Bullet Points:

** True humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less. – Lewis

** “Israel does not perceive Iran to be an imminent threat so long as no one is ‘dumb enough’ to send these homicidal maniacs any money or other resources to attack us,” offered Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari before hearing that the US had sent Iran $6 billion.

** (Zerohedge) “In the UK, running an electric vehicle now costs up to twice as much per mile as running a gas-powered car. Rapid charging costs for EVs have risen 5% over the past year despite falling electricity and oil prices. The high cost of EV charging is dampening enthusiasm for electric cars and slowing their adoption in the UK.”

** October 3 is Jules Smith Day on VM – As most of you know, my dear friend and writing partner, Juliette, co-wrote books with me. One of those is Red Mist.

** Cultural Differences: The US Navy descended almost directly from the British Navy and is hugely class-conscious. Officers and enlisted don’t mix. Officers speak to chiefs, and chiefs direct the men. (Marines are present to protect the officers on the quarterback from sailors with muskets and bayonets.) There aren’t just two different messes; there are three — officers, senior enlisted and junior enlisted. This is not the case on SEAL Teams or with aircrews, but it is traditional in the US Navy. The proto-Germans (Prussians) and the French heavily influenced the US Army. It was much more egalitarian than the Navy but still conscious of rank. They eat together in the field; there is only one mess hall, though they may be at separate tables. There was only one mess hall in Iraq—generals and Privates ate in the same space. The Air Force directly descended from the Army, and the least rank-conscious part of the Army was aviation. Its enlisted are smart technicians who keep planes in the air. The Air Force uniforms are more egalitarian. I do not think there is any problem with an aircrew sitting and eating together in the Air Force.

** You must be a subject matter expert to be elite at something. Elite, by definition, means superior—a status that requires mastering every aspect of your craft and continually striving for improvement.

** A rumble in the parking lot.

** 85% of the gravity in the universe has no known origin. We call it dark matter, but scientists have no clear understanding of what dark matter is. What do YOU think that it is?

** Tens of thousands of dockworkers have gone on strike indefinitely at ports across the US, threatening significant trade and economic disruption ahead of the presidential election and the busy holiday shopping season.

International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) members walked out on Tuesday at 14 major ports along the East and Gulf coasts, halting container traffic from Maine to Texas.

The action marks the first such shutdown in almost 50 years. Pedo Joe Biden has the power to suspend the strike for 80 days for further negotiations, but the White House has said he is not planning to act.

** Vice Presidential Debate – CBS and the cowardly governor Walz wanted us to suspend disbelief and to accept that even though Veep Harris was a successful whore many years ago, she can also be a successful US President and not merely a puppet for the fourth term of Barack Hussein Obama.

In Israel

“Here in Israel, there’s been deep relief and celebration over the killing of the Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, along with some 20 senior Hezbollah and Iranian operatives who were meeting with him in an underground bunker in Beirut.

It’s not just the removal of an arch-terrorist and key strategist of mass murder across the region and the world.

It’s not just the blow this has inflicted on the genocidal Iranian regime in which Nasrallah was a vital cog.

No less critical to the beleaguered Israelis has been the demonstration of jaw-dropping intelligence and military genius in a series of brilliant maneuvers — the rapid degradation of Hezbollah’s rocket arsenal, the exploding pagers and two-way radios, and the elimination of the entire Radwan high command through one missile strike, leaving Hezbollah already in chaos and on the ropes when mighty bunker-buster bombs killed Nasrallah and his fellow mass murderers.

To a country still deeply traumatized by the astounding failure of its intelligence and military establishment to prevent the barbaric pogrom on October 7, thus shattering the sacred promise that Israel embodied for the Jewish remnant of the Holocaust that this was the one country that would guarantee their safety, the super-smart and perfectly executed decimation of the enemy — in just two weeks, after almost a year of traumatic horror, grief and loss — has been a national shot in the arm. “

https://melaniephillips.substack.com/p/a-seismic-moment…

Of course, the morally bankrupt and, frankly, increasingly out-to-lunch West doesn’t see it that way. Once again, it’s blaming Israel for attempting to defeat its mortal enemies rather than surrendering to them and is siding with those intent upon genocide rather than supporting their intended victims.

