Emerald Islands on an Azure Sea

From Google: The Solomon Islands, a nation of hundreds of islands in the South Pacific, has many WWII-era sites. Guadalcanal, a province and one of the archipelago’s largest islands, honors fallen Allied soldiers at its U.S. War Memorial. Guadalcanal is also home to the nation’s capital, Honiara, whose bustling Central Market showcases the islands’ produce and traditional handicrafts.

A lot of Sailors died in Iron Bottom Sound and a lot of US Marines, soldiers and Japanese soldiers and Marines died on Guadalcanal and elsewhere in the Island Nation.  So did the Australians and New Zealanders. What was once most strategic is strategic again.

bilateral security agreement between China and the Solomons signed early last year raised concerns about a Chinese naval base being established in the South Pacific. China has denied seeking a military foothold in the Solomons.

All well and good we’re speaking of the People’s Republic of China and today they call the shots on Guadalcanal. There is significant pushback from the population. In order to better protect Chinese interests there,  they co-opted the police.

(The Guardian) –  October 12, 2022 A delegation of more than 30 Solomon Islands police officers has traveled to China to undergo training for the first time, in a sign of deepening ties between the two countries, which signed a controversial security deal earlier this year.

The group of 34 officers, including a deputy and an assistant commissioner, will be in China for a month, during which time they will receive training, visit police stations and departments and learn from the expertise of Chinese police, according to a statement issued by Solomon Islands government

The officers would also gain a “better understanding of Chinese police, diversified Chinese cultures and friendly Chinese people”, said Counsellor Yao Ming, the deputy head of mission at the Chinese embassy in Honiara, according to the statement.

China and The Soloman Islands signed a security pact. Under the terms of the agreement, China can send armed police there to help preserve “social order”.

Based on the agreement, when the Chinese police arrived in the Solomon Islands, they were placed under local command. Is that true? Technically,  yes.  Practically, do you think that the Communist Chinese People’s Armed Police really answered to the locals? If you do, I have a bridge to sell you at a discounted price.

The Solomon Islands domino fell. Which one is next?

What of France?

Will France cede control of its Pacific Territory to Red China? France is present in the region via its overseas territories and 93% of its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) is located in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The region is home to 1.5 million French people, as well as 8,000 soldiers stationed in the region.

The French Navy deployed its Aquitaine-class FREMM multimission frigate Lorraine to the North Pacific recently. The French Armed Forces in New Caledonia (FANC) and in French Polynesia (FAPF) currently operate 2 surveillance frigates equipped with 1 helicopter each, 3 patrol vessels, 2 multi-mission ships, 5 maritime surveillance aircraft, 4 tactical transport aircraft, and 5 helicopters. The French are nervous. Who trusts China? What can the French flotilla do against the might of China’s People’s Liberation Army’s Navy and Coast Guard?

Chinese Lessons – Yoshihara finds that Chinese analysts, including those affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), have scrutinized the Pacific War. Their historical accounts of the war at sea explicitly draw lessons for the future of Chinese warfighting, including warfare in the information age, modern amphibious operations, land-based maritime strike, and expeditionary logistics.

They’d like to deploy weapons from the Solomons. See how the map would change.

Bullet Points:

** Another stupid TV commercial: Not-so-bright inner-city family driving in their GMC truck, totally oblivious to the roadway as they laugh and play paddy-cake to “We Will Rock You.” Unaware if there’s any oncoming traffic, but still allow their self-driving truck to pass a semi on a two-lane highway at 80mph. Nah, nothing could go wrong here.

** Gateway Pundit – The FBI has been holding the Hunter laptop since 2019. They have failed to act on this classified material that was shared by Hunter Biden with his business associates and foreign operatives. This was criminal conduct. The FBI knows this and covered it up… UNTIL NOW!

The Gateway Pundit will expose this information in a series of reports this week.

** Leslie Eastman reports on Earth’s Core on L.I. Blog. The rotation of Earth’s inner core may have paused and it could even go into reverse, new research suggests.

  1. one of the most frightening, hostile, intelligent, strategic decisions (I’m not certain where I want to put the commas) by the CCP I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched their economic war against “the Western” world in which they’ve been highly successful, robbing us of our “strength”, but this is an entirely different level.
Or am I just being my usual paranoid self?

    • They’ve been masterful and wonderfully manipulative. The open society has allowed them to copy, for the most part, those things that they couldn’t have come up with. One of the benefits of being Chinese (Mainland or Taiwan) is that they think the same way. They pride themselves on it and far from inscrutability, they’re predictable. I used that predictability against them professionally. Once you ‘break the social code’ you prevail almost all of the time.

The problem for westerners whether it’s hubris or something else is that they don’t break the code.

As I’ve quoted here before, a People’s Liberation Army general once told me that for him, Los Angeles is the mysterious east.

For example, it mystifies the Chinese that the US would get rid of somebody like President Trump and replace him with a demented career hack and whore who famously serviced the negro community.

      • I suspect that the Chinese think that Joe/Ho were selected by Our Masters to show their contempt for the American people, and to show the abject servility and desire for abasement of their dupes and minions – i.e. to demonstrate their power.

If the Chinese think that, I suspect that they are correct.

  2. The Chinese are a high-IQ, insular, paranoid, and proud people with millennia of continuous identity. They view outsiders as subhuman, and are also prone to lugubrious self-pity over historical wrongs they may or may not have suffered at the hands of others. The Chinese do not forget and they do not forgive. They hold grudges. So what they’re doing co-opting law enforcement in the Solomons is only to be expected. This sort of hijacking institutions, gutting them, and then wearing them as a ski suit ought to be very familiar to the West, because we’ve lived it. But both leftist and rightist cultural programming doesn’t allow us to notice it.

Where the Chinese will fail is that they don’t particularly have high verbal acuity, and they are not good at propaganda and subversion through humor and moral corruption. (Though I do have to admit that TikTok is wildly successful, so they ARE able to advance their agendas via social engineering of popular culture.) They are also very crude players of the victimhood game. I’ve said before that I think it’s going to come down to warfare (of one sort or another) between the remnants of the former West (run by people who actually hate the West) and China. A pox on both their houses.

  3. I always dreamed of visiting the South Pacific, to see in person some of the places I have so often fought cardboard, pewter, plastic, and pixel wars over, for so much of my life.

Also to see some of the places my dad saw in the war. I used to ask him what some of these, to me, vastly exotic places were like (“You went to Noumea? What was it like? ). When I was young, he generally told me he didn’t much remember – when I got older, he eventually said “I spent most of the war stuck on a CVL at sea, all these places you ask about had women and bars, and that’s all I was interested in”. One of my many “oh, duh” moments.

Anyway, although there was never any real likelihood of going, I guess the dream is off the table now, or at least the middle part of it.

    • I also looked into what it would take to go have a lookit where Dad was, in his case Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. Look like that’s off the table now, too. I’m very certain his head would have exploded if he’d lived to see what’s taken place there.

  4. Earth’s Core- So should I eat both half gallons of Schwan’s tonight while enjoying the last view from the front deck? OR…is this yet another Chicken Little moron so delusional they believe they can predict the end of life as we know. EVERYBODY PANIC…now…no wait…now.

Every decade someone emerges with more ELE bad news…that never comes true.
