Interlude

Blog Post

I’m working to perfect the world’s best self-licking ice cream cone. In the meantime, the forum is yours to comment on as you are moved.

Normal blogging should return in a few days.  Thanks for following Virtual Mirage.

I will leave you with a quote from 1984, which alongside Alinski’s rules, is the playbook that we’re operating under:

Since about that time, the war had been literally continuous, though strictly speaking it had not always been the same war. For several months during his childhood there had been confused street fighting in London itself, some of which he remembered vividly. But to trace out the history of the whole period, to say who was fighting whom at any given moment, would have been utterly impossible, since no written record, and no spoken word, ever made mention of any other alignment than the existing one. At this moment, for example, in 1984 (if it was 1984), Oceania was at war with Eurasia and in alliance with Eastasia. In no public or private utterance was it ever admitted that the three powers had at any time been grouped along different lines. Actually, as Winston well knew, it was only four years since Oceania had been at war with Eastasia and in alliance with Eurasia. But that was merely a piece of furtive knowledge, which he happened to possess because his memory was not satisfactorily under control. Officially the change of partners had never happened. Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. The enemy of the moment always represented absolute evil, and it followed that any past or future agreement with him was impossible.

I predict that after President Trump is either imprisoned or assassinated (imprisoned is better because nobody wants a martyr for the wretched whites to rally around – disgraced is better) a Republican (pro-war/pro-swamp) will rise and win the election. See, they weren’t rigged after all.

From the Days of Fighting Sail

Helm Indicator

The movement of the tiller was directly linked to that of the rudder, so there was no difficulty in knowing which way the latter was pointing. Similarly, the whipstaff moved to the left or right to exactly the same degree as the rudder. The wheel, on the other hand, had a much more complete relationship with the rudder to its maximum angle, so it was not easy for an observer to tell what position it was in. The helmsman, of course, was expected to operate by feel and did not need to see the rudder. The officer of the watch or the plot, however, might need to know in order to assess the ship’s likely maneuverability in a particular situation or to measure the amount of weather helm needed, in order to decide whether or not to trim the sails.

Helm indicator/steering index on the wheel of HMS Warrior (1860)

The helm indicator was intended to show him. The first helm indicators in the British Navy appear to have been copied from the French 74-gun ship the Invincible, captured in 1747. The indicator was placed in front of the foremast bracket. A graduated scale covered about two-thirds of the length of the beam. It was probably linked to the tiller, by means of lines leading down through the deck. These moved a pointer back and forward, showing the number of degrees the rudder was from the central position. By December 1757, Captain Rodney was complaining that the new 74, the Dublin, had not been fitted with one, and mistakes had often happened from the officers not knowing how the helm was, and he asked for one to be fitted.  Another type, known as the steering index, was developed in the early 19th century. It consisted of a dial placed on the forward side of the wheel bracket, with an arrow that rotated and pointed to the wheel’s position.

  1. I admire your courage and ingenuity in taking on the Swamp with your self licking ice cream cones. Ahem indicator would have been useful on the Bismarck when that biplane launched torpedo slapped hrr on the ass.

  2. 1. I hope you’re not using Joe to test out the self-licking ice cream cone.
    2. in re The Donald: please have another talk with Pythia; bring along some figs and dates (a bit of Souma couldn’t hurt either): to me it’s beginning to sound like she’s fulla…

  3. Godspeed and Lord help you if you’re successful. be careful out there, thems injuns.

  4. “Basking In Our Glory Robbers Ice Cream Shop” in DC always includes at least a scoop or two of “Grifter Chunk” flavor (it’s all in there, like Prego only a sweet deal)…not only is it self-licking it’s also self-rescooping…never goes away and each year more scoops are added until the holder gets fat, [more]dumb, and deluded. This exclusive “free to Club Card Holders” shop (sorta like Hotel California) also includes specialty items like, “You can have your cake and eat everyone else’s too” frozen treats. Just pick out your preference…no mask required to enter.

Be safe out there among the English…not that you need advice in that arena, but it is getting stranger by the day.

  5. On his Monday show, Dan Bongino voiced his concerns for Trump’s safety. Said that the Secret Service had no plans to beef up (my words) security for Trump’s court appearance.

I am a sucker for mocha flavored ice cream. In my younger days, I made milk shakes with Mint Chocolate Chip.

    1. Caught that as well…and Dan would know. If the Gestapo can’t ‘get him’ on this lawfare charade I wouldn’t put it past them to take him out by reducing his protection…thereafter feigning outrage “over the incident”.