  2. Off topic local breakfast radio show was talking about Russian / USA fighter jets incident.

One of the announcers said “ the hot line would not be any use as Biden would not be able to use the phone”.

Fairly damaging remark from a media person.

Anyway back to packing for a four day weekend late season hunting trip. Weather will be too hot in a few weeks. No phone service in the area so play nice while I’m away.

    1. The hotline would not be any use as Biden would not be able to use the phone – He’s about at the level of a potted plant, and we accept that here. There’s not much else that can be done at the moment. He hasn’t run anything for the past four years. Wall Street Mandarins make most decisions. If Harris is installed to replace him, the shadow government will continue. To be fair about it, the shadow government (unelected, unknown people calling the shots and controlling the nuclear launch codes) has been effective in many ways. I could outline them, but that’s not how the place was set up to operate. Enjoy your hunting trip. As it heats up there, it cools here. There are hunters where I live, harvesting elk and deer. They take refuge near my house. MRSLL counted over 100 deer and two dozen elk last night. Bagging the perfect bull elk for me (yearling spike) is a matter of sitting on the back deck (elevated), selecting the animal, shooting it at 20 meters, driving my truck over, hoisting it, bleeding it, and cleaning it, skinning it and driving it to a neighbor who is a skilled butcher to parts it out, wraps the parts and then puts them in the freezer. It destroys the fun of the hunt, but it’s practical.

      1. Showing your “rural privilege” again I see. Then again, good to have reliable skilled help in the neighborhood.

      2. The fun of the hunt is usually sitting in a blind for hours to do at 100 yards what you do at 20 and pulling it out with a four wheeler, or a tractor is you are my FIL.
        You enjoy compressed fun.

        1. It’s not particularly fun. Just harvesting meat. It can’t be called hunting…maybe culling?

    2. Well my kids and grandkids are helping clean up Marshall North Carolina. My wife has been cooking and making sandwiches for. The volunteers we got our electric back and have had people stopping by for showers and clothes washing weve got six folks staying with us. We shall muddle thru were pretty tough here pray for us

  3. v.6 Hidden News- Yeah, nothing to see there, move along folks. “If all you conspiracy theorists don’t quit making up stuff that become validated as true…vee vill remotely install kiddie porn on your cars entertainment system then arrest you with a FBI attack team while you are in the Drive-Thru at Mickey-D’s.”

Geez LL, pretty much summed it up with that dirty laundry list as done by those running this s–tshow/dumpster fire/train wreck (since this is a family blog please excuse the ‘S’ word there, some terms are appropriate). Last nights idiocy (Vance handily and respectfully cleaned The Coward’s clock, who looks like an unfunny Don Rickles) proves when so-called moderators (hahahah….riiiiiight) say they will allow the candidate’s to fact check each other is clearly code for “We will fact check YOU in realtime while allowing your Lefty Loon opponent to spew lies about his own life”…might mean with your List above could trigger a visit from The Boys in Sunglasses @ 3am for using your 1A rights to speak the truth to the lies (what they call “misinformation/disinformation…new fake words). Then again they likely know it would be a futile “chat” in the backwoods of AZ’s high country.

Looking at your content this week thusfar, I swear The Dem’s/Left/Middle Class Angry White Woman believe they are reading a Hollywood dystopian script believing it’s real life…altho probably IS real to their addled brains so it’s useless to try arguing truth to lies with the lot of ’em. Watch the Dem’s stuff Joshy into Timmy’s VEEP slot. Crazy? Wouldn’t put it past those running the puppet show with visible strings.

      1. Hard to know, could be true in that case…yet crying wolf seems to be the employed operation to obscure truth and fiction. What can those of us out here in the hinterland believe anymore?

    1. >to spew lies about his own life

      Hey, Guys,
I heard a rumor that, much like young Joe Biden faced off with a bad negro dude called Corn Pop, young Tim Walz bravely stood up to a notorious Chinese Tong member called Rice Krispy. Fact check me here, bros! Is this actually true?

  4. When I think of dark matter, and gravity, I think of a fish swimming in water. The fish has no idea what it’s swimming in. We’re much the same, and realistically, may never have the knowledge to understand what surrounds the entire universe. Then again, a brilliant mind may determine a method to observe what we can’t see, and manipulate the force that controls everything, including time.

