Can Men Trust Women?

Internet Influencer Monica Almaguer makes this argument. Can You Ever Trust a Woman? This is a question one of the members in my community asked: This was my reply  –  I will quote Richard Cooper here. You must treat women like loaded guns. “Trust” with women comes about by understanding how we operate and how to handle us. For men who understand, it’s not a problem, but if you are unaware of how to handle women, it can be perilous.

So, trusting a woman depends upon your skills as a man. Understanding what women actually respond to and using those levers appropriately to get a woman and then to keep her.

I get your lack of trust in women. I share it. I have limited friendships with women because of it. And that is because I understand how we work. This is why I don’t hang out with many women, and when I do, it’s with women who are happily married and super into their husbands. Even then, I am diligent.

But understanding women is important even outside of relationships, to effectively deal with all women, including your mother, friends, and aunts. You can choose to opt out of romantic relationships, but you can’t opt out of all relationships. It’s important to understand us.

** (Mail) Scientists at Stanford University have revealed how the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines can cause damage to heart cells. Experts have long sounded the alarm over myocarditis, an extremely rare complication of the vaccine that causes inflammation of the heart muscle. Ship Building in China

As commerce slacks off, Red China doubles down. (h/t Claudio)  China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has signed the largest domestic shipbuilding contract in Chinese history, securing an order for 87 vessels worth approximately RMB 50 billion (USD 7.1 billion) from China COSCO Shipping Corporation.

The agreement, formalized in Shanghai on Monday, marks a significant milestone for both Chinese maritime giants and underscores China’s expanding influence in global shipbuilding.

The deal encompasses a diverse fleet, including ultra-large containerships, large bulk carriers, VLCCs (large crude carriers), grain carriers, multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels, MR tankers, Ro-Pax vessels, and small containerships. Construction will be distributed across six CSSC shipyards: Jiangnan Shipyard, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, Guangzhou Shipyard International, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, and CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding.

A notable aspect of the agreement is its financial structure. Approximately RMB 47 billion of the total contract value will be settled through cross-border Chinese yuan transactions, representing a record for cross-border yuan settlement in the maritime industry. According to CSSC, “The move provides a new model for the diversification of settlement currencies in CSSC Holdings’s trade.”

China COSCO Shipping Corporation, the country’s largest ocean transportation service provider, operates an extensive industrial chain covering container shipping, dry bulk shipping, oil and gas transport, specialized vessels, and passenger shipping. The company’s listed subsidiaries include COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation, which focuses on energy transport, and COSCO Shipping Holdings, which specializes in container shipping.

Despite the contract’s impressive scale, CSSC Holdings cautioned investors about potential execution challenges. The company noted that “due to the long contract execution period and inclusion of intention orders, revenue will be recognized in accordance with accounting standards.” The cooperation is not expected to have a significant impact on current-period profit. However, if the project progresses smoothly, it will have “certain positive effects on the Company’s future revenue and profitability, enhancing medium- to long-term competitiveness”.

The announcement included explicit risk warnings, acknowledging that “given the long execution period and partial intention orders, market dynamics in shipping and shipbuilding may lead to delays or changes in execution.” CSSC emphasized that “this cooperation does not constitute a performance guarantee” and advised investors to “be cautious of investment risks.”

VM blog readers know that I am unabashedly pro-nuclear power generation. I believe that the small nuclear generators are the way of the future. If you want solar panels on your house, I have no problem with that. If it works for you, it works. Systemic power generation for 24/7/365 on demand that an industrial society requires can’t rely on solar and wind generation.

The Trump Department of Energy is preparing to finance up to 10 nuclear power plants in an effort to usher in a nuclear energy “renaissance,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in an exclusive interview with the Washington Free Beacon.

The agency will use its rebranded Office of Energy Dominance Financing to provide low-interest loans for the reactors, Wright said. The financing is designed to provide a “nudge” to an industry that has struggled for decades to get new projects off the ground. Wright’s comments came as he toured the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), a government facility that focuses on cutting-edge nuclear energy research, on Monday.