Trump certainly understands what game he’s involved and has good advisers around him. Pretty sure he’s taking necessary precautions with top notch security measures…best anyone can considering the hate being leveled against him by The Degenerates because he only wants what’s best for America and it citizens – which gets twisted into “he’s a cult leader”.

      1. I find it difficult to believe all the hate directed at President Trump, and the (literally) nefarious plots against him. It’s so blatant it’s disgusting.
May God watch over him (and us), and I pray for the restoration of our country and American way of life.

        1. I’m sure the hatred and plotting are FAR worse than what you’re seeing.
          1. The official press* is another appendage of Our Beloved Masters** and as such, are covering for their colleagues.
          2. What’s public is the part that they think will be acceptable to the general public*** and/or what might stick to the wall.
          3. Just because you personally are not mentally ill (and primed with cultural resentment and hatred so deep it might as well be genetic) doesn’t mean that others are not that way.

          * I recognize that you may have private sources of information. Given the sorts of persons who hang out here, I would not be surprised. I’m talking about what’s commonly available to the public.
** Obvious code. Our rulers cannot be named (by us; they’re happy to crow about their power themselves, and do so openly, but you are not allowed to notice). You know how the poor mortal humans in the before-times of the British Isles referred to the Fae as “the fair folk” for fear of invoking them or drawing their malignant attention? Same with The Best People in this fallen age.
*** The tools of The Best People tend to live in bubbles and echo chambers, leading them to believe their views are majoritarian rather than almost freakishly in the minority. Note I said tools of. The Best People themselves tend to live in a fantastically paranoid world view where everyone is out to get them for no reason at all. They do what they do based on a weird mix of: 1) genuine desire to “improve” the world, 2) the doctrine of pre-emptive revenge. Doing in Trump, in their view, serves both motivations.

  6. LL, safe and productive travels to you.

The young lady taking a sip of beer reminds me of a very pleasant trip to Munich one year that just happened to be in October.

RE President Trump. Hope you are wrong but, as they say, hope is not a strategy.

    1. Munich. Same here, 1975. Four of us from my unit piled into a POV Opel and headed down there for a weekend from . Took our issue sleeping bags and slept overnight out in the forest.

  7. I do believe there are ‘plans’ if he continues to succeed. And USSS ‘should’ also have plans, but then that would mean going against the current administration/agenda….

  8. I see where Toyota is bringing back the Land Cruiser. Wonder how much they’re going to junk it up?

      1. My guess is that you’ll be able to buy what you’re looking for in most of the world, but in the US, it will cost $90,000 and be covered in 1800 pounds of flinkers.

        -Kle.

        1. flinkers

That’s a new one…excellent word. And truth on cost and idiotic do-dads.

I enjoy watching YT channel Outdoors with the Morgans, was Ford guy all his life and worked heavy construction as a blaster, even purchased a new Bronco (which I hate) and has a bunch of older vehicles for various tasks around the rural acreage. He just bought a new pickup…a Dodge Ram. $80K+!!! For a pickup. He is self-effacing about it but what are the choices anymore? Buy a stupid EV PU for similar $$, or a something off the lot and take out a mortgage? [Not my] gov’t at work…CAFE standards being only ONE cost driver.

          1. I can’t take credit – an old friend and auto mechanic came up with it.

He also coined “wombly” for those sort of weird, jerry-riggged repairs that people come up with that sort of work, but are a really bad idea in general.

            -Kle.

  9. Two Items:

[WSJ/Bloomberg] Harley-Davidson is struggling to find enough repossession agents to repossess bikes from those who don’t make their payments. And the problem is so big that the MoCo reported a $52.6M credit loss stemming from its financial services division. In addition, its motorcycle delinquency rate rose 46 percent to 3.2 percent from a typical rate of about 2 percent.” Lockdown” spending, then the free checks dried up. A lot of Repo companies went out out of business now there aren’t enough to do motorcycle repo’s…too risky for the money.

Daniel Penny Indictment- NYC is a cesspool…every decent person should move out. No more doing the right thing and saving other’s lives even if they cheer your effort and demand the DA release you. In NYC, YOU get punished, not the criminals. Please Lord, protect this Marine from the Lying Dirty Lawyers.

    1. …The Agenda-Driven feelings over substance Deranged are making this very large drug addict and criminal, Jordan Neely into the victim.

George Floyd-The Sequel (…that once again defies facts)

      1. The liberal left, an yes I repeat myself. Periodically needs a victim to help keep it in power. If an individual is busy hating and thinking they are being victimized they have less time for rational thought. But that is something the vast majority of LL’s readers already knew so I am preaching to the choir.

