Passing Moments

Blog Post

Bullet Points:

** Death and Taxes (or death by taxation) The Pyrite State knows no limits. “Tax EVERYTHING” is the new State Motto…..The Dictator says no more new taxes…until he is told to say otherwise. For those that have fled, remember, I was right. And dare I repeat it: “Elections Have Consequences”. For those of you who are snickering up your sleeves, so far – as goes California, so goes the nation.

** Canister rounds matter. So do flechettes. Both of you need them to secure a perimeter, and if you plan to breach the perimeter. WW1 75mm shrapnel cut away sectioned shell, a good example with the shell projectile being a sectioned example, complete with beehive fuse, shrapnel balls, and drive band.

** “War is a racket.” – MGEN Smedley Butler, USMC

** She-Hulk, Attorney-at-Law, may have run its course at Disney and isn’t likely to be renewed. The Woke adaptation of Hulk wasn’t something that I chose to watch.

** Jules – a starving artist – updates us. Jules is an art philosopher who is far more than merely an artist.

** Vaporizing Space Junk – for fun and profit…in Japan.

** Raccoons are going through our trash learning and plotting. They remember that we used to wear them as hats.

** Greek Salad – for ScherieB –

** Los Angeles street art during the “pandemic.” It wasn’t much of a pandemic as pandemics go, but it gave the USGOV the green light to spend four trillion dollars on money for nothing and chicks for free (cue Dire Straits). Lest we forget:

In Gaza

There is a humanitarian safe zone. Naturally, the IDF is screening all the people who enter there, but it only makes sense to do that. Whether it will be a refugee camp forever is an open question. The rest of the place is being leveled.

  1. Snoopy’s Doghouse is a Sopwith Camel.
How did aircraft 1 not drag that rear when taking off.

She-Hulk intentionally tried to piss off the traditional fanbase and thought they were ever so clever when they succeeded. So now of course it will be the fans fault it was canceled.

    1. Snoopy’s doghouse has an antigravity drive as can be seen by the lack of propeller and poor handling when facing Fockers. Apparently the aliens visited far earlier than we thought.

      1. Snoopy’s dog house was powered by an imagination, which is actually one of the most powerful forces available to mankind!

  2. I used to really like the early Sea Hunts. I did open water scuba course when I was 13 and the regulators had changed to single hose but nothing else was different.

Rupturing left eardrum for the second time at 29 stopped me.

    1. My dive instructor knew a guy who blew cigarette smoke out of one ear. Stopped diving myself because the Midwest didn’t offer much in the way of opportunities.

      1. Yes, freshwater dives are not the same in any respect.

RCC – There are “soft” hardhat solutions now that allow you to dive with ear troubles. It’s a bit more money and there are technical issues, but it can be done.

  3. #1 is a French ramjet x-plane. I have it as part of the desktop slideshow on my laptop. I can;t remember the name, but it’s maybe a SNECMA ?

#2 I know this thing, but cannot remember. Damnit.

    #3 Fairchild Packplane / Thunderbird 2 prototype.

#4 HMS M2 with Parnall Peto. Sub started out as a monitor sub with 12″ rifle. Sank after conversion, hangar door problem suspected IIRC.

    # 5 Ought to know, but am bad at WW1 planes.

    #5b “Sopwith Camel”.

    – Kle.

  4. Identify the Aircraft:
    1. Leduc 0.10
    2. Kamov Ka-22 ‘Hoop’
    3. Fairchild XC-120 Packplane
    4. Besson MB.411 launching from from Surcouf.
    5. Fokker D.II

    Extra points:
    Sopwith Camel
    ‘Sea Hunt’ with Lyoyd Bridges

  5. not being a “grammar nazi”, but the paragraph on “Cannister rounds” leaves me cnofused –
    and I do mean cnofused!

      1. I raise you a Covfefe (Might have been a Tweet typo for ‘coffee’ but how many of us have created a new “word”? Heh)

  6. In my misspent yoot, I inherited a 106 section from a guy who let an errant HEP round nearly impact a village. There were witnesses, so. I didn’t know a damn thing about direct fire then or now but was available and there was a SP4 who knew the business quite well and kept me out of trouble. I did whatever he told me to do, so we got along just fine. Leadership, you know it when you see it, right? Anyway, beehive rounds, yes, very useful. I advise you to acquire some if you have the means.

