(Strategypage—h/t Claudio) Before Russia invaded Ukraine, India bought Russian weapons systems because they were much less expensive. When they invaded, it was disclosed that they were operationally far less effective than advertised. When the full might of the Russian army couldn’t roll over neighboring Ukraine (still), it gave everyone pause. Russia stripped its non-operational units of weapons systems, and they, too, were lost. Now Ukraine has invaded Mother Russia, and they seem unable to expel them. Wars have consequences. Europe is rearming, Finland and Sweden are now part of NATO, and then there are trade issues confronting Russia that they didn’t anticipate.
India dramatically increased its purchases of Russian oil after the Ukraine war started because Western sanctions made it much more difficult for Russia to sell to its usual customers. That made Russia willing to significantly reduce the price of oil to customers willing to accept covertly delivered oil (smuggling). India was happy to do so and reduced its higher-priced Persian Gulf oil purchases. This had drawbacks in paying Russia, but India and Russia got around to using China’s currency (yuan). India had few products Russia wanted, but sometimes barter deals could be worked out. The Russians were happy to accept Chinese yuan from India because they needed it to buy Chinese products, notably goods capable of being used for peace or warlike goods not subject to sanctions.
These improvisations are now much less helpful because Chinese banks have stopped supplying Russian banks with yuan on credit, though yuan paid by India for smuggled Russian oil is still getting through. The Chinese fear that economic sanctions imposed on Russia will also be applied to China because of its continued trade with Russia. (They feel that President Trump will beat the whore in the upcoming election) The Chinese trade has indirectly helped the Russian war effort, and nations that support Ukraine, especially the United States, wanted to cut off all external trade with Russia that it could. China was the only remaining trading partner Russia had, and the loss of the Chinese yuan meant Russia had to barter for the goods it needed. Without dollars or yuan, Russia cannot pay for imports or receive cash payments for oil exports. Smuggling is still an option, but that means much less Russian oil is exported, and far fewer foreign goods are getting in.
Can President Trump broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia—the art of the deal? I don’t know, but everyone needs to save face. If the Ho steals the election, the war will continue for at least four more years. That’s a given. The US Military Industrial Complex needs a money pit to replace Afghanistan. Blackrock plans to soak the US and Ukraine for reconstruction expenses once the war ends.

A friend of mine is operatically trained, and will occasionally bust out in song. The last time she did “Ah, sweet mystery of life!”, she proved that the roof of the gym has a nasty rattling reverb if she’s at full power… and that the other lifters were clearly either A) People who had no idea that was possible, and were staring at her, or B) People who’d watched “it’s pronounced Fronkensteen!”, and trying not to interrupt her with laughter.
Perhaps Trump will get so many votes even the vote counters will be overwhelmed. World view, our adversaries prefer a continuation of appeasement and waffling that is Biden’s legacy. Day one, if he can do so legally, Trump should cancel the security clearances of most of the swamp dwellers.
