The financial loss in general could be enormous – real-estate values are estimated to have fallen by $800 billion across Beijing, Houston, London, New York City, Paris, Munich, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

This is potentially a huge blow to large and politically connected investment funds, including Blackstone, which is now the world’s leading backer of office space.

And things could get much worse – the Atlantic reports that $1.5 trillion in commercial property loans is due for repayment by 2025.

  2. Responded to a devastating grass fire in and around Medicine Lodge Kansas, with a local task force of fire trucks from several local departments. It became increasingly clear that even though the fire was mostly over by the end of day two, that the paid government hacks weren’t going to allow the fact that the emergency had passed get in the way of them milking the situation until the money ran out. We went to help the people impacted, not the task force leaders. Our department received a very nice thank you note from a very gracious lady who had lost everything.

    When I see FEMA people taking advantage of somebody else’s disaster it makes my blood boil!

    1. You wake up to a champagne brunch, get a massage, swim in the ocean, and maybe take a drive into Lahaina to be seen before you get back to the hotel for lunch, a nap, then the luau.

    2. Have probably mentioned this before – major tornado strike in Nebraska, and the congregation I was part of was a distribution node for a private disaster relief effort. The fed organizer was flown in, and had the National Guard unit block the main road into the area while she “assessed the situation”. Our initial semi load was turned away and came back. We loaded the supplies into cars, vans, and pickups and took back roads into the area. Worked well enough we did the same with the follow-up supplies as well. The people there needed the food, water, and clean clothes !!!NOW!!!. Note: after going through a tornado spin cycle clothes have all sorts of unhealthy additions, so clean clothes become important.

      1. Years ago when I lived in Alabama I belonged to the SBA’s Disaster Relief Work crews and went to disasters in some cases the next day to help people get trees off of their homes and blocking roads and get mud and debris out of their homes and businesses and do any repair to minimize further damage. Our biggest problem was three days to a week after was Red Cross and Fema would finally roll in like the bullies they actually are. We were by design to be self sufficient for four days and we had all the equipment and fuel to get the job done. They would start issuing “orders” for us to do this or do that and we would ignore them. Many of times a homeowner would run the representatives of their property or block by shotgun…One of the tactics those organization would use is to say we (SBA) would bill them after for exorbitant fees. We never charged them.

        1. I don’t think that FEMA is inherently evil. However, there shouldn’t be situations when anyone feels it necessary to run the feds off their land at gunpoint. I know that people feel that way sometimes and FEMA should ask themselves why that is. I doubt that there’s much introspection on their part.

          They do arrive with resources that can be lifesaving or that can relieve suffering. That’s a good thing. They can also be very political and that’s a bad thing.

        2. When Ivan hit Alabama, one of my buddies lived in a small town near the coast. A massive amount of downed trees blocked all the roads into and out of his town prohibiting folks from just pulling stakes and going to visit relatives for a bit. He said the first sign of outside help came on day two or three when the SBC crews showed up with pickups, generators and chain saws. They also brought a Salvation Army portable kitchen and cooks. It was a long time after the basic clean up was accomplished before anyone in town saw Federal or State agencies.

          Another buddy was an Alabama ANG pilot. The TV showed helicopters flying around with big red crosses on the door and the news commentators saying, “We see the Red Cross helicopters, but where is the Alabama NG?” The pilots were amazed at how ignorant the talking heads were and laughed because they were the ones flying the medivac helicopters.

          1. I’ve been at several places where the Red Cross showed up. In each case there were no actual Red Cross people, but they subcontracted. I have no idea what’s going on at Lahaina beyond news broadcasts. There have been reports of charitable NGOs on the ground, mainly church groups who the media tend to ignore. It’s a big mess and by all accounts, FEDGOV is more in the way than helpful.

          2. All of these anecdotes prove the axiom Communities need to rely on themselves first and foremost, waiting for outside help (while always/usually appreciated) is a mistake. Well done gentlemen.

        3. My Dad hated the Red Cross. They’d stage photos of some poor GI or SeaBee taking a big swig of a frosty Coca Cola, and then take the bottle back!, saying it was “they only one they had”, or some such other nonsense.

  3. The Ames monument is a lot bigger in person. Is FEMA Maui Stong? (Too soon?) Biden at least is getting some good rest on hos Hawaii vacation. CNN said he hit all the right notes in his comments. Obama nowhere to be seen or heard. Is his third mansion safe?

    Ames Monument…up the road about ten minutes and off the beaten path. Railroad related. To be wrecked as the modern crop of feckless County Commissioners don’t give a rip about history, actual taxpaying residents, or the environment, they operate for those sending cash their way.

