The two holes in the stock are a place to put the take down pins while out in the field.The wood section or said stock is from a first gen.G3 which has two pins. The front takedown pin is smaller in diameter so that one goes in the hole kindly provided in the front sling hook. Very efficient those Germans.
They then have the same function as the holes in the later plastic composite stocks. Makes sense.

They were certain(!) they had put put enough aside; they were certain(!) they had invested wisely enough (gold/stocks, bonds, real estate, etc); they neither scrimped nor frittered. What happened?
Not even the Oracles at Delphi could have predicted the extreme diminution of the dollar; the current cost of a loaf of bread.

My parents died a while back, while more than solvent. I did not see a penny. Their spouses did.
My FIL is 92 and we are helping him with getting him an apartment (can no longer drive, sold the farm) and transportation.

My situation was/is somewhat unconventional. I have a sister/BIL who moved in with my mother to take care of her. She was going to move in with them but they worked it out differently. Given that I didn’t live with my mother past age 2 yrs, it fell to my sister, who she raised. The rest are dead. Wife’s mother has a husband and wife didn’t live with her either. If I shuffle off, wife will have enough and won’t need to scrounge unless she marries a fancy man and he spends it. That will be on her.
