  Just a Reminder  

Who would have thought that America would have made a practice of incarcerating political prisoners?

** On Sunday evening, 14 January, Ukrainian forces downed a Russian A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft over the Sea of Azov and damaged an Il-22 plane, RBC-Ukraine reported, citing sources in the Defense Forces. This incident was also confirmed by Yury Mysyagin, a member of the Servant of the People party.

The A-50 was reportedly hit shortly after commencing its patrol duty near Kirillovka around 21:10-21:15 on 14 January. The aircraft disappeared from radars and failed to respond to tactical aviation inquiries, followed by a report from a Russian Su-30 fighter pilot who observed flames and the descent of an unidentified aircraft.

The Il-22M11, performing duty around the village of Strilkove, was struck close to the Azov Sea coast around 21:00 on the same day. After it was hit, the plane crew requested an emergency landing in Anapa, evacuation, an ambulance, and a fire engine.

Again, I’m not anti-EV in concept. I don’t hate you if you own one (though the reverse is often true). But there are financial and practical issues that stand in the way of me taking the plunge. (1) Solve the battery problem – expense and toxic disposal; (2) Build a robust power grid based on small nuclear generators distributed nationwide; (3) Solve the charging station issue nationwide.

** Fair and honest elections would end the democrat party.

** Today is MLK Day (bank holiday) in the US. I find more meaning in Groundhog Day (coming on February 2), but it’s not an observed national holiday.

** They’re back to forcing us to wear masks in medical facilities even though many studies show they don’t stop the spread of respiratory viruses. I’m sure that will increase to the general population as we approach the coming national election.

    1. I wasn’t really “gone.” It’s more like preoccupied. Business is shaping up to be a record-breaking year this year, so I’ll have some blogging lapses. I try to do pre-done blogs such as this post and the next. It doesn’t mean they’re invalid; it’s just that I’m trying to juggle different things.

      1. We are subordinate to your work priorities…as I like to say no one is going to pay your mortgage for you. We’ll survive…heck Nancy Grant’s backstory on that duct toed bush plane was superb.

  2. The Wild, Wild West cancelled because it was too violent. Loved it growing up. The Will Smith remake was horrid. Miguelito Loveless one of the greatest TV villains ever.

    1. I liked the Wild Wild West, which wasn’t violent enough if I had one complaint. Jim and Artemis Gordon were heterosexual males, and I’m sure that grates on the current crop of Hollywood writers, and there weren’t a lot of other types in the show. X2 Loveless was a great villain.

        1. Different times. There was at least one fist fight per episode, often a brawl and of course gun play. It was a time busy bodies were trying to control the violence children were exposed to. Wild, Wild West was considered the most violent of the lot, so it was sacrificed.

          1. I’ll never pass as James or Artemis for looks, but there is some utility in traveling incognito.

      2. We had the best TV, since it’s lousy out, governors and news folks are hyperventilating about Winter weather as if we’re all 3 year olds, maybe binge watch a few WWW episodes.

          1. A lot of time has passed for me since seeing http://WWW…didn‘t watch yesterday (too much plow-age and the neighbors cattle were wandering around…because our grass is apparently better)…maybe I shouldn’t watch, spoil the memories. hehe

    2. When they changed the opening of The Wild Wild West, to have the guy hit the gal that just pulled a knife on him, my sister gasped in shock and said “He HIT her!??!”

    Tesla is fine, so are hybrids, or even straight EV’s…pushing them onto the public who 98% clearly don’t want them or find them reliable (because we live in reality not smoke & mirrors Unicornland) is not. This cockamamie idea we can be all electric is pure stupidity, breaching into malice towards the masses. Funny, 40 years ago gas was being touted as king, electric was auxiliary. Now, like the so-called food pyramid, or eggs are good/bad for you, it’s all flipped by those who have no clue yet insist “they know”. They don’t. In fact they only do damage to normalcy. Why? Because these people who think they know better are not smart.

    Ps. Only -6 here and snowing, not cold enough to hold an Iowa Trump rally or Caucus. Come to think of it, paper ballots and old fashioned lead pencils aren’t “affected” by extreme cold like electronic voting machine connected to the internet.

