Then there are the rag heads in Iran who live inside of a Persian-Shia world that is fundamentally divorced from everything outside of what they need to do to retain power, while wiping out Israel and the USA.
Nuclear power generators don’t need to use enriched uranium to generate electricity. The Canadian CanDu reactor operates on unenriched uranium with a deuterium moderator. I don’t think that would appeal to the Imam.

Manufacturing as a share of US GDP has been falling reasonably steadily for the last 70 or so years. Nation RE-building after war almost always meant shifting manufacturing there to take advantage of cheap and (I’ll say it!) Union Free Labor.

The Communist Chinese have two budgets. One comes from open state funds, and the other comes from investment income derived from assets of the People’s Liberation Army, the Ministry of State Security, and so forth. Various sub-entities (including the Public Security Bureau) own hotels, foreign mining interests, etc. The profit is secretly reinvested in weapons acquisitions and multiple pockets of the command staff.
I’m not sure if the Russians have similar arrangements. I don’t have any direct experience with their setup.
It is sufficient to say that the United States is not the only place where corruption in contracts runs rampant. The US does it differently. The end of the War in Afghanistan meant an end to an endless gravy train and led to the promotion of a replacement war in Ukraine. Naturally, we puff our chests out and justify things, but the facts speak for themselves, particularly as disclosed more recently by DOGE.
In places such as Mexico (and most of Latin America), military hardware is purchased from local army stocks by cartels and other criminals in need of firearms and explosives. It’s a way for the generals to profit from their positions.

Judging by past observations, the project will never be finished, litigation will eat up any funds, and contractors will avoid the project like the plague. Those contractors that throw caution to the wind will not be qualified, their workers will be substandard, and some workers will find their paychecks bounce. If the project was bonded, the insurer will pay only to the limit of the bond, and it won’t be near enough to complete the building.

Manufacturing – I’ve been retired for nearly 10 years, but for the 40 years before that I worked in electronics manufacturing companies in Florida. Saying that always got me questioned by people who thought it was all made overseas, but everything is made in the US except for things made in the biggest quantities. That’s because every time you double production numbers you drop unit cost by about 25 to 30%, so the more you can make the cheaper they can be. I first heard this around 1980, but the story was the big Japanese companies making TVs would do one test. They’d turn it on and run test software on it (no technicians required). If it worked, it got boxed and shipped. If it didn’t work it was sold to another, smaller company that would fix it and sell it.

The company I retired from did pretty much everything electronic in commercial aviation (as well as military and more). I’d say that “all of it” is built in the US but it has been a while so I’ll say virtually all of it.
Company was Harris? If so, one of the few companies that kept money coming into Brevard County after the death of the Saturn program (some call it the Apollo-Saturn program, but the after-Apollo missions would have used more powerful versions of the Saturn, with boosters and such, as heavy lift systems, completely circumventing the needs for the Shuttle.)

The CanDu turns unenriched uranium into plutonium that can be enriched to weapons grade, that’s how Pakistan got the bomb.

I was a proponent of home units…think Tesla Wall…that were Tiny Reactors, until I realized some crazy would find a way to pull the core and use it to take out the local government building, or his neighbor he’s feuding with over a tree or fenceline.
It’s different than that. If you have moderately enriched radioactive material, you can turn it into an aerosol rather than a fissile bomb. The aerosol (called a ‘fogger’) creates a carcinogenic cloud that works as a terror weapon. If you want to enrich it to the point where it can go critical, there are implosion or “gun” designs that will allow you to combine critical mass. In a nuclear reaction, critical mass must be combined almost instantaneously to achieve fission. For an atomic bomb, a mass of fissile material exceeding the critical mass must be assembled and held together for about a millionth of a second, according to Atomic Archive. This brief period allows the chain reaction to propagate before the explosion occurs. It’s all public information.

we have satellites that can measure down to ? mm; in cloudy weather, we have many aircraft flying over a goodly portion of the US, each of which can be retro-fitted with a device to measure/discern and locate these disturbances.
drones carrying armament/munitions will present with a greater air disturbance than some kid flyiing his around the neighborhood.
IMHO, if we begin today, we can have little to no fear about drone attacks tomorrow.

I was a C-level employee of a drone company that built drones with ducted fans (similar to an electrically powered jet engine) – a completely different design and concept than those commonly seen. If I were going to build units to lift heavier payloads, I’d opt for liquid fuel rather than battery power. You can achieve a greater range and payload, but you pay for it with an IR plume that results from burning liquid fuel (such as alcohol, diethyl ether (C2H5)2O, or even gasoline).

My point is that someone like me, an idiot with a limited IQ and skills, could build hundreds or even thousands of unlicensed drones capable of carrying significant payloads in a garage, using 3D printing and over-the-counter components. Good luck tracking them. You can guide them with 800 MHz (cell phone) systems that are difficult to detect and track even with a spectrum analyzer.

The thing about Tucker Carlson is interesting. I’ve spoken to guests who have pointed out to me his apparent dislike of the Israeli state or at least our support of them.
I can understand why a secular person would be opposed to aid to Israel, especially if they were in isolationist. I cannot understand why somebody would turn a blind eye to Iran and its intentions in the Middle East, however.
I find many of Tucker’s interviews informative but not doctrinal.
As an example, he recently interviewed a young lady about her psychiatric care and the drugs she was told to take. The entire time of the interview I’m thinking, perhaps if somebody had told her she was being overdriven to overachieve in her youth maybe she’d have been less stressed out and not so much in need of psychiatric care. Also a relationship with Jesus might have helped. But none of that was suggested.
In all fairness, Tucker did bring up the subject of God with her.
