Paul M, requesting an indulgence from you, your wife and LL, this is OT. I wanted to ask your wife about a pet problem. I have a 10 # Chihuahua Female, 16 years old. I took her to the local vet, a young woman in a practice with another young woman, they have a boutique vet clinic and while overly expensive, the only game in my local town. I had them provide me a wellness check up and I ask them as my Guido has been having what appears like arthritis symptoms in her joints. My question to the vet about baby aspirin (81 Mg) if she could tolerate it, I would like to give it to her, as formulas I have seen on the internet vet forums don’t recommend a full 81Mg for a 10# dog. Would cutting it in half 40.5 Mg a day, or quartering the pill to 20.25 Mg once a day, it is non-enteric pill form. I couldn’t believe two supposedly qualified vets didn’t have the answer or the references available and kind of brushed me off and wanted to suggest an expensive arthritic medication, which living on two small pensions and SS…
Pardon me for intruding. Glucosamine-condroitin (sp?) works as well on dogs as it does on people. It’s available in a chewable form for pets, brand name “Hip Action”.
As DoO suggests some joint therapies can work to aid in joint lubrication, however the go to is an NSAID (eg. Rimadyl — Carprovet being the generic, less expensive). This is like doggie Ibuprofen, reduces pain and inflammation…pretty standard fare. Never give aspirin (baby or not) to a dog, some may be able to handle it but it’s toxic to most (amount, weight etc.).
FYI- Just checked our Vet supply, Caprovet, in Chewable 25mg for 60 tablets (likely the size the vet will prescribe for a chihuahua) is $21 our cost. Figure double unless they script it out to Chewy ($40 with 35% off first order, free s/h…and they should allow you to purchase online). This med is also as-needed, so not always required everyday if your guy doesn’t look in pain. MrsPaulM was the Pfizer (nna. Zoetis) Rimadyl expert, it has a 10x safety factor (don’t listen to the social media hyperventilator’s…it doesn’t kill dogs). (ps. I am not the vet but this is standard practice stuff for deacdes, nothing unusual.)

I’m seeing FAR fewer political signs on people’s lawns this time around. And 90%+ of the ones I do see are for Trump. I’m often in several rich, highly educated (okay, credentialed) and very NPR-listening suburbs of Boston. There were a LOT of Clinton signs in 2016. Fewer but still plenty of Biden signs 2020. Few Harris signs. Outside of the rich blue suburbs (which could use a few thousand Haitians, each, BTW), it’s 95%+ Trump. Currently I’m in Midwest College Town. Admittedly I haven’t been driving around much, but almost no signs. Even the Usual Suspects and Useful Idiots (with the “Hate has no home here” and the “Immigrants Welcome!” signs) are mute on Harris. I saw ONE Harris/Walz sign, on the lawn of a house in the most expensive neighborhood within the city limits. I know that many of the physicians at the University Hospital, as well as the ones at the nominally Catholic private hospital, live there (no, I don’t live there). In short, it’s a average income >$300k neighborhood (and keep in mind this 300k+ in the Midwest, not Manhattan or San Francisco).
