A Pillar of Salt

The story of Lot’s wife begins in Genesis 19 after two angels arrived in Sodom at Eventide and were invited to spend the night at Lot’s home. The men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and demanded on pain of death that Lot offer up these men/angels; instead, Lot offered up his two daughters but they were refused. The homosexuals of Sodom had no use for women.

As dawn was breaking, Lot’s visiting angels urged him to flee with his family, so as to avoid being caught in the impending disaster for the iniquity of the city. The command was given, “Flee for your life! Do not look behind you, nor stop anywhere in the Plain; flee to the hills, lest you be swept away.” While fleeing, Lot’s wife looked behind her at Sodom and was turned into a pillar of salt.

Lot’s wife,  Edith (named in Jewish traditions), looked back with a sense of longing for what she left behind. Lot’s wife was mentioned by Jesus in Luke 17:32 in the context of warning his disciples about difficult times in the future when the Son of Man would return; he told them to remember Lot’s wife as a warning to not waver.

Bullet Points:

** I remember watching an episode of The Americans where an extended version of Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk played during a chase scene. Here is the piece from the Sound Track:

Name the Tank

Too Much “Love”?

Love bombing is not a euphemism for “too much affection too soon,” or “high desire for contact.”

“Love bombing” is a term originally used in the context of cults to describe a deliberate and coordinated recruitment method that involved feigning friendship and interest in a potential recruit, via flattery, flirtation, physical affection, and very directed positive attention to everything the recruit says in order to lure them into the cult.

Since cults and abusive relationships operate in similar ways and use similar tactics, love bombing in an interpersonal relationship looks like manufacturing closeness in order to trap someone into a relationship in which the abuser has all the control.

And I know these days there are a million bullshit junky articles out there that make you think this is a symptom of cluster b personality disorders, but there is no way for you to be love-bombing somebody without realizing it.

Love bombing is about using someone’s desire for human connection to fast-track them into a situation you control and will feel disinclined to leave.

  1. Had an AF captain that worked for me that didn’t recognize the significance of a road named Bong Ave or a building named Bud Day. Good meaning guy, after I explained the significance of both he said neither were covered in the AF history he had to go through in ROTC and then spent some time with some books on AF history I happened to have.
If we don’t continually study history we will be doomed.

So what the collective Left is doing, especially in regards to what used to be a border, is a form of Love Bombing?

    1. Back in early 2000, my reserve unit was tasked with providing a day of security instruction to the CAARNG aviation unit at Mather Field, CA. While perusing the area map, I noticed a short street about a block away from where we would be. Femoyer Street.

My dad was assigned as a pilot to 711 squadron in November of 1944. I printed out copies of an article similar to the one above and handed them out at the end of the day.

      1. I have a book, “Medal of Honor” third edition, that lists the recipient and what they did to deserve the Medal up to about 2009 or so. Despite my 28years in the AF the book makes me feel like a real lightweight when I read about what these men accomplished and against such tremendous odds.

        1. If you’re ever near Camp Perry in NW Ohio, stop in. All the ranges are named for Medal winners, and the citations are writ large on bronze plaques at the range gates. Then stop by CMP headquarters and inspect the Stuart tank on display and read the memorial plaque to the Ohio NG outfit that took their Stuarts to the Philippines shortly before the Japanese invaded, and just flat-out got swallered whole. Few of them survived, very sobering.

  2. Ah, Lott. The richest man in the Bible at the time. Why? Price of salt, especially if his wife was previously on the chunky side.

The Bong photo was way too easy.

As to the Sherman, what, the US Army was experimenting with vehicle mounted HAARP equipment back then? But, seriously, looks like something the Brits thought up, especially with that center-hull mounted MG instead of the MG mounted in the normal right-hand hull mount.

But then I looked closer. And then closer still. You know what the horizontal rods and the thing that looks like an MG really look like? Spigot Mortar launchers. Which would bring it right back into the ‘Could be a Brit modification or something the US played with.’

The hull is an interesting one. It has the welded panels over the ammo storage and what looks like either provisions for add-on stuff on the front or a bolted front plate over the transmission area.

    That’s a stumper.

Spigot mortar, so some weird engineering/assault vehicle modification. Weird.

      1. See? Spigot mortars so some weird engineering/assault vehicle mod. I was right.

  3. “Love Bombing”, “Ghosting”, ‘Gender Neutral”…all these goofball terms, hard to keep up.

Few – save for the “more seasoned” guard – don’t actually speak with other people, texting is not proper communication, neither is Zoom…those are comm tools.

    1. I remember love bombing associated withe the Childr4n of God cult. The girls were encouraged to sleep with guys to bring them in.
I remember them big time in Germany. Hooked friends of mine)
