and the flight crew moved me into a vacant seat in first class. I wouldn’t have wanted to be the cleaning crew because the deck was awash eventually.
Always loved upgrades as mostly I rode gorilla section when flying on my dime. The extra leg room was the attraction.

Si, I hauled just over 100 horses at a time to Japan . We just put our bags on the upper deck. In flight the air was normal and you couldn’t tell there were animals on board. The horses travel on special pallets and when the pallets roll off all that is left is the aroma that cleared out after a flight or two.
Your friend may have exaggerated a bit which is difficult to believe as pilots don’t make things up like golfers or fishermen.