    MLK was basically a good egg. I don’t really think he had the stature to replace one of the President Birthday holidays, but whatever. I Have been wondering how long we’re going to still have MLK Day, now that all the Marxists have disavowed him for not being a racist, and desiring equal treatment for all.

      1. Fair means that you stand at the dock in belly chains and handcuffs, manacled feet, shuffling nervously as the DEI judge passes sentence on you for having taken a tour of the nation’s capital, remaining behind the velvet ropes — and meekly requesting a bunk near the stove.

    2. King was a serial (and parallel – a little electrical engineering humor there) adulterer, a plagiarist, and mostly a creation of the usual suspects. His greatest value is in being a holy martyr not only beyond reproach, but also above inquiry. King is the focus for otherwise free-floating white guilt. (White guilt being another unnatural thing created largely by the same forces that invented the King mythos. There’s no such thing as “Chinese guilt”, nor do the Japanese feel any genuine remorse for the things they actually did, much less things they never even did but are accused of doing, as is the case with whites. There certainly isn’t any Israeli guilt on display right now. And not that anyone cares, but we can be damned sure there is no Hutu guilt, nor Mongol guilt, nor Maratha guilt, or whatever. Take your pick. White guilt, to me, was born of affluence, misunderstanding of Christian ethics, and of course malign forces.)

      Why do the FBI files on King keep getting sealed for another few decades every single time the issue comes up? (I realize that I’m writing as if FBI records are reliable, but still.) Screwing parishioners and, apparently, beating white prostitutes does not a great man make. King is an industry and the exemplar of “I know [of] a good one.”

      1. King and the Reverend Jessie Jackson/Sharpton are quite a bunch to set forward as role models for an entire race. They flt with the George Floyd mythos very comfortably. A felon convicted of home invasion robbery and assault on pregnant women is arrested for passing counterfeit currency while carrying a lethal dose of fentanyl onboard and he’s now the moral and ethical model for all negro (and presumably mixed race) males. Yeah, not far from the same tree that dropped the MLK apple.

      2. I’m really not too worried about King’s adultery. I’m a big fan of Ben Franklin, for example.

        I don’t think King was some sort of Saint, but I don’t require Humans to be that.
        He made a case, or at least a popular movement for treating everyone the same, and I approve of that.

        As for Jackson and Sharpton, I am not aware of anything positive they have ever propounded upon. AFAICT, they have always been about the grift.

        I also don’t feel guilty about… much of anything. Certainly not things I didn’t do. Any American with US slave ancestors, it sure sucked to be those ancestors, but it’s the best thing that ever happened to the currently living descendants.

        1. Met Jackson once, briefly. Had an office out at the Boulder (CO) airport, he flew in on his private jet with the entourage, wearing his $4000 Armani suit. In Boulder (10 sq miles surrounded by reality) for some sort of Lefty soiree. He was not interested in speaking with anyone, including the airport owner, operated as the narcissistic he clearly is. I was not impressed…in fact (having listened daily to Rush), mentioned to my business partner that he’s a total bloviating poseur with an attitude.

          King was certainly flawed (in private), but he did good for humanity, Jackson and his ilk are race-bating bums with no discernible talent other than talking.

      1. Juneteenth is patently untrue, as slaves in the North weren’t free in some places until 1868. New Jersey and New York had more black slaves than some Southern states.

        1. If we were going to have Juneteenth, it should have been Dec 6th, and called 13th Amendment Day. At least then it would have been based upon something more than a folktale.

      1. Excellent and more accurate suggestions. King, like every man, had his flaws and weaknesses, but he angered TPTB so they “Epstein’ed” him, a practice they have gotten exceptionally good at over the decades.

    A-50. And the war grows. Going to be “Interesting Times” for the next decade or so. I read that some close advisor to Putin was talking about Poland being next. Between the Ukraine mess, the mess in the Red Sea, and the mess that is communist China we will be spread very thin indeed.

    EVs. I agree with you that there might be a place for them but let the free market decide. Way too many subsidies on the back of the taxpayer going on. Also I still have not seen a viable cradle to grave (or mining to recycle) analysis of batteries for these things.

