It’s over. Pack up the tree or haul it to the landfill, put the ornaments in boxes, toss the tinsel, and don’t leave the Christmas lights up all year. This has been a public service announcement from Virtual Mirage. Once your work is complete, you can sleep it off.

Today is the first day of Kwanzaa. Happy Kwanzaa to those of you who hold the ancient traditions from the 1970s, dear.

One of the Republican Party’s rising stars, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, called Kwanzaa “a fake religion created by a sociopath. Greene has a talent for calling a spade a spade.

** Pres. Trump hasn’t been convicted of anything, but a cabal of democrat judges decided due process is irrelevant, so they deny voters the chance to exercise their franchise in the name of saving democracy! But that can cut both ways. Indeed, “Joe Biden” is guilty of treachery on many levels. It doesn’t matter if it’s been adjudicated; the say-so of Republican AGs is the only bar that is required to be cleared, or at least that seems to be the new rule. So sure, remove Biden from the ballot in Texas, Florida, and elsewhere? Why not?

It will never happen, of course, because Marxist fascists do not run the GOP like the Democrat party is, but it is a useful ploy to point out that lawfare is a two-way street.

** I’m not bragging or anything, but I never went to Harvard or Yale.

** In my travels in Arizona, I recently ran into a recently arrived Sikh named Singh wearing a cowboy hat and kind of a cowboy outfit. It didn’t look any better than if I went to Punjabi country in India or Pakistan and tried to pass myself off with a turban, kurtah, and cotton trousers covered by a long hanging (coat) choghah. I mentioned it to him, which may have wounded him since he thought he blended in as a “buckaroo.” I know that Sikhs don’t worship cows. They eat them. I don’t know if he ranched back home.

** I thought that this was a spoof but apparently it’s a new release. I doubt that I’ll part with any of my valuable time or money to view it.

It’s incredibly racist, but I’m sure that you’ve already figured that out.

** Have you ever visited the Paria Town Site … home of The Outlaw Josey Wales? It’s east of Kanab, Utah, off HWY 89, not far north of the Arizona border. I visited the movie set years ago, but at some point person or persons unknown burned it down. I’ve been there a few times over the years. The Paria River is full of quicksand. Once, I pulled a Landrover (with California plates) out of it and pointed to the semi-submerged and unrecovered Jeep buried deep in the sand. I pointed to the Jeep…” oh.”

Early pioneers settled there, and the local tribes kept shooting arrows into them. Eventually, they figured out that it was sacred land. Today, it’s an interesting place to visit. It’s beautiful. You can see why it was considered sacred. It’s one of many interesting places to stop for a bit in the desert Southwest.

  1. Not sure, my wife and I have been to Zion National Park and Glen Rock Canyon plus we stayed with friends in Prescott for a while one trip with a lot of day trips. So have definitely been close to Kanab.

  4. Rep. MTG is unafraid and doesn’t give a rats patootee what others think. Love it. There’s so much propaganda spewed in all outlets and by all sorts that discernment becomes nearly impossible…except…as you suggest…turning it off (save for here at VM of course). That Rogan deal is only one@ example, yet the “purveyors of spout-age” seem undeterred. Stop listening and watching to marginalize their hold is the only way.

    Yellowstone- Have only watched a few snippets here and there but that one was epic!. (“Llamas”…geez.) The dude (and he is a “dude”, only with money) was lucky the cattle guard was new, around here enough have filled in over the years…wouldn’t end too well.

    Today is start the process of refilling the bins…original prognostication was decent temps and sun, 17 degrees and blasting wind…colder than a witches broomstick, so some plowing to clear the drifts and mostly inside work (it’s good to be the king (small ‘k’), no need to be out in insane weather for longer than necessary, especially at this pay.

    1. Not much else to do but party when the ocean is mean, the weather is bad, the wind blowing like crazy and it’s just too damned cold to get farther than 20′ from a fire while inside.

    I was very impressed.