          1. Part of the problem are enough people who believe the Liars…who take a micron-kernel of lie (aka strawman) then build an entire narrative around it to make it saleable. Circular tortured logic.

        1. Ed- Still needs to be repeated out loud as often as necessary to maintain the truth, otherwise the cretins gain the upper hand.

  10. Saw last night that some govt agencies were undergoing a global hacking attack. So, was it from:
China, preparing to go into Taiwan
    Russia
US middle school students tired of enforced Pride propaganda
US intel trying to deflect attention from a current or new scandal
Meanwhile, maybe we will have a few days of peace and quiet?

  11. What an excellent prophecy and Orwell was prescient too.

It seems they’re fixing to run the Big Guy until it drops. Will Pence take over, DeSantis? Surely Rat Claw’s outta the running, Mittens is feeble and Jeb!’s gone down the memory hole. So, let’s see who the uniparty elects next.

      1. When I first read that Biden said that I was wondering if it was just garbled and people misunderstood so I went to find a video clip and nope, he said it clear as a bell. The media will ignore it but good grief what an indicator that the man is not mentally competent.

    1. I think he is on a super-special business adventure that requires him being disconnected. Alternately, LL is on a real vacation with disconnection.

    2. I know that he was headed out for business stuff as well as family stuff (good stuff, not some crisis) as of midweek.

As to whether it’s progressed to abandonment? I have no idea. But prolly not.

  12. Happy Father’s day gentlemen. Hopefully LL is enjoying the time off with the family. Surely has been quiet lately… STA healthy.

  13. I’ve been busy with work, and some family time wedged in. Blogging will resume next week. Thanks for caring

        1. +1.
It’s funny that sometimes Larry is so prolific that I’m frustrated that I can’t keep up.
Then he slacks off and I’m jonesing for a post.

  14. So here’s something to consider. Briefly, the city of Hamtramck, Michigan has banned display of “Pride” flags and other symbolism from public property. (Yes, I’m linking to The Guardian, but the article covers much worth discussing.)

    https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/17/hamtramck-michigan-muslim-council-lgbtq-pride-flags-banned

As a bit of background, Hamtramck has long been known as Poletown because, although a city entirely surrounded by Detroit, it’s historically been majority Polish. Unfortunately, over the last several decades, young Poles have left for greener pastures and American Negroes started moving in, but were rapidly supplanted by Bangladeshis and Yemenis. (Note that these are peoples generally despised even by their fellow Muslims.) Hamtramck is now majority Muslim, and the Muslim city council banned Pride displays on public property.

I am both fascinated and revolted by this. I recall Poletown when it was actually Poletown. It was a clean, safe, and vibrant (in the old sense) community. It wasn’t for me, but no one objected to me going there to buy (delicious) pastries at the Oaza Bakery, for example. Anyway, Hamtramck is now graced by the call of the muezzin to prayer (yes, by public loudspeaker, so that the Faithful and filthy infidels alike get to hear it), and animal sacrifice is now permitted (no, I am NOT making this up). The money quote is from the former mayor, Karen Majewski: A white, Christian-majority city council in 2005 created an ordinance to allow the Muslim call to prayer to be broadcast from the city’s mosques five times daily. It did so over objections of white city residents, and Majewski said she didn’t see the same reciprocity with roles reversed.

Really, Karen? Are you congenitally stupid? Of course there is no reciprocity. It’s a ratchet that goes only one way.

I’m eagerly awaiting the legal challenges. We shall learn where Muslims fit in on the victimhood scale. (The bigger a victim you are, or claim to be, the more rights you have, and the more untouchable you are. Some people even have laws explicitly protecting Them Specifically not only from physical harm or threats thereof, but even from criticism.) It’s clear that the ascending order of sacred victimhood goes negro<homo<[redacted]. We’ll see where Muslims get slotted into this pseudo-Arian* Holy Trinity of the post-Christian West.

On a practical level, my main thought is: “If only they could both lose.” But if the Hamtramck Muslims decide to “take it to the rooftops” (and I’m not talking like the Koreans), I’ve got my popcorn ready.

*Arian as in the theological doctrine wherein the Son is not co-equal to the Father. Nothing to do with Aryans.

    1. Spot on Mike-C. I remember when the city council allowed the prayer call, people were outraged and offended by this diversity cluelessness…yet the pendulum of destruction continues its swing further from normalcy of grounded mores and decency.

So far I have read zip on any pushback against the Muslim protected class for being so offensive against another protected minority. The professional screechers are between a rock and a hard place. Now what? This will be interesting indeed.
