Q – When did you first start shooting.
A – When I was old enough to hold a rifle and sight accurately. About 6 or 7 years. I shot my first deer when I was 7 1/2 in the White Mountains in Arizona during turkey season. My grandfather handed me his knife and I also field dressed it with his assistance. He did most of the skinning, etc.
Q – Under what circumstances did you meet the famous art philosopher Juliette (Jules) Smith?
A – A South African lady named Azra had a blog that I followed at least a decade ago, maybe longer. Jules was on that blog and contributed. Since then Jules and I have become friends and literary collaborators. Her most recent blog can be found here.

Beamed power. Interesting, I had thought of it as massive banks of solar cells in orbit beaming power down to earth and getting rid of windmills and other ugly infrastructure on the ground. I had not considered providing power to moving vehicles. Continuing to hit the receptors on the vehicle while it is moving would be a challenge.
They really do have a scorched earth policy.

In pre crazy Australia (1960’s) I started with a .22 at eight and my son about the same.
Legally now is it is 12 in most states and 11 in mine. All part of the try discourage new people. Not working around here, two more gun shops opened in the last year.
I think that 8 is a good age for children to learn about firearms safety and practice it under controlled settings.
I started shooting a German air rifle at 12 living in the suburbs of New Orleans. Rode bicycle to hunt squirrels, rabbit and dove along the Mississippi River and an old WWII prisoner camp. Gun in a vinyl sleeve tied to the frame of the bike. Back then nobody cared although didn’t advertise what we were doing. Rifle was deadly accurate at close range. Miss those simple times.
Enjoying the Quest series and yes, we all, pretty much, started shooting at 7.
For me that was a Browning .22 takedown on my mother’s land near Denton. Shot a tin can to bits and then some. Yes, there were shotgun incidents too, “Throw that log up and shoot it!” Where? in downtown Denton. I asked my mother, “How was that allowed?” She answered, “We owned the block.”
