It was perfectly described in Tunku Varadarajan’s review of Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s book, “Original Sin,” as resembling “a hush-hush leftist capture of an infirm president.” A White House cadre, with media connivance, hoped to drag their puppet over the electoral line to win four additional years of power, dangerously undermining the institutional integrity of the presidency.
Memorial Day has come and gone, and Washington’s elite is already enabling the machinery to which the Democratic left turns in the face of scandal—elevating sideshows such as insupportable claims that Republicans are destroying Medicaid or rants regarding President Trump’s dispute with Harvard, all to make this latest deceit disappear like April’s cherry blossoms.
Republicans will end up rewarding this duplicity if they elevate cheap talk over accountability. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is holding aggressive hearings on the cover-up, but they have been too narrowly aimed. Mr. Biden’s using an autopen and Attorney General Merrick Garland’s declining to release the audio of the president’s interview with Robert Hur are small potatoes amid this vast whitewash of history.
If Congress takes seriously that it should act when Americans are cynically hoodwinked, it must begin an investigation into the coverup that matches or exceeds the Senate Watergate Committee hearings.”

In her latest stunt, she is now on a sailboat from Italy, supposedly headed to Gaza to “break the siege.”

What Thunberg is trying to do is transparent. Understand that she has no intention of actually going to Gaza. Instead, she’s hoping that the Israelis stop her from proceeding through the blockade so she can have cameras rolling while she causes a scene. That would be a boon for her grift, providing endless content for the pro-Hamas online influencer crowd.
But that leaves a much funnier alternative on the table – What if Israel lets her through? Heck, dump her right in the middle of a Hamas stronghold.
It’d be pretty hilarious to see how random Gazans, most of whom are fundamentalist Muslims, treat a loudmouth white girl with no head covering walking their streets. The “Palestinians” aren’t exactly known for treating outsiders well, and it might be tough for Hamas to control the general public from reacting to Thunberg’s presence.
Let her and her activist friends live the fantasy life they’ve always imagined in Gaza, and if something happens to them, well, that’s on them.

Long ago, when Red Cell (OP-06D) was new, the Navy tapped me to participate not as an official member of SEAL Team Six (Red Cell) but in an adjunct assignment. I boarded two aircraft carriers moored at Naval Station North Island. The victim commands were the USS Constellation (Connie) and the USS Kittyhawk (Shitty Kitty), carrying obviously fraudulent orders, and an obviously fraudulent ID card identifying me as a Navy Captain, despite wearing the uniform of a Senior Chief Hull Technician (HTCS). I walked into classified spaces (without classification or authorization) holding a coffee cup, barking orders, screaming phrases like ‘goddamned pig fuck‘ and ‘gundecking motherfuckers‘ and ‘you morons are caulking off, blowing goats for a nicke a herd,’ and stole a sea bag full of classified pubs and walked off each ship without being challenged. I left small red parcels behind marked “BOMB.” Is our security better now than it was in the past? Yeah. We’re doomed.

A friend related the Ukrainian Op Spiderweb attack on the Russian Air Force to the Israeli pager attack. A bolt from the blue that puts everything into question. Back in the 1970’s a couple of our “scroungers” ended up on a Royal Navy aircraft carrier after walking into a group of marines being flown out by helicopter.
After acquiring a few “souvenirs” they hid their packs, then knocked on the Admiral’s door and told him his ship was sunk.
Eventually the exercise staff let the crew search for the bombs and they didn’t find them. The ship was taken out of the two week war game for three days.
You can’t be too careful. Don’t trust anyone.

1960’s, based in Gelnhausen, was a SADM unit. We engineers prepared sites along the East German and Czechoslovakian border. The Army wanted there to be too many for Ivan to monitor. One day an unattended M-37 was parked nearby and I happened to glance in the back (always a snoop, was I) where I spotted a SADM! I brought it to the attention of a senior NCO. The poop hit the fan big time. Turned out to be a training one. Likely some career prospects were compromised that afternoon. My instructions were to keep my mouth shut.

