I agree with comment about the world wars killing off good men. Every boy in my Grandfather’s family joined in WW1 and 3 out of 4 seriously wounded. But they all came back unlike many. Plus many who came back never married and died young.
Same statistics in WW2 with 2 of 4 wounded. But our family was lucky they all survived.
My father was wounded off Okinawa when a Japanese kamikaze struck the destroyer he served on. The impact threw him from the ship and put shrapnel through his arm. The sharks didn’t get him. (too many sailors and too few sharks, he said) So I came along. The trauma of war threaded through the world and killed off many of the best and brightest. The Japanese didn’t surrender so the military-age males were all but completely wiped out. They’re just now starting to stabilize in the macro sense.
Night sky adverts: Guess electronic billboards and push notifications are no longer good enough for peddling stuff. And nowadays when building in many jurisdictions, the ninny code folks require exclusive “Dark Sky” lamp fixtures that only reflect light downwards, shielding the sky from all that reprobate light. The newer fixtures are fairly decent and work to minimize so-called light pollution despite these same jurisdictions having plenty of lighting for safety, such as parking lots, intersections, buildings, and roadways. How does this “wreck the sky” advertising get past their own requirements.
Then again, when city folk move to areas the first thing many do is install the requisite dusk to dawn fixture “to feel safe”….then scratch their heads in wonder as to why it stops working even though they keep replacing the shattered bulb.
When they move you and DRMRSPAULM to a hive city and you love Big Brother, you’ll enjoy walking through the concrete structure and looking up at ads.

The idiot I report to told me a couple days ago that it is a violation of company policy for me to talk on my cell phone while standing in a weld cell. Where nothing can move while I’m in there. I let it slide.
He brought it up again today during my review because he got tired of saying all the positive stuff about me.
I asked him to show me the policy and he kept saying it’s common sense, and I kept saying no one else thinks so, so it’s not as common as you think.
And no one else is aware of this policy.
So if I want to call tech support and describe a problem, I have to go back to my office. Other engineers in other plants are aghast.
But maybe if I identify as a democrat…..
