Wednesday I went out into the Mojave Desert and dropped by a Buddhist temple where the high panjandrum is a friend of WoFat (blogger) and me.
There are plans to build two much larger stupas (monuments), both 36 feet high in this area. Since I’m not a Buddhist the significance of this is generally lost on me. However, it’s an excuse to going off-roading as well as visiting.
Being in the middle of nowhere is the best place on Earth (paraphrasing a quote from Steve McQueen – and if you don’t know who that is, you’re a child)
The Toyota FJ performed well as I am accustomed to having it operate. It’s a 9.5 year old rig but it runs like new.
Thursday, I’m going to attend a Trump Rally. I’ve seen them on television but I want to be there as your correspondent. I wonder if they’ll give me a Press Pass for the Virtual Mirage Blog? In the event that they don’t, I ordered a ticket on https://www.donaldjtrump.com. For those of you who have not attended a Trump function and may want to, the schedule of upcoming events is on that website.

To answer those of you who want to know if I am only a man of leisure – I try and maximize the time I take for me. Example: The worst day fishing is better than the best day working.  It’s all about time management.

  1. Looks like you've got a proper little rock crawler there. But how does your Buddhist friend live in the wilderness? I'm guessing that there's limited scope for the "begging bowl"…

  2. He's supposed to be coming to Spokane. No place or date set yet. I'm debating about going, LL. I really don't like to be in crowds in today's world. Actually, at 5'2" I've never liked crowds. I get squished between people and feel like I'm suffocating.

  3. During your Trump rally gig, please let us know:
    1. How much garbage is left lying around afterwards.
    2. How many cop car hoods are shat upon.
    3. How many liberal protest signs compare The Donald to Hitler.
    4. How many doobies you see being passed around (or bogarted).

I look forward to your report.

  4. He just took in $500,000.00 by way of a donation. I guess the cyber-begging is working out for him. He's buying land and building stuff.

  5. I'm looking forward to viewing the anti-Trump demonstration. Given that it's Orange County, I don't expect a Chicago-style incident. But I shall report.

  6. Who is Steve McQueen? 😉
Looks like a fun day out. I like fun days out in the middle of nowhere. Can't wait to hear about the Trump Rally and I expect you to get up close and personal. #challengeLarry

  7. Favorite Steve McQueen quote, in 'Papillion,' after he took a puff off of the leper's cigar, and the leper asked him 'how did you know my form of leprosy isn't contagious?' "I didn't."

  8. FJ looking good! It'll look twice as good climbing that slickrock in Utah.

  9. That looks very much like Hell's Revenge…been there more than once. Potato Salad Hill is closed but that was a rough one as was going up Rose Garden Hill (going down much easier).

  10. Well dang he's doing pretty darn good, I need you… as my chief financial officer! I worship cows in the Western form.

  11. Ehjoy your outside time!
Love your FJ, looks a lot more respectable than the two in our family.

Waiting for the report on the rally!

  12. I like cows well enough that I'm willing to eat them. The same goes for many life forms – pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc.

  13. LOL, It is probably wise that you are no comment on the CFO thing, my foundation would challenge anyone…

  14. I tried to get into one of his rallys in Vegas. The ticket meant nothing – just a way for him to get my info. Line was long 2 hours before and the security guard told me I had zero chance of getting in. I just wanted to people watch…good luck!

  15. If you get in to see the Donald, I'd be interested in your take on how charismatic he is. I've never been impressed by celebrity, and I don't have a real feel for people who are charismatic, but I'm interested in his effect on the masses.

  16. I arrived an hour before the gates opened and had a thousand or so people in front of me at my gate but I made it in.

  17. The people who attended the rally were predisposed to a Trump narrative. They are tired of political correctness, of a weak and passive (efite) Obama, of the economic malaise that impacts them and more importantly, their children. They knew his message and they were there to see the man himself and hear it directly from his lips.

  18. Of course I remember Steve McQueen. One of the favorite actors of my age group. Now on to the Trump Thingy.