    1. Putin might like to take on Poland, but they’d end up marching down Borovitskaya Ulitsa (street in front of the Kremlin and St. Bazil’s) with Putin’s head on a post. There’s a lot of hatred in Poland for the Russians.

    2. The subsidies and other dictates are the crime. Fix that and all else falls in line.
      Who will challenge the dictates in court? Those with “standing” are complicit.

  7. You opened the question (it only Hertz for a little while), so I don’t feel I’m going off-topic:
    How much is my time worth (while I’m waiting for my EV battery to recharge/wait)?
    What about my safety (wait)?
    (corollary) What are those who establish the charging stations doing to insure my safety (wait)?
    What am/should I doing (wait)? As a paper-pusher will they establish an office from which I can work undisturbed (wait)?
    How many times will I be able to low-level recharge/top-up my battery?
    How long will the cost of electric power remain at the current level against which they’re comparing the cost per mile?
    The above is not at all comprehensive, just a few questions this AM while I’m watching my 4-year-old grandson and wondering what the future holds in store for him: will he be able to rebuild an EV engine as I helped my friends rebuild an old Ford engine back in the day (mid-’50s should you be curious).
    As an aside: will he be able to take apart old, used i-phones and use the parts to build a transmitter/receiver within the available upper ham frequencies?

    1. Those are excellent questions. All are worthy of responses from the EV crowd. I’ve seen the EV people hanging around at charging stations (in the cold and heat), uncomfortable. Many of then are waiting in line (sometimes long lines) for the privilege of waiting longer to recharge. As to security, you can sling your AR-15 (magazine inserted, Condition 1), or you can hold it in your hands, nervously fingering the trigger as inner-city people circle you warily. They (more than anyone) understand that black guns matter. Maybe you hold your Sig Canerattler in .300 Blackout instead (suppressed so as not to wake the neighbors when you fire it at night)? Choices, right. If you live in a woke state, the police will arrest your for trying to defend yourself and the car will be left behind as your donation to parts on e-bay for the inner city at risk youth.

      1. I shot my first deer at age 7.5. Your four-year-old grandson should start shooting at age five or six to prepare for life in New Amerika.

        1. I have my three grandchildren practicing with the PPK loaded with a laser cartridge (it’s much easier to keep all my live ammo under lock and key than the firearms I didn’t lose on my last canoe trip). I may have to re-evaluate when the eldest hits ten.

          1. The important thing is to teach them to shoot BEFORE puberty. The earlier, the better.
            Dad taught his three oldest kids at 6, 8, and 10 years age. Same day at an outside range. The two girls never seemed interested after that, but they both had the same story for me about a group of friends that went out for some target shooting (plinking?), maybe a decade later. Separate times with different groups, and both girls outshot everyone, including the gun owners. Both had forgotten they spent an afternoon with a single shot .22 rifle under dad’s tutelage, and had done no further shooting until then.

            The point is that learning something before puberty seems to get it hardwired in the brain. Don’t need constant practice to remain really good as a shooter, for instance. Also, the older they get, the more anti-gun propaganda they have imbibed, and they might refuse to learn.

    2. What is the revenue generation expected from an EV charging station? What is the total federal and state subsidy to install them? How long can we expect taxpayers to foot that bill? What happens to the cost equation when the federal dollars go away?

  8. Know anyone who is buying a Helix? Too rich for my blood, but would be fun to hear an owner’s opinion of it.

  9. When the VA recording called me to remind me of my appointment, it said I would need a mask. I took mine with me because it’s not a real mask. I did not put it on and I think 99.8 percent of the people were not wearing them. Including the workers.
    Works for me.

    Wild, Wild, West was a great TV show.

    1. I was seriously looking at buying a plague doctor mask(the one that looks like a bird head) if the mask mania had continued. Would lessen the chances of bacterial buildup in the lungs, be just as effective for covid, and would look MUCH nicer.

      1. A LOT of people are masked, and I am in dread and fear of the renewed COVID-19 plague. I just laugh at them. However, they’re just pathetic. They’ll all vote for Pedo Joe and Big Mike.