    2. She’s in Argentina. The multiple posters that nobody noticed behind her were advertisements for an open-air concert called “PACHA Buenos Aires”. The date of the concert was November 25, 2023.
      There’s also an old poster of candidate Diputado (Deputy). That follows because Argentina recently had national elections.

  9. The tree I have lights on out in the yard stays up until the end of next week. Just looks nice coming down the road to see the tree all lit up at night…at 1630. Sigh, at least the days are getting longer now.

    SR 71, we have to take care of our heritage. About 15 years ago saw the SR at the U..S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, the tires on one of the rear landing gear were both flat and the plane had a distinct list to starboard. Paint was all ratty and the USAF markings were almost unrecognizable, just sad that such a proud bird was not taken care of. Hopefully it is in better nick now.

    Propaganda. Watch it enough to note so I am aware but don’t believe anything anymore without independent multiple verifications. So much for truth. Had an”interesting” talk with my grandson last night after Christmas dinner about Hamas. He was spouting all sorts of stuff that he had heard in school. He is a smart kid so I told him we could continue the conversation after he had read the original 1988 Hamas charter and found out what the Romans called the area 2,000 years ago.

    All I can say is VDH is 1000% correct every single time, not only is he brilliant but also because he truly knows and understands history. Nothing new under the sun is correct, generations tend to rinse and repeat mistakes, never learning (or simply ignoring because these things are a means to an end).

    We are being purposely invaded to steal and/or nullify the 2024 election in 11 months. Now with Colorado superseding federal anything and everything including criminal laws and rulings (or lack thereof) is appalling enough. But Colorado Dems are clearly working in conjunction with this rogue administration to flagrantly violate immigration laws in order to seed states who will grant these “asylum seeking” sojourners voter cards, hence the flights all over dropping illegals everywhere on our nickel. This is their play.

    In Our Founders day all of the architects of this operation would be shot at dawn for treason or sedition…excising the cancer. Nowadays they (mostly Democrats) get away scot-free, seemingly untouchable because people prefer to avoid another civil war.

  18. Christmas ornaments and trees need to stay up until the Epiphany, you friggin pagan!

    Seriously, though, it’s 12 days of Christmas. The 4 weeks before, Advent, also known as Pre-Christmas, are just that, pre Christmas.

    Traditionally, the Christmas tree was put up and decorated on Christmas Eve (or maybe one day before) and then taken down on the Epiphany (or one day after.)

    Before the family got an artificial tree in 1970, Dad would pack up the family and we’d go harvest a live one 2-3 days before the 24th. And hang it upside down to shake out all the dead stuff and bird stuff. Then decorate it on Christmas Eve after dinner, then off to Midnight Mass, then to bed then Christmas Morn! Then taking the tree down after the Epiphany. Dad was very traditional. Even with the advent of the artificial tree, we didn’t put it up until the end of the first week of Advent.

    1. Dads are important fro setting precedent. Mine was the same as yours…once the program was set for things like this it never changed until circumstances required adjustments.

      1. There is a reason for ‘tradition’ and ‘customs’ and ‘manners,’ things sorely lacking in this modern world.

        I guess I was just tainted, growing up on military bases and then around lots of active military and retired military. Common curtesy, manners, traditions, customs, all were notably 20-40 years behind the times.

        Things like bringing food and other common gifts to the new neighbors. Helping out everyone, especially the sick or the family on the block that is having momentary troubles. Not playing one’s damned music so damned loud unless it’s at a party on the weekend, and even then, not nasty filthy music (but things like Tijuana Brass? that’s good stuff.) Watching everyone’s kids when they’re outside, even if you don’t have kids. Parents and adults always on quiet overwatch, older kids looking out for younger kids.

