Reports that Kamala (The Ho) Harris, with a 45% approval rate among cherry-picked demographics, is more popular than the sadly demented Pedo Joe Biden, is being trotted out as a big win for women and women. If she weren’t promising to allow women to murder their unborn children, Harris would be less popular, which is in itself a statement for feminism.
The Blue Whale
Germany is testing a submarine hunter drone.
BlueWhale is an unmanned submarine from the Israeli company IAI. It has already successfully endured over 2000 hours in the world’s oceans, including the Atlantic, North and Mediterranean Sea, and Indian Ocean.
The 11-meter unmanned submarine weighs about 5.5 tons, making it suitable for use in shallow waters in the Baltic Sea’s coastal waters. The maximum permissible diving depth is about 300 meters.
The BlueWhale has a suite of acoustic and sonar sensors for underwater target acquisition, including a separate towed sonar. The retractable mast is also equipped with optical sensors and radar. Such a system can provide long-term patrolling at sea using active sensors or covert reconnaissance exclusively through passive detection systems.

The UK Submarine Dilemma
(h/t Claudio) (link) A recent paper by the Council on Geostrategy suggested that the RN should buy at least one Dreadnought-class submarine reconfigured as an SSGN to launch conventionally armed missiles. Here, we consider this proposal and other options for increasing the strength of the submarine force. It should be acknowledged that any discussion about expanding submarine strength might seem disconnected from reality when the RN has struggled to field any SSNs in recent months. Putting this elephant aside as a temporary affliction, the longer-term strategic view is that the undersea battle will be increasingly essential, and submarines will exert ever more significant influence on naval warfare than they do already. With the £30Bn+ Dreadnought program in full swing and the commitment to SSN-AUKUS, it could also be argued that large investments are already in play. The Geostrategy paper does, however, raise an important point about whether further submarine procurement might deliver force-multiplier results disproportionate to the cost.
Another way of looking at it is whether Great Britain should spend its military budget on gender affirmation instead of national defense. Pack the military in and keep a small ceremonial guard to troop the color once a year and guard KC3 in his palace. They can’t crew the ships they have. Why build more?

How many hours in the Mexico to Texas and Cuba to Florida international shipping routes?
I used to know a lot more about the cartel drug “subs” than I do now because of what I did (not on the cartel side). There are different classifications. The most commonly used were not submarines in the classic sense but surface skimmers/low observability craft that used air-breathing engines without the use of a snorkel. At one point, they got their hands on a Russian-made Project 865 Piranha. On paper, the Russians transferred it to the reserve fleet. In reality, an admiral sold it out the back door to Mexican cartel types who used it to make the short run from Pacific Mexican waters, along Baja to American territory where it disgorged its cargo of cocaine that was picked up by pangas (smaller open boats) for the most part and run to shore. The cartels hired Russian former navy types to run the boat. They had difficulty getting spare parts for it, and while it made several successful runs, the cartel types decided to replace the Russian crew with Mexicans to save money. The money-saving activity didn’t quite go to plan, and they ended up dropping it in about 100′ of water (not scuttling it) with the atmosphere in the boat until they could get the parts they needed from Russia to fix it. I don’t know that they were ever able to do that.

Regarding the balance sheet, it cost them more to acquire and operate than it was worth. This was about a decade ago. Since then, the technology to operate drone submarines has improved, but the more advanced systems are still a challenge for cartels to operate at a profit. Tunnels across the border, payments to corrupt US officials, and inexpensive sea skimmers are still more profitable.

Sure, Chinese fentanyl still makes it across the US Border to consumers, but there are other profit centers that narcotics organizations can exploit. High-value illegal aliens (Middle Easterners and Chinese) are still moved by tunnel.
The Cartels have also been working on plastic hulled actual submersibles. Made out of UHMW industrial plastic piping. They could, and may already, work.
