(h/t Claudio) President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday directing government agencies to “eliminate or expedite” environmental reviews for commercial launch and reentry licenses, Ars reports. The FAA, part of the Department of Transportation, is responsible for granting permits after ensuring that launches and reentries don’t endanger the public, comply with environmental laws, and align with U.S. national interests. The drive toward deregulation will be welcome news for companies like SpaceX, led by Elon Musk; SpaceX conducts nearly all of the commercial launches and reentries licensed by the FAA.
Deflecting scrutiny? … The executive order does several things, and not all of them will be as controversial as the potential elimination of environmental reviews. The order includes a clause directing the government to reevaluate, amend, or rescind a slate of launch-safety regulations written during the first Trump administration. The FAA published the new rules, known as Part 450, in 2020, and they took effect in 2021. However, space companies have complained that the rules are too cumbersome and have slowed down the license approval process. The Biden regime established a committee last year to examine reforming regulations in response to industry’s outcry. Another part of the order that will likely lack bipartisan support is a call for making the head of the FAA’s commercial spaceflight division a political appointee. Scrub the list of deadbeats, healthy individuals with scam health issues, all the illegals and then let it sunset. For those without historical backgrounds, the US military did not pay into Social Security as there was a withheld back pay agreement upon joining. Do your 20 years with honorable service and the withheld back pay would be sent to you in regular installments. During Korea, reservists and guardsmen called to duty lost out on their civilian pensions (Yes, that was when you stayed with a company until retirement) and Congress authorized reservists and guardsmen to pay into Social Security for the periods they were called to duty. When LBJ needed cash to fund the Great Society, military members were assessed Social Security taxes.

If there was ever a chance to eliminate SSA, phased out, or whatever, Dave makes the argument, WTP should not have to pay by force into something that ultimately becomes just another tax scheme with little return on the “investment”. However it fleshes out under PDJT, demographics proves the 20% will always subsidize the 80%…those who as Grandma advised, will never discipline themselves to “save for a rainy day.” (and I’m terrible at this…save for some serious self-discipline, I would spend every nickel I make.)

Retired car salesman’s take on Rams. Best designs, styling, etc. Wretched quality control. Far too much plastic everywhere. After retiring had a job for a few years with Roush testing pre-production and prototype vehicles. Often tested Rams. The route was Henderson, CO on I-70 to Wolcott, back to Frisco, back to Wolcott and then back to Henderson. A gas powered Ram pulling a 10,000 lb goose-neck trailer going eastbound up the west side of Vail Pass couldn’t manage 20 mph. Summertime, you could watch all the gauges climb to redline. Seldom did we drive a Ram with everything working, like power windows or all the HVAC systems, that had over 20,000 miles.
I regard all Dodge/Chrysler/Ram products as Benji eaters (as in a $100 bill). With inflation, nickle and dime is archaic.
My 2010 2500…is a Wyoming bred deleted diesel with the 5” exhaust (thank you original owner) that one can actually see the motor from all the EPA plastic and other motor efficiency robbing garbage removed.
…Runs like a scorched rabbit with power to spare (it IS a diesel so somewhat expected).
Had very few problems…well, except for the weak ball joints that last about two years if replaced with spec ones vs. aftermarket…and…as mentioned here a bit ago…the fuel gauge quitting mid-trek. Apparently not the [typical] fuel pump/sending unit, altho it is suggested it be replaced at 150k miles. At 270k miles figured it was worth doing anywy, altho the old unit was still in excellent condition (one YT guy showed us his nearly new Ram that had a bad fuel gauge reading…the pump had literally fallen apart in the tank). So working thru, checked the harness to the TIPM…all good. Sent the TIPM off, minor repairs but also good. (Learned that past the Power Module the signal is done via Ram Bus, so fruitless to attempt tracing beyond…meaning “hard to know.”)
Therefore…had to be the Instrument cluster. Yup, bad gauge servo. According to Circuit Board Medics they see this all the time, especially Dodge vehicles…with odd board-level components quitting for no reason and regardless of vehicle age/mileage.
This results in countless hours and dollars spent by Ram pickup owners chasing down some nebulous electrical gremlin, which begs the question: How hard is it to purchase better electronic components?
Over the years I always believed if Chrysler would spend an extra $200 on quality components they would put Ford and GMC on the ropes. The Intrepid was an amazing car; the quality was shit. The Dakota was a Dodge St Regis cop car with a pickup body. They didn’t go cheap on components and the trucks were nearly bullet proof. That told me they could build quality if they chose to do so.
When the MBA’s, Bean-counters, and loy-yers get involved at the micro level, quality goes to hell.
Too much cost-cutting. I’ve seen it ruin great products.
I worked for company that had a 2000 one ton Ram pickup with a Cummins diesel. The engine was the only thing that lasted. Other components either failed, or fell off.
‘99 2500 Cummins has 357K on it…just getting warned up. But as you say…a pile of other components have failed, been replaced, and failed again (don’t get me started on this year there was no tank duel pump…until the injector pump takes over when the motor mounted pump fails, unbeknownst to the driver. But – at that time – an $800 in tank pump kit was offered, which we did….right after the injector pump quit. Why engineers decide to reinvent the wheel is beyond this engineer.

94 GMC K3500 Crew Cab , no rust , 7.4 454 TBI , Barnyard Buick , 123k miles , runs like a champ , parts are plentiful , gets about 11mpg , family heirloom . Last big block GM I owned was a 66 ss396 in High School , it got about 11mpg but ran like a striped ass ape . The K3500 is too old to put to work , it just goes out for cruises in nice weather . Been offered 18k , it may someday go to auction . Never going to see a return on what I have in it about 20k total , it is a rarity and a dinosaur , a head turner . 21.5 ft long , 14’7″ axle to axle , or what would be an axle up front . Everything works , but the headliner is starting to sag , like many 90’s GM’s , living in east bf , have to take it many miles to find someone to fix it properly. Living rural , if I had a heart attack , my wife could drive the big bastard through a blizzard to get me to a hospital in unplowed roads if push comes to shove , even has a block heater , never seen a non diesel with one . Wish I could post pics , love to share , it is cool .
Thanks much for the video/song. I dropped a few for practice, but never for real! Yes, the P-3Ns are ‘expanding’ the USCG footprint, as they take some of the load off the Navy for drug interdiction. The long range and ‘good’ visibility, along with radar works very well!