        Some of it I can blame on the wonders of modern medicine. Something about the terror of parents knowing 1 in 4 children won’t live to adulthood if one is lucky, due to various diseases and pestilences, poor food, poor water, bad weather and all. I grew up with parents who knew fellow kids who died of TB or had polio or had parents or grandparents who lost family from diphtheria or cholera or some other disease. Hell, I lost an older sister from a birth defect that is now discoverable and repairable in utero. She died on Holy Innocents’ Day before I was born. No wonder Dad got quiet after Christmas.

        People these days have it so damned easy. They don’t understand the reasons why citrus used to be a big gift at Christmastime. Because they can walk into, hell, a friggin gas station and buy bananas and oranges year round that are fresh. Remember “Fruit of the Month Club”? Remember grocery stores having seasonal fruits only? Strawberries out of season were for the rich, because they were grown in hothouses. Same with other things. Apples began to get wormy and shrinky by summer, but new ones came around in autumn.

        Like fruitcake. The lowly fruitcake. Why fruitcake, made with candied fruit, nuts and soaked in alcohol? Because it was the only way to preserve seasonal fruit all year long. Make fruitcakes and eat them throughout the winter until fresh fruit comes in. Oh, yeah, winter, the killing season for lung infections. But spring and summer were the killing seasons for malnutrition (no big crops) unless one could hunt, gather, fish.

        Lots of reasons for traditions. Dark reasons, often, as the traditions cover surviving dark times, killing times, fever times.

        Just look at fresh evergreen and pine boughs in the house. One of the reasons is the branches keep alive for a while and filter out the poisons and toxins and mold spores that are trapped in a house that’s first shut down for winter (molds spring from all the moisture in the air from all the people in the houses.) So, yeah, greens to brighten up a bland frozen world, but also there to cleanse the air. Traditions that allow people to survive and thrive in a dangerous dark world.

          1. Thanks. In all my history research these points are really never consolidated or written down, almost like it’s assumed that the reader already knows The Truth.

            Which is why I love “Connections” as the books and series did that, piled explanation upon the interactions of seemingly unconnected things that were very connected.

          1. There is a significant hardship to subsistence-level living that the inner city doesn’t appreciate: no dope, no television, no food, no potable water, etc.

          2. As we see in life-threatening/emergency situations, the 1st World Bravo Sierra falls away in two heartbeats…not important when one’s life is on the line.

          3. Inner city subsistence living means being able to live off the refuse of the society at large. Being in a culture so rich that you can literally live off the garbage of others is a little different than living a life where every action you take has to account for now, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and if you have a family, next decade.

          4. I laughingly love to watch all the homesteader shows on tv and see people totally unprepared for living the homestead life. Lot of them have multiple piercings, dreadlocks and moldylocks, tattoos out the wazoodle (and probably on the wazoodle and wazoodlette) and… if they only spent one or two weekends reading Readers’ Digest’s “Back to Basics” they wouldn’t have half the issues they have.

            Like the aforementioned dreadlocks. There’s a reason Norman warriors, most people during and after the American Civil War and military regulations from the ACW on required short head hair. It’s for the hygiene thing. Face whiskers were fine until the need for gas masks and really good seals of said gas masks, as beards and mustaches were/are relatively easy to keep clean. But head hair? Lice, fleas, serious body funk and rot are too easy to start there.

            It’s like all the ‘lost’ diseases that were rediscovered during the Hippie Era, diseases and issues that were called by their descriptor names, like fuzzy red armpits, all returned because hippies went unwashed especially after sex or hard work (usually to get their stoner vehicle out of a ditch or like ‘work.’)

            Or those yahoos who would get on the survivalist/prepper shows. Silly idiots, nobody who’s a real survivalist/prepper lets other people know the status of their preps.

            And living an austere ‘off-grid’ life is a difficult one. For both sexes. The man will be doing all the hard heavy labor while the woman will be doing the gardening and cooking and cleaning and sewing and washing and taking care of the house and the man because without the man, she’s gonna be a dead woman, or a slave, or both.

            The coming Dark Ages scares the crap out of me. Good thing I won’t survive it.