My first duty assignment, USAF in Germany. Operational Readiness Inspection. After normal business hours, a “special” airplane landed and debarked (INFIL) some “special” personnel who summarily “destroyed” and “overran” various pieces of critical base infrastructure. My group tried to block the runway when the airplane landed before it could take off again, but were summarily told to “stand down” until after.

That is an interesting story about your adventure , whilst aboard visiting the two carriers . What year was this ? We always set up two brows , an enlisted brow and an officers brow on Nimitz , especially in Navy piers , to include North Island . A senior chief crossing that brow , alone without being in the company of an officer , would be politely challenged and asked to use the enlisted brow , with quite the “wtf was he doing / thinking ? ” conversation being held . What spaces did you get into ? Most have vault doors / locks like a safe , or a number keypad , even disbursing and personnel offices . A strange Senior Chief walking into a space , spouting off shit to people would definitely be questioned by anyone with a crow on his sleave , politely of course . And then this unknown Senior Chief starts grabbing papers and leaves , you must’ve had a good fuckin story . Those types of papers are rarely taken out of those spaces , and remain in those spaces , even some of the pilot briefing rooms are pass lock , number keypad (the old round ones with black numbers ) . I don’t discount your story , and you must have talked a good line of shit . I never see that happening today . Even on the enlisted brow , a Senior Chief from a different command would usually ask to call up someone to meet him on the brow , just due to the size of the carrier and the trouble of finding someone . That story astounds me , the fact that you were able to gain access so easily . I stood Quarterdeck watches regularly , damn near every duty day inport as BMOW , ceremonies , courtesies , and security were part of my rate/job , on the Quarterdeck .

For situations like you presented , we would use a name that no one on the ship had , for instance , The BMOW would say over the 1MC, “Lt. Brown …Quarterdeck” that would alert the security alert team , and no one else . Other ships had other phrases I am sure . We never said “away the security alert team” , except for drills , which were preceded by “this is a drill , this is a drill” . And I meant what I said about the Marines being VERY serious about security alerts on the carrier , even the drills, you better stop in your tracks and not move , you would get thumped , bumped or taken down . I think they hated carrier duty , nothing to do but PT and stand watches I guess , itchin to hit a squid . I only knew a few that I talked to they were cool , the rest I never messed with , on liberty or otherwise . Very professional people , very detail oriented , I was somewhere , can’t remember , may have been Guam , the Marine Detachment Office/Barracks had no landscaping to speak of so the Marines would daily take a rake and make designs in the dirt , they were quite good , looked like some Bhuddist tranquility garden .