    Ames Monument will now be overshadowed by “green/renewable/sustainable/free energy” destructive wind turbines. Albany County (Laramie) Commissioners heard a sustained massive opposition outcry…but…of course…approved the application anyway. These a–hats had to have been bought by the grifter Texas outfit, ConnectGen (spit!spit!), who is slated to construct 120 massive off shore (650′-700′ tall) turbines (with requisite land wrecking facilities) that will surround the monument and across 126,000 acres. Yeah, that’s green…as it destroys the environment. County believes they will get a huge revenue windfall. Morons don’t realize (despite being told as much) they just bought into a swamp timeshare with no exit clause.

    Hasn’t started construction yet, but every expensive appeal, all the way up to the State Supreme Court, have failed (wink, wink). Greenie Scumbags (just read Grisham’s The Appeal…same crap). Three years of worry for rural residents…but “we” have managed to delay the project start to maybe…just maybe…the cost overruns will stop the idiocy. Funny tho, when The Mostly Dead Prince got installed as _Resident, ConnGen went full court press because they were getting paid by the Federal Gov’t to install this mess in “deplorable flyover” country. They believe “no one lives here and wouldn’t care”.

    They miscalculated…many rural folks have heavy equipment…”Killdozer” was only one machine. And this is Wyoming yer talkin’ about.

And they demanded Curt Richardson (Otterbox founder who bought the AX, Double X) he maintain the roads (including Hermosa, a county road) for maintenance crew access in the Winter as if they have a right to make such demands. He told them to pound sand. Never ends with these people.

        Also, like failed Socialism the Left loves to trot out as never been tried correctly their turbines won’t catch fire or freeze. Uh huh.

  6. A footnote on overbearing and arrogant government functionaries.
    Glenwood Springs, CO 6/8/2002, what has been labeled as the Coal Seam Fire started when underground coal seam on fire came to the surface. A contractor in the area came to the site and stated he had five bulldozer nearby and could quickly smother the fire. The ‘official’ on site turned him down saying, “Let the professionals handle it”.

    Make what you will of this but the only part of Glenwood that burned was a Northwest corner mainly occupied by a mobile home park after the fire jumped the Colorado River.

    1. Yup. Asking or waiting on “officials” is a mistake. Best to get it done then when confronted tell them to go pound sand. These people can’t think normal, yet they believe they own everything and We The People are to ask them permission to put up a loafing shed or dig a trench or fix a problem.

      Have a Park Ranger nearby, a guy who’d give you a ticket for accidentally stepping on a “protected plant” while out on some trail. His place – to be polite and not judging as we can never know peoples struggles – is a mess (used to be nice). Doesn’t scan for me.

      1. I do work in your area (unless located on a private road). Usually the trashy places have locked gates and no trespassing signs. What the lien holders make of my reports and photo documentation (all from public roads) I can’t say. My speculation is that making a decision to foreclose is made easier if the property is an eyesore.

        I no longer do foreclosure work. I’m too old to go hands on with fools.

        1. I think that decision is sound. If you had a HULK dog instead of a Banner dog it might have been safer, but it’s not wonderful work.

          1. And in this day could be rather dangerous. I used to say it’s hard to get a mortgage when staring out, but easy to keep it…obviously excluding extenuating circumstances. To repeat my mother: “You don’t have to live poorly even if poor.”

    Neither would provide a fresh revelation.
    Yet the fresh revelation was the ratio of Tucker to Fox viewers.

    1. Who wants to watch Mike Pense and Nikki Hailey measure dicks? Full disclosure, I watched the Republican debate for about ten minutes and turned it off. The Trump interview is as posted here. He was Trump, Tucker was Tucker and you didn’t miss anything. As you point out 150 million to 13 million puckers the Uniparty and makes them double down on anything that will imprison President Trump no matter the legality.

      1. I read an interesting comment on some hate-think site. The gist was “Come 2024 when Trump is re-elected President, they’ll admit the 2020 election was fraudulent and that DJT was in fact elected President. Then they’ll invoke the 22nd Amendment.”

        While this is exactly the sort of definition-torturing and logic-chopping deliberate misinterpretation of Law that The Best People favor, it seems too complex to sell to the general public. But it’s an interesting idea.

    1. I think that one should exercise one’s right to vote. It’s a lot like blogging. Should we blog? I think that we should if only to bring a whisper to the world that there is a differing opinion.

      If the democrats keep counting the votes, Pedo Joe could be the people’s choice long after he’s dead, buried and in Hell.

    I’ve been near the Ames monument, but didn’t know it, or I would have gone by it.

    I was at the Lab getting a blood draw yesterday, and there was a very attractive young woman (18~20 y.o.) who had a mask on. I looked, shtugged, and went on with my wiat. An elderly woman began questioning the young lady about WHY she had a mask on. it was wonderful to see the young lady agree with the elderly woman on 100% of her points. So why did she still have a mask on?

    “My Mom makes me wear it. *I* think they’re stupid”.

    Well done, both of you.

    I will NOT submit to another manufactured “crisis” or “emergency” designed to do nothing but control us.