“We want things built by and risk capital coming from the private marketplace, and most everything we’re doing is dominantly going to be funded by private capital,” Wright told the Free Beacon. “But the government smothered the nuclear industry for 40-plus years. We’ve got to get it back up on its feet again. We are going to use our loan program office at the Department of Energy for credit-worthy hyperscalers that are putting equity capital in front of us,” he continued. “We’re going to back that up with low-interest loans. We’ll supply it to maybe the first 10 reactors that get built. That’ll incentivize people to move fast.”

The Energy Department’s intent to finance new nuclear projects is an extraordinary signal that the Trump administration is serious about deploying a new wave of nuclear reactors. President Donald Trump has identified nuclear as a strategic sector for shoring up both energy and national security. In May, he set a lofty goal of quadrupling the nation’s nuclear capacity over the next decade.

Wright’s comments come a month after the Department of Energy closed on a $1 billion loan for a project to restart the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant partially. That loan, though, will help bring a decades-old plant back online. The future financing Wright teased on Monday will support new projects and new technology.

It could help finance the development of small modular reactors. Traditional reactors typically produce around one gigawatt of electricity—enough to power about a million homes—but are stationary, costly, and must be custom-built for their location. Modular reactors are small enough to be transported, can be assembled in a factory, and can still generate as much as 300 megawatts of electricity, enough to power roughly 300,000 homes.

There are only two operational small modular reactors in the world—one in China and one in Russia. “Maybe the only way to get these projects done is through the loan program,” Rep. Mike Simpson (R., Idaho), who serves on the House Appropriations energy subcommittee and toured the INL alongside Wright, told the Free Beacon. “Because how are you going to find investors that are going to invest long term? These are long-term investments.”

Experts say the expansion of nuclear power—which, unlike wind or solar energy, provides electricity regardless of weather—is vital to ensuring the United States keeps up with skyrocketing power demand driven by artificial intelligence, data centers, manufacturing, and residential use. Wright agrees. “We don’t need a little more energy, we need a lot more energy,” he told the Free Beacon. “We want to get the huge benefits from AI. We want to reshore manufacturing in this country. We want to do things we never dreamed of before. All of those take more energy massively. If you’re serious about better energizing the world, you also should be all in on natural gas and nuclear.”

Wright said the lab he toured—which is home to the first reactor that produced usable electricity via nuclear fission—will be a crucial player in his nuclear “renaissance.” INL’s leaders said they plan to allow private companies to develop projects on site.

The partnership between the government and private developers was on full display during the tour on Monday: The bus transporting the group drove by the site where Silicon Valley startup Oklo, with the enthusiastic support of Trump officials, recently broke ground on its first advanced nuclear reactor. It’s an active construction site and a sign that the administration’s nuclear ambitions may not be far off.

Still, those ambitions must face the reality that just two reactors, both located at the same plant in Georgia, have been licensed and constructed in the 21st century. Those reactors were also completed only after years of delays and billion-dollar cost overruns. Addressing those concerns, Wright said the administration will reform the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The commission, which is responsible for licensing reactors, has slowed development in recent decades, according to Wright. “It became so bureaucratic, so slow, and so difficult that it just killed the economics of new nuclear reactor development,” he said.

The Trump administration seized the Very Large Crude Carrier SKIPPER off the coast of Venezuela, a significant step in combating illicit oil smuggling that funds authoritarian regimes in Iran and Venezuela. The vessel, also known as ADISA, was intercepted following years of monitoring by UANI, which first added the tanker to its so-called “Ghost Armada” list in 2022 for evading American sanctions on Iran. The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned SKIPPER that same year for being part of an illicit oil smuggling network tied to Viktor Artemov, which funded the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah, both designated foreign terrorist organizations.

Should the US begin interdicting ships transporting blacklisted oil in defiance of U.S. sanctions on the high seas? Technically, the US Coast Guard must be the lead agency, but we can place Puddle Pirates on Navy ships. There are thousands of those ships. You’d want to put a prize crew on board, so it might be necessary to ship a prize crew or two on destroyers to take over. You’d also want to comb the ships to make sure there are no skuttling charges onboard.
