They lose jobs, they lose income stability, and increases based on having to compete with illegal aliens (who work for much lower wages) for the same economic niches. Illegal immigrants from the impoverished classes of other countries compete with Americans in the lower economic echelons for jobs, driving down wages and opportunities. This betrayal of Americans in favor of foreigners is as unforgivable as it is damaging.

** Mission to Psyche – This asteroid, 16 Psyche, is located about 280 million miles away, and if you could pull it down to Earth, you’d have $10,000 quadrillion worth of nickel on your hands (ignoring the fact that the sudden increase in supply would cause the metal’s value to plummet).
** Maui Fire Aftermath – The fire from a couple of weeks ago has already been designated as the deadliest fire in the U.S. in over a century with well over 100 lives confirmed lost and it has triggered intense criticism of President Joe Biden over his lack of response to the tragedy.
** Yet another Russian failure (h/t Claudio) This is a stunning loss for the Russian space program given that it is the country’s first attempt to return to the Moon since a 1976 robotic mission by the Soviet Union. Craig Robertson, a Utah man, was shot and killed during an FBI raid last Wednesday morning. The FBI claims he made posts on social media threatening Joe Biden. Fake News reports that the investigation began in April and the U.S. Secret Service was notified by the FBI in June: “In addition to threatening posts the man under investigation suggested online he was making plans to take physical action. The threats had been deemed credible.”
Among the posts allegedly made by Robertson was one published on Aug. 6, three days before Biden’s scheduled visit, according to the complaint. “I hear Biden is coming to Utah. Digging out my old ghillie suit and cleaning the dust off the M24 sniper rifle,” the post said, according to the complaint, which referred to the post as a “willful true threat to kill or cause injury to kill President Biden.”

Thing is, a Bob Semple is better than no AFV at all. Remember, this was made at a time that tankettes (either casement like the little Polish tankettes or mini-tanks like the Mk IVs) and open-topped gun carriers were a viable threat against infantry.
Even today, an uparmored technical or self-armored SUV is a doable and useful thing, against troops without anti-armor weapons.
If it gets the guns up to where the enemy are, or can protect an area as the enemy comes, it’s useful.
And the design is no worse than many WWI AFVs. Or no worse than some actual armor designs at the start of WWII.
Against a Sherman, or a T-34, or a Pzkfz II, even a I, yeah, it is laughable. But…
Look at a lot of stop-gap armor designs during WWII. A lot of the SPGs produced by the Germans using any tracked armored chassis, or a lot of the SPGs produced by the USSR based on agricultural tractors.
Then there are some of the up-armored monstrosities that England produced during the invasion scare period after they lost all their precious armor in France and especially at Dunkirk. The English produced their own ‘Bob Semples’ based on ag tractors, up-armored lorries, cut-down double-decker busses. If it had wheels and wasn’t required Right-NOW!!! for other needs, the Brits slapped ‘armor’ (usually boiler or ship hull scrap) and whatever type of gun they could get on the bloody things.
But England used the ‘Bob Semple’ to make fun of those darned prisoner-colonialists down in Australia.

Being a Trump supporter would seem to be enough to send in the FBI’s “Hostage Rescue Team” to execute the crippled old man. By all accounts, all they did to the blind son is beat him up and cuff him. No kill shot behind the ear. How merciful is our Federal Government?
Why didn’t the FBI get people from the church he attended to go with them and speak with Craig Robertson (suspect) and invite him to come out and speak with the FBI, who had a search warrant? The guy attended church every week and held a position in the local congregation. They knew that he had an axe to grind with the government and if they kicked his door and flash-banged him that he’d pick up a handgun to defend himself. It was a scenario in which they figured to kill him. He wasn’t black, so no backlash.
Of course they wanted to kill him. To make an example for us all. They chose an easy target, hit him at a time they knew he was not running 100%, and set up the whole thing as an example to us little people.
Same thing with the arrests and raids on all the Trump supporters and Trump himself.

Jess, many years ago, while wearing a badge, they’d send us to homes of letter writers like this. We’d knock on the door and talk to them and hear their grievances after talking to the neighbors, etc. While there we would take note and mentally map the place, later committed to a report in the event that we had to return. I must have done it fifty times or more. Usually, I went with a female officer. Sometimes people had real grievances. Sometimes there was a referral to Social Services/Mental health. Often they just wanted to be heard. Peace Officers are there to keep the peace. The neighbors often had a lot to say. On one or two occasions we went with a minister/priest who also had background information. In other situations, we went with a sibling or somebody else they knew.
Given my history of running and gunning in the military, in those days, I was very alert and capable. We didn’t walk into a “critical” situation because we worked to make it not critical.
The FBI made a dynamic entry and murdered him.

Turns out going to Urgent Care this morning was a wise decision. They drew a bunch of blood, and did an ECG. The ECG came back with some Abnormal findings. That, along with the blood test results, was enough for the Urgent Care Doctor to give us our marching orders to report *Immediately* to the ER, and I was admitted. So tomorrow I have a cardiac ultrasound in the morning, and possibly a Cardiac Catheterization, formally called an Angioplasty. So depending on the outcome I’ll either be discharged tomorrow afternoon, or the next day.
I’ll post more tomorrow, if able.
I feel bad. I’ve been traveling and I didn’t know that my friend DRJIM was still in the hospital.

Maui: What a mess that fire turned out to be. There is plenty of news chatter about how it started, how the response went and how great FEMA and Governor Green’s response has been. On the other side of the spectrum is Eric West, Hawaii Real Estate, posting unedited stories with survivors on YouTube.
Apparently, the hazard mitigation plan wasn’t known or used by the government players and that caused plenty of problems during the evacuation phase and probably caused the high mortality/missing count. In one video he and a friend are trying to take supplies to an elderly couple still living inside the fenced in area. Not one of the Hawaii guardsmen knew who to talk with (think commander or incident command center) to allow delivery of the supplies. The FEMA headquarters isn’t set up in a visible area with the incident command center so everyone knows where to go. Apparently, no one there knows how to take charge and move out.
What a mess.
The Hawaiians have “their own way of doing things” or so I have been told many times. That means, “LL keep your opinions to yourself.” I realize that there is a federal response and don’t want to be critical (no, I really don’t) because I’m not there. However, my experience is that the worker bees are willing but the queen bees are confused.
They are like the island people in the Carribean. Concept of time and building codes are non-existent.
There’s something about living someplace where you can basically live off the land even if you’re lazy that makes people stupid.

I knew a couple people during the early Obamski years that had plans for their own versions of Bob Semples. One even had stacks of armor plate already cut and drilled for uparmoring one of his dump trucks. Another had already uparmored and upgraded a bank armored car.
Back when I was reading the Skoolie threads (people buying school buses and fixing them up as mobile homes) there was one guy who wanted to uparmor his 40′ bus. Me being the geek I am I told him to check out UHMW plastic panels. Do them from the floorboard up to the bottom of the window line, permanently bolted in place. Have more panels either hinged from the roof or hinged to swing up to cover the windows. It was a viable design, especially once he lined the engine compartment with kevlar and UHMW. Though a radiator hit would take it out, it was proof against AK47 and some 5.56 rounds.

I think it’s worth more as an building material in the location it’s already at, where you didn’t have to carry it up with rockets. Old SF books used to say spin a nickle-iron asteroid in concentrated sunlight, blow it into a metal bubble with steam pressure from water inside, then live in it. Maybe carve off a small chunk and try with that first? That’s going to be one long electrical extension cord to power it responsibly with windmills from Earth.
It would make an excellent bunker if you could figure out how to feed yourself and entertain yourself in the bunker.
