Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani surged to within single digits of disgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary race, according to newly released polling.
According to a PIX 11/Emerson College poll released earlier this week, Mamdani, a 33-year-old Muslim from Queens who is a state assemblyman, trails Cuomo 54.4% to 45.6% after 10 simulated rounds of ranked-choice voting, a notable improvement from late March when Cuomo was ahead 38% to 10%.
Cuomo maintained his strong lead in the early rounds of ranked-choice voting in the poll, with Mamdani closing the gap in later rounds.
In ranked-choice voting, voters rank up to five candidates in order of preference. Suppose no candidate receives more than 50% of the first-choice votes. In that case, the last-place candidate is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed based on voters’ second-choice preferences until a majority is achieved.
The ranked-choice voting system appears to be working to Mamdani’s advantage, as, according to the poll, he continues gaining ground by picking up second-choice votes after other candidates are eliminated.
Mamdani, elected to the State Assembly in 2020, has positioned himself as a leftist alternative to Cuomo’s more moderate brand of Democratic politics, campaigning on free public bus fares, free child care, and city-run grocery stores.

Equity?
“If we are failing, we simply lower the bar, instead of trying to do better.” People sometimes wonder why I bridle at the use of the term “equity”, as opposed to the principles of “equality” in our modern political lexicon. “Equity” has come to mean the opposite of equality. When used in DEI programs. It has become an “Antiphrasis,” a “rhetorical device of saying the opposite of what is meant in such a way that it is obvious what the true intention is.” “Equity” in its current socio-political context has become a mechanism to mitigate unpleasant facts and obscure failures. This is a perfect case in point. The school board and teachers’ union did not seek to solve a problem, but to artificially pretend it never existed. Our children deserve better. Our communities should demand better.
In San Francisco, The Voice of San Francisco is reporting that San Francisco Board of Education Superintendent Maria Su has found a solution for the declining scores in the public schools: lowering the standards for better grades. It is known as the New Grading for Equity plan. That is far easier than actually teaching students to meet basic proficiency levels. Even in the uber-liberal district, parents were outraged, and there are reports that the plan is now dead.
Cut Spending – Save the Republic
But babies will die, the old and the poor will be thrown off of medical aid and left to die in the gutter, undocumented immigrants will be unable to survive and may have to return home, people who aren’t legally eligible (we call that “fraud” by the way) for taxpayer benefits may be thrown off the dole and have to get jobs, those who build armaments may have to scale down or find more efficient and cheaper weapon systems, we may have to cut back in the number of aircraft carriers we operate, we may not be able to be the world’s policeman or sugardaddy anymore, or fund international art/drama/educational projects in third world countries promoting our “woke” values. Meanwhile, people will complain that we are becoming heartless, selfish isolationists.
I believe it was Rand Paul who put it succinctly: We cannot continue to take in $3 trillion a year in taxpayer money and spend $5 trillion a year. It doesn’t work, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.
Drones

This price doesn’t include the launcher system (below). Maybe I’m not reading the math correctly, but places like Iran crank out drones at $300-$1,000 a copy in the thousands, and the US proposes spending $100,000 a copy for missiles to shoot them down, and we’re calling it a victory?

The Public Employee: PKG has a friend who works (worked) as a social worker in Massachusetts. The friend is American-born of Chinese ancestry. She hates her job and despises her clients, most of whom are poor, semi-to-completely illiterate negroes or Hispanics. I asked PKG why this friend, who is educated, intelligent and not bad looking, stays in this job she hates. “Her mom told her to get a government job. Pay isn’t great, but good benefits and pension.” But the former social worker found an out. She married a neurology fellow as he was graduating from his program. I was told the engagement ring was $50k USD. The groom had to take money out of his IRA to pay for it. The destination wedding was more than the downpayment on a nice house in Orange County, California. On top of which, the bride demanded several thousand from each of her bridesmaids, because “I am doing this to give you guys a wonderful experience! This isn’t about me.” I was not invited to the wedding, which was a blessing. (Incidentally, this was clearly a love match because neurologists are hardly the top-earning subspecialty. If she were a gold+status digger, she’d have gone after a surgeon or interventional cardiologist. Pure gold diggers would be advised to pursue anesthesiologists, ophthalmologists, or radiologists. /sarc TBH I think the neurologist was the only one she could find who was sufficiently whipped to put up with her crap. I was further informed that MIL had a personality very much like that of the blushing bride — meaning that the groom was pre-whipped from childhood. The Other Public Employee: Years ago when I was still svelte and pretty [1] with waist-length hair, a youngish Asian woman wearing this over 1-carat ring on her left 4th finger asked me to put her bag in the overhead on a plane. When we arrived she asked for help taking her bag down, then glommed on to me in the terminal. I asked pointedly about her wedding ring. She said, “Oh, I’m not married! That was a gift.” She went on to explain that she was a MA social worker, and her clients were mostly elderly widows. “I have about eight, ten, rings like that. The women say that I am more help than their families, and they want to do something nice for me. Most of them don’t have a lot of money, so they give me their wedding ring.” I haven’t read the code of ethics for MA social workers, but that sounded dodgy to me.

The social worker violated numerous ethics violations and I am sure could be charged criminally for her accepting such “gifts”, financial exploitations and elder abuse and fraud with not reporting such to her superiors unless they were in on the graft also.

I have to live within a budget. I expect the same from any government entity. It’s not an unreasonable expectation, but when the education system doesn’t impress that frame of mind on students, we get what we have. Students grow older, have children, and when they pass on the ridiculous idea that public funds are endless, with the refusal to accept there are limits to how much milk the cow can produce, the ultimate result is fiscal bankruptcy with ignorant citizens wondering what happened. Some of the most egregious results of this are what was found in the former Soviet Union. The cow ran out of milk, and only those in power had any.
When the cow can’t produce the desired quantity of milk, you eat the cow and then lament the lack of milk or meat. It’s a socialist meme.

As far as anyone knows, they don’t decay. And without getting too deep into the weeds, matter is created, and we’ve seen it made from “energy,” which means photonic energy at the Hadron Collider. There is more that we don’t know than we know. However, there are more answers out there than when I was young.

There is the question as to why the retired cop wasn’t carrying, and why he took the chance of tackling the guy instead of just shooting him.
He might have been…but it’s Boulder (“20 sq miles surrounded by reality”). If he shot the guy (rightfully), the former ‘legal carry’ cop would have been arrested for using deadly force or firing when others are around [videoing the entire scene of course]. Think the Offcr. I do LEOSA qualifications in AZ and try to keep up with different states laws…
I realize that Arizona participates in LEOSA, but it’s a Constitutional carry state so it’s moot. Arizona’s constitutional carry law, enacted in 2010, allows individuals who are 21 years of age or older and not prohibited from possessing a firearm to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. This law eliminates the need for a concealed carry permit to legally carry a handgun in Arizona. Arizona still issues CCW permits though. To me, it’s just a neon government sign on you, your automobiles and your home.
But having a concealed carry permit in a constitutional carry state allows you reciprocity with other states that don’t have constitutional carry.

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms in any jurisdiction in the U.S., including Arizona, regardless of state or local laws, with a few exceptions. This federal law provides a national standard for law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms, regardless of individual state regulations.

I read somewhere that the whole theory of Dark Energy disappears if the universe is about twice as old as they think. Which makes sense, because ‘Dark Energy’ is basically a scientific fudge factor to make everything fit properly if the universe is only 13.8 billion years old. Kind of an interesting thought experiment, no?