    1. I used to enjoy the 90mm. ball-bearing rounds South Africa developed for the Eland (AML) armored car and the Ratel infantry fighting vehicle. Both used the French low-pressure D921/GIAT F1 90mm. cannon. The French rounds worked fine, but were not so useful against infantry or light obstacles. I watched the pre-production testing of a new ball-bearing round. It led to a novel house-clearing technique. The Eland/Ratel would drive up to the mud/adobe/thatch hut, stick the muzzle of its cannon through the wall or a convenient window, and touch off a ball-bearing round. There wasn’t much to clear out of the house after that…

      1. Peace through superior firepower, Peter.

The jihadists in Gaza are learning that first hand.

        1. An acquaintance showed that 66mm rockets are a great way to knock on doors of mud huts. Especially when the inhabitants are using AK47s to say you are not welcome.

  7. Paper Straws- More idiocy by the demented Save The Planet crowd (who could do Gaia – and us – a favor by removing themselves from the gene pool). Like Dem’s in Colorado’s Statehouse enacting a “no bag” policy, gotta bring your own (because we are apparently trying to be a small European hamlet where people walk 1/2 a kilometer to the shops). Emailed the City “Zero Trash” gal asking how micro thin plastic bags were a problem when at least half of everything in the cart comes in massive amounts of plastic? No response. Stupid Lefty’s running things, making our lives harder with more and more symbolism.

Garland- This POS needs to be tossed in prison for crimes against America. (That’s it, anymore editorial comment would turn into a lengthy PaulM rant.)

Sea Hunt…now I’ll have to stream that if I can find it. That and Wild Wild West. Petticoat Junction was only for the opening sequence. Many will know this reference, which easily set a 10 yo boy wide eyed with anticipation, then staking out wooden water tanks.

      1. I get the inference…but I’m thinking bigger, like an entire prison for the necessary room to fit all our representative criminals, on a ship somewhere in the middle of some ocean (like Escape Plan with Stallone and Caviezel)…preferably out over The Grand Banks.

  8. The first time there are a couple of pictures I can identify :-) Snoopy & Lloyd Bridges “Sea Hunt”!

  9. I’d like to shake the hand (and there’s prolly only the one hand remaining…) of the person who got that sweater on the alligator. But he sure looks cozy, doesn’t he.

Garland and Bankman-Fried. Sigh. The state of this country. I honestly don’t understand this. My take was that Garland was primarily ideologically driven (and I oppose most of what he stands for, but it wasn’t personal animus), but this? Only a deeply stupid person (which he isn’t) or a corrupt person would give Bankman-Fried a mulligan on the campaign finance stuff. Looks like I need to “Think again, monkey boy!”

  10. California politicians lead the way. and inspire, (P)regessives everywhere. Modest suggestion. There will be exemptions for the Hollywood and Silicon Valley rich who make the right donations to the right politicans.

  11. Oh well! not to keep picking away at the scab, but …
“Both of you need them to secure a perimeter, and if you plan to breach the perimeter.”
I continue to read the sentence again and again, but remain cnofused.

Jules Smith is a philosopher (philosophess?) with a distinct (British?) sense of humor.
Besides which, if you have a bright 4-year-old grandchild whom you’d like to help begin reading earlier. Not a plug, just an observation.

    1. It’s like the guy who brought his plastic travel cup to Starbucks. The “barista” (what a pretentious abuse of Italian) made his drink in the usual paper cup, then poured the bitter-yet-oversweetented mess into the travel cup, and immediately threw away the paper cup.

Travel Cup Guy was some mix of bemused and outraged. Pretentious barista couldn’t see the problem. A “reusable cup” was filled, Gaia was pleased, and he (he/him) could feel good about himself.

  12. That’s one helluva slab of feta cheese on that Greek salad!

I hate those stupid straws. They make rubbish pea-shooters. To be wrapped in plastic is just the level of idiocy that reigns over our time.

Love the street art – it has anarchy/Banksy/ Red army vibes.

    1. Feta is on the ‘fetid’ side of things but improves the Greek salad. I tend to take feta in smaller doses.
