FLIP
Pillars and floats are pretty stable, compared to regular boats. This research vessel, called FLIP, purposefully capsizes itself to be more steady when conducting research.

Do you remember – not that long ago.
Identify the Aircraft:
1. Grumman F9F Panther
2. McDonnell F2H Banshee
3. McDonnell FH Phantom
Got ’em.
What about the tank? Some versions were armed.
You got me.
A Doodle bug with a siren?
That FLIP ship is different!
I wonder what it would be like to crew it?
Must be a pain when “flipped” to reorient your bunk, dresser, oh, control consoles, doors, lavatory…
Popular Science had an article about it when I was a kid.

Or piss the captain off and he sends you aft.
On Dolphin AGSS555, we worked many times with FLIP…
Tell us more.
V40 scout car
YES! It’s an Alice Chalmers. V-40
Looks like a fun thing to have at the WWM, no?
It would be exceptional.

I must say, I do like the look of your FLIP.
Let’s set one up on Lake Whitney, perhaps in tandem with an LCS?
I worked with FLIP a few times. Everything on it ‘flips’ too. Two sets of bunks, two sets of hardware in the heads, etc. and the same in the mess. Has to be towed out by a Navy Tug. Oh, and it was built for ONE test in the mid-70s, and has celebrated its 50th year of operations.
Thanks Old NFO – a maritime success story!
