2019-nCoV (Wuhan Viral Epidemic)

Even as China’s President Xi has declared that all cause for alarm relating to the corona virus outbreak, referred to as 2019-nCoV, has passed, the us Military has set up 11 quarantine camps on military bases near major airports across the US in anticipation of an influx of American citizens returning from China as listed below:

–Hickam, Hawaii – by Daniel K Inouye International Airport (HNL)
–Great Lakes Training Center Navy Base, Illinois – by O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
–Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Texas – by Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
–March ARB, California – by Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
–Travis AFB, California – by San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
–Dobbins ARB, Georgia – by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
–Fort Hamilton, New York – by John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City
–Naval Base Kitsap, Washington – by Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
–Joint Base Anacostia, Washington DC – by Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
–Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey – by Newark International Airport (EWR)
–Fort Custer Training Center, Michigan – by Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)

Nothing to see here, move on.

While Dr. Richard Ebright refuted several of conspiracy theories regarding the Wuhan Institute of Virology, he told BBC China that this did not represent the possibility of the virus being “ruled out” from entering the population due to a laboratory accident.
There has been a lot of pushback from China regarding the innocent nature of research that is conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, located at the epicenter of the outbreak. Old China hands will tell you that for every innocent research project conducted there, you can expect the government to be funding a military project. That is simply how it’s done in China. The Washington Post wrote an article discussing all of the innocent research that is being done at WIV, debunking any accidental release of a weaponized virus. When WaPo (known for being propaganda outlet) proclaims innocence, you need to think twice.

  1. On your military base list, if ' by ' means within a several hour drive, then Travis AFB is by San Francisco. The others I don't know about, but Travis is where I was as an USAF Res. crew chief. It is pretty close to mid way between SF and Sacramento.

It is a small quibble, but I'm very OC.

    Thanks for the post.

  2. This happens every cold and flu season, WSF, move along. It's a training exercise, nothing to see here, take Banner with you.

  3. There is a rather interesting uptick in "official" numbers today.

  4. And still not a single dot on the entire African continent.

On the one hand it's strange given the Chinese engagement there, on the other not surprising given the level of health monitoring and reporting. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

  5. I wondered what would be considered close to DTW.
Custer did not cross my mind.
107 miles. Makes sense, given it's capacity.

  6. I do find that Naval Base Kitsap is listed rather than JB Lewis Mchord. Lewis has more open space….(empty barracks at this time, ROTC won't show up until summer) plus more open space.
Not sure where at Kitsap they would put them….at the shipyard or the Subase?

  7. It will be interesting to see how the numbers reconcile and if there will be some sort of full (transparent) accounting by China.

  8. Africa is a mess. I don't know how they'd know if the virus was present unless they had a serious death toll. And even then, how would they know which virus killed off the people? Testing, sure. But who would do that testing?

  9. "Close" is a relative term given the locations. Still, the number of quarantine locations is interesting,

  10. I don't think that they'd want to put the quarantined people in barracks, given the persistence of the virus. Yes, I know, 5 days, but in some environments, it may be much longer. They just close off parking lots, put up those modular coverings and populate them with bunks and the necessary equipment. They want to keep positive pressure on the containment area and it's more difficult to do in traditional housing.

  11. close is actually a military term used when target fixing a somewhat large nuclear weapon; as in close is good enough.

  12. Dobbins has no hospital or housing. It has a runway, hangers, admin buildings, warehouses, flight simulator building, a chow hall, and a BX the size of a starter house.

The one thing it does have is the CDC on the other side of Atlanta.