    1. Had a quarter million gallons of that stuff erupt from the sewage lift station down the street when Helene put 5 foot of tidal surge into our neighborhood. Got off lucky since I didn’t buy that mountain cabin I’ve been eyeing for a couple years.

Dark matter though, I think it’s the concentrated integrity of everyone who cast theirs off when they decided to become politicians. You can run, but it always gets you in the end.

  5. * I’m not certain that what the Scientific American is calling gravity is gravity; somebody finally poked a hole in that slick and the adherents appear to be caught up in the stream of gas still flowing from that minutest of punctures in the thin rubber skin (vide the dancing COVID doctors).
Is it gravity? is it Dark Matter? is it the expansion of the universe? is it another force (or a combination of various) that we haven’t yet considered? I’d like to hang around for another millenium (assuming we don’t veer too far off track or fall back into another Dark Ages) just to see what advances will come about in astrophysics (plus many others), but I’m afraid this cat has only the one.
    * quarterback vs. quarterdeck? and this from an AF guy
    * speaking of AF: in the mid to late ’60s I was informed “one does not mix with the ‘others’.” when it was learned that I had gone hunting with my corpsman and one of the sergeants from the hospital and then had gone to dine out on snowshoe stew (very tough, but tasty) at the NCO’s house; I deeply apologize for bursting your bubble about AF egalitarianism.
    * who (what group or nation) initiated the dockworkers’ strike at this time?

    1. Is the dockworker’s strike an October surprise? I don’t know. It will screw up Christmas shelf stocking and, thus, the most wonderful time of the retail year. Off topic, my father’s fourth wife’s (thus my step-mother) family were among the leaders of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, or ILWU (Port of Los Angeles). They were Irish-American (mafia) types who made considerable incomes doing what they did. The book, “Exiles from Eden” (shameless plug) that I wrote touched on that business. They haven’t gone on strike for quite a while but their members routinely make over $100K/year doing blue collar jobs. I don’t begrudge the work or the pay. Truckers would like to make more, but the ILWU controls chokepoints in commerce. Leverage. And they have the mafia to back them up.

      1. further reading today prompts me to ask:
is it just possible that our buddies in 北京 have initiated/instigated this strike – at this time – for what purpose? (yes, I’m a certified paranoid) h/t Sundance

        1. The PRC favors Pres. Trump over the Wall Street Mandarins who run the shadow government.

  6. i believe israel’s stunning victories put the boot to stories of “massive intel failure” on 10/07. these ops were going way more than a year, yet they say they didn’t know a couple thousand terr’s were coming to dinner? horsehockey. but if they want to sacrifice 1500 of their own to justify a final solution of the palestinian problem, that’s on them. not my monkeys. speaking of, funny how we act as range targets for the houti’s for a year, saying “nothin we can do”. yet they lob one into tel aviv and israel utterly destroys their only source of income in a blink sending them the rest of the way back to the stone age. hmmmm.

  7. > 85% of the gravity in the universe has no known origin. We call it dark matter, but scientists have no clear understanding of what dark matter is. What do YOU think that it is?
    .
Maybe it’s the scenery on the zoo cage wall. Like the backdrop of a movie, you aren’t supposed to analyze the shadows and figure out what day of the year it was; it’s just there to set the mood. That’s why the night sky isn’t full of advertising billboards, despite the James Webb telescope disproving Big Bang and showing the universe must be far older.

    1. How many Big Bangs are going on in the Universe at any point in time? How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

  8. totally off topic:
my cousin just called me from newyorkshitty
“My G-d! Gary, I can’t believe your haven’t floated away. there’s nothing left there, it’s total devastation. can’t you get off the island! there are no services, no food. are you the only one left in your condo? I’m sure if I call down there, the police’ll come get you and take you to a shelter, at least.”
Poor guy. he’s 4 years older than I and the MSM has him convinced that the tooth fairy is real. when are these guys’ toes gonna be held to flames for the dissemination of misinformation?
the people/stores that built in depressions were flooded unless they had brought in sand/dirt and built on artificial mounds or raised the first floor ~10 ft above ground level on concrete blocks.
if I still had one of my old cars, I’d take a hose to wash it and not worry about it rusting away from salt water exposure; the computer-chip autos are dead in the water. I wonder what’s happened to the EVs. somehow I just can’t call this progress.
not to mention a couple of officious officals at the bridge checking everyone’s credentials (hour and a half long line-/hold-up) for my safety to prevent looting++ when a 10mm would have done just as well.