No I won’t talk beyond Sea Stories on the internet about my naval career . But I will try to answer your question . I never felt like I “served under discipline” . The discipline is in oneself . “Every standard seems(ed) to be substantially degraded”, I never said that . I’m not in the Navy now , I have no idea how their leadership is working or not working . The biggest change when I was in was when the vietnam era mentors that I had were “rolling out” or retiring . They were all about the job . Be the best at your job , don’t fuck up if you can help it (if you do , own it) , don’t get in trouble on duty or off duty, be on time , be in the right uniform , be a professional .
When Admiral Boorda became the CNO , the Navy went from a 4 point eval system to a 5 point eval system that included community service (or some such bullshit) . That was a curve ball . I think it was wrong . Here are these guys , on sea duty , you’re gone all the time , not just on deployment , out for 25 days in for 7 , out for 15 in for 5 , out for 28 in for 11 ….now you’re telling me on my few days off , I have to go paint a fuckin orphanage , F that . I don’t know when LL was doing his thing , I was in San Diego maybe 5 years ago to visit my son and got to go on board my old ship , the Lake Erie CG70 . The public affairs officer arranged it kinda half assed , not really . But it worked out . The ship looked great , I know the problem areas on that ship , the guys were working hard topside . At some point the Captains Gig was replaced with a second Rhib instead. That was new . The security was top notch , the ship was on the “wet side” . Seemed fine to me . L.L. will be happy to hear as he likes the Ticonderoga Class , that our Plankowners party 2025 after the Decomm Ceremony was cancelled , the Lake Erie will stay in service till 2028 ? I like the Ticos because they’re capable and have enough missile cells to keep them in the fight and I favor a second 5″ rifle. The Burkes are good platforms (all of the various flights), they keep the sea well and they’re multi-mission combatants. There is a value in numbers in combat settings (two is one, one is none). The Chinese understand the numbers game.
I can’t say. It ended rather quickly with flag rank types being embarrassed and Airdale COs and XOs being ass-chewed. The U-Boat types were particularly unhappy with the service. I wasn’t part of the regular effort. They brought me in for a one-time evolution and then tossed me like a used diaper (wasn’t the first time, won’t be the last). I had premature gray hair so looked older than I was. Maybe that helped. I’m not sure “why me.” Part of it may have been confidence. When you’re bullshitting your way through that, you have to be relaxed and confident. People can sense tension and being shifty. I’d been shot at enough by then and was salty enough that it came naturally. To be fair about it, it wasn’t as if I was boarding a Red Chinese ship where they’d hang me from the yardarm. I was authorized to do what I did and if it led to an unforseen blanket party where I was the guest of honor – it wouldn’t have been the first time for that either.
“The discipline is in oneself.” That is exactly the attitude that was on the USS Barb when commanded by Eugene Fluckey. In his book, Thunder Below, he mentioned that he threw the book overboard prior to leaving port on a war patrol and commented that no one on the Barb would not need it.
From the Red Cell side, the operation was carefully scripted by Team Six personnel, the Navy Security Group, and AIRPAC/SURFPAC. At each point, anyone with a lick of sense should have seen through the ruse. Because the CO/XO would take direct heat, they were aware that an op would take place during a 2-week window, several probes. They were not to increase the security that they had in place because of the op that would be undertaken. The point of the exercise was to determine whether they were leading a team that did their job. All of the prep work was done for me. I was simply the meat puppet who operated my part. Both carriers had a large number of civilians and non-ship’s company personnel onboard, carrying out maintenance and repair work, and the brow was packed with hundreds of people waiting to pass the quarterdeck. They’d start checking but would eventually pass everyone with a cursory scrutiny. The others working on the op plan knew this. Work undertaken in blue coms areas meant that only authorized people were to be there but they were unlocked. Pubs were to be stored securely in safes. I found a few drawers in the Sergeant Greenleaf filing cabinet safes that were unlocked and took what I wanted to when nobody was looking.

Do all those lawsuit settlements preclude the administration from enforcement of existing law? Sure hope we find out in court.

I disagree with the “Supreme Court grants Trump…” they did nothing of the kind. They recognized the constitutional authority of the president, they did not give it.

Security in the 70s/early 80s seemed far stricter than in the later 80s/early 90s. But the later paperwork was more intense.
I heard through the rumor mill of a Red Cell op on NS Adak, AK, specifically the NSGA base at the north end of the island. I don’t think it was at the Elephant Cage where my father worked, but another site, that caused some serious embarrassment for the command. I don’t recall hearing about anything fishy happening around the nuclear weapons depot (depth charges for the P-3s). The Marines guarding that took their job very seriously, and just stopping your car along one stretch of road was guaranteed to get a quick response. Getting out and taking photos, as one idiot was reputed to have done despite the warning signs, got a quicker and not at all friendly response.
Red Cell operations are almost always successful. Unfortunately, in the mid 80s, a USAFE fighter base command post was penetrated by the communists by a two woman team. One was an older lady, a Lt Colonel, and the other was a bombshell. They spoke German like Germans and slipped across the border with papers documenting them as putzfraus. The were always good at cleaning and kept getting jobs closer and closer to the airbase. Then they got cleaning jobs on the base and later in the headquarters building. That included cleaning the command post area. The Air Force was cutting back on staffing and so instead of having two controllers in the command post at all times, after duty hours there would only be one.
The bombshell would distract the controller while the Lt Colonel used our copy machine with our paper and out toner to copy everything in the command post safes. It’s an extremely bad thing they got the information, but it really burns that they used our copy machine to do it. At USAFE Headquarters, I would find TS notes on the newspapers or trash that the previous shift did not shred or otherwise destroy properly. Who knows how much classified material went out in the trash. Those were real world mistakes that cost and show the value of red teams penetrating and getting everyone’s attention for a while.
