During the recent Republican debate, Gov. DeSantis announced that if elected president he’d send the US Military into Mexico to ferret out the drug cartels. The problem with this strategy is that the drug cartels run Mexico. So once you’ve stormed the walls of Chapultepec, what then? I was recently asked by a community leader about corruption in Mexico. I replied that they couldn’t teach the US anything. We send funds to Ukraine in the form of humanitarian and they end up laundered and in democrat party war chests within the month. Would we install a “clean” puppet government in the District Federal in Mexico City?
And what about the Chinese ships that transport fentanyl precursors? Will we stop them on the high seas, inspect them, and if we find drug components, will we scuttle the ships? I’m not opposed to that, but we need to think things through from end to end before we toss around bullshit about military action.
** The Main Gate – To the uninformed it appeared to be a group of soldiers roughing it in Nha Trang. When others walked in, they focused on the presence of generators, refrigeration, ribeye steaks, and cold beer.
** If the Left really wanted more power in America, they would drop Critical Transgender Ideology, as this alone is unpopular enough to provoke hostile and prolonged resentment — see the Bud Lite debacle for an example. If the Left wanted power, they would stick to the Global Warming Hoax, which is an effective excuse to centralize invasive and arbitrary control over all aspects of human life, with no discernable drawbacks. Leftists are in eternal revolt against reality, and reality always prevails in the end: With a vengeance as the gods of the copybook headings return.
** FOX has made its choice. DeSantis beats Vivek by 3% and FOX says “one candidate rose above the rest”, while “Fact Checking” Vivek in the adjacent story. Vivek is anti-Swamp. Fox wallows in the swill.

The Pershing incursion as part of the Pancho Villa War was an interesting moment in American/Mexican history but that’s not at all what DeSantis suggests. Bringing the narcos to heel in Mexico would require complete occupation of the country including the installation of a puppet government. What could possibly go wrong?

RE: Pershing, Part II. The novel Last Reveille by David Morrell, the updated version that came out a few years ago, a dandy little tale. Would have made a fine movie with one of the Bottoms brothers as the young recruit, Lee Marvin or William Holden as the old scout and Peckinpah as the director.

Everyone will advocate for keeping their favorite intoxicant and removing the rest. The plain truth is that we need to reduce our demand and the supply. will wither up.

That makes sense if your goal is to reduce illegal migration and flow of drugs. But how does a wall sustain and further enrich the MIC? (Compared to a decades long alternately hot and cold conflict.) Since illegal immigration and dilution of the population of English-speaking heritage Americans is one of the actual fundamental goals, a wall is detrimental and not helpful. Finally, although they always find a way, a hot followed by eternal simmering conflict offers soooo many more opportunities to the aid grifters, think tanks, money laundering “charities”, and SBFs of the world than a properly designed, constructed, and manned wall with rational ROEs.

I think we should have kept Mexico back in the 1840s. It really seems like we couldn’t have done any worse than the way it turned out.
As for going in now? Well, we’re overdue… we seem to do it with regularity historically.
However… no. There’s no point in it at the current time, because nothing would change. The value of doing it is based on America being better than it is there, and that is not the case nowadays. We wouldn’t improve things with the current crop of Swamp Things in charge, Mexico would just remain Mexico, and the only thing that would change is who gets what percentage of the take and all those dead people.

Mexico is our largest trading partner. In 2020, Mexico accounted for 77 percent of U.S. fresh vegetable import volume, and Canada represented 11 percent.
Before we invade, maybe we place small modular reactors in California to desalinate seawater and use it to up our production of the vegetables we import from Mexico. We can pipe water into Southern Utah and Arizona. Their climates will sustain year-round growing.
Then we need to import somebody to grow and tend to the crops. Since the Mexicans wouldn’t do it, UKRAINIANS…
A better way to deal with the whole mess would be to try and help Americans to be moral people so that they don’t want to inject or snort that crap. The real drug problem is a consumption problem, not an import problem.

I deleted my first comment on invading Mexico as being too sarcastic. Same thing with the second, toned down version. Suffice it to say if we ever invaded Mexico the powers that be would turn it into another venue to enrich themselves. It is not that the US has forgotten how to fight a war it is that we no longer have the national will to fight a war to the knife.

My Great Uncle Leonard White was a cavalryman there. He was happy to not be in France. We youngsters listen as he and his WWII vet nephews swapped war stories.

I could never get my Dad, or his brothers, to talk about what they did. One of my Uncles went into “G2”, and was never even asked things. Another Uncle was a paratrooper who went into Noramndy at midnight. My Dad was all over the Pacific Theater serving as a SeaBee, and was in combat zones. He told me once that he and a buddy were building something, and his buddy got drilled by a Jap soldier. I think my Mom made him stop telling me “Tall Tales” (which I doubt they were), and he just quit talking about it.