    1. I have no idea what is going on with the storm. Newscasters routinely stand in foul weather gear at the beach with cameras rolling while revelers in bikinis are tossing beach balls to each other.

    2. “when a 10mm would have done just as well” – How would a socket help, assuming you can find it?

Humor aside…I hear every half hour (assuming I’m listening) the new death toll number, number of residents out of power, etc, etc. Hype for ratings while taking advantage of people’s personal plight. Scum.

  9. Rank has it’s privilege? 2nd LTs assigned to the 814th Engineer Company in Germany circa 1960’s seemed mortified during their first encounter with field living. They had their own small tent (which was usually the last one erected) and that was it. If the company was in the same place for a few days they might get their own straddle trench. Portable toilets was a concept far into the future.

    1. I’m sure that the 2nd LTs had officer’s servants tending to their kit and making their beds. When sitting around the wardroom tent, were they served on a white tablecloth the way it happens in the Navy?

      1. No servants but they did have an assigned M-141 and driver. They could go to the head of the chow line but carried their own food and beverage.
Sometimes they found a small table (no chairs) where they gathered with the other LTs. Some earned respect; some received “military courtesy” only. I always respected competent officers. Their path wasn’t easy. Many officers were versions of enlisted draftees. ROTC and a two year active duty obligation.
Imagine you are a fresh 2nd LT at the Rhine-Main officer transit billet, winter time, waiting to be picked up. A muddy M-37 pulls up and an equally muddy EM in full battle rattle has you paged. He grabs some of you bags, tosses them into the back of the 3/4 ton and off you go, freezing your ass off in your Class A uniform, riding in a drafty cab with an inadequate heater. Welcome to Germany.

        1. Much is expected of a young officer, and in truth, they’re every bit as rattled as young soldiers, airmen, seamen, or marines.

  10. Still waiting on the next book…tap…tap…tap… And yes, lots of ‘stuff’ disappeared from the news to support the left’s agenda! Dammit!

  11. I was on the phone with a Siemens tech support engineer. I had asked if we could do a webex since the solutions she was suggesting were not working. She said that internet was pretty sketchy where she was due to the storms. She’s in Tennessee. She said her hometown was hit very hard.
I told her I would be praying for her and her family.
When we were done and she was asking if there was anything else, I said, “Father, please help Brandy and her family and her neighbors through this time and please restore them and their situation, in Jesus Name.”
She started crying. I begged her not to cry.
I just got a follow up email:

    Ed
As per our conversation, please see the link below for the settings of the ALM server. Please let me know if you have any questions.
God Bless you and your family.

    Have a blessed day. Brandy

It’s not often I get a tech support e-mail that reads like that.

  12. When I hear the term dark matter be used to describe something nobody understands as if it really exists, I am reminded of the term ether that was used so frequently about the material that made up outer space.

  13. Dark matter and gravity? I contend that there is no such thing as gravity, it’s just that the Earth sucks.
USAF large aircrews (EC/MC/AC/HC-130, AWACS, JSTARS, C-5, KC/EC/RC-135) tend to work and hotel together, but it’s frequently O’s vs E’s when it comes to dining and entertainment. At Aviano, we had some hellacious laser tag and go kart races.
Israel arms embargo? Given enough time, the Israelies would surely copy and improve upon the denied weapons systems. A la Mirage 5/Kfir fighters. You don’t want to know (and may never find out) what they’re doing with their F-15/16/35’s

    1. As I understand the state of Israeli weapons systems, the F-16s in particular are very different from the way they arrived in the Promised Land. The F-15s are slightly less modified than the F-16s and I have no way of knowing what they might have or have not done to the F-35s. Since Iron Dome is manufactured in the US and shipped over as-is I think that’s more or less out of the box.
