A New Church Committee?
There’s a new committee in Congress created by Republicans and modeled after the Church Committee in the 1970s. It’s already digging into alleged abuses by those in the FBI, the Department of Justice, and other federal agencies.
The following is a transcript of a report from “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson.” Watch the video by clicking the link.
Sen. Frank Church / D-Idaho (Nov. 18, 1975): These hearings have one overriding objective: the development of sufficient information for Congress to legislate appropriate standards for the FBI.
In 1975, Sen. Frank Church, a Democrat, led a new Senate committee tasked with investigating government abuse against Americans.
Sen. Church (Nov. 18, 1975): If the fault is to be found, it does not rest in the Bureau alone. It is to be found also in the long line of attorneys general, presidents, and Congresses, who have failed — who have given power, rather, and responsibility, to the FBI — but have failed to give it adequate guidance, direction, and control.
The allegations sound eerily familiar today. The FBI and CIA were accused of unconstitutional spying on U.S. citizens. The findings inspired new controls, including the creation of a secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, to add checks on U.S. intel agencies. But in recent years, that court and others have unearthed ongoing abuses by the same intel agencies.
Now, the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government will investigate more current government attacks on American civil liberties. Republican Thomas Massie is on the new committee.
Sharyl: What are some of the things that you’re interested, personally, in first examining?
Rep. Thomas Massie / R-Kentucky: It’s a target-rich environment. We’re looking for acts of commission, not omission, okay. It’s weaponization. It’s not incompetence. So I would start with what we know, what’s already in the public, which is the Twitter files for instance. The fact that we know the FBI paid Twitter. We know the FBI suggested, and Twitter complied with — in fairness to them, they occasionally pushed back — but they did comply in many instances of shutting down the free speech of private citizens at the insistence of the government, who was paying them, if not directly for that activity, at least for another activity. And I think you’ve got a violation of the First Amendment when you have a collaboration that’s that close.
Sharyl: When there is a violation of a Constitutional amendment, who punishes that, or what is the recourse? Particularly if the agency making the alleged error or misconduct is in charge of prosecutions. There’s not going to be a prosecution of themselves.
Rep. Massie: You know, I’ve run into this before on the Oversight Committee.
Massie harkens back to the IRS’s Lois Lerner, who eventually apologized for being part of weaponizing the tax agency against conservative groups ahead of the 2012 presidential election. And Attorney General Eric Holder, refused to testify to Congress on the Obama administration’s secret operations, such as Fast and Furious, that armed Mexican drug cartels.
Rep. Massie: We called in Lois Lerner, and she took the Fifth.
Lois Lerner (March 5, 2014): My counsel has advised me that I have not waived my constitutional rights under the Fifth Amendment, and on his advice, I will decline to answer any question on the subject matter of this hearing.
Rep. Massie: It’s pretty clear that she was upper / mid-level management, and whether she was acting at the direction of somebody or acting on her own, she was undertaking unconstitutional activity against Americans. And we never were able to convict her or even get to her pension. Then you had Eric Holder, who was in contempt of Congress and refused to answer our questions or to show up. And we referred him to the DOJ. And is the DOJ going to investigate their boss? Well, in that case they didn’t. But things have changed a little bit. With the January 6th Committee, they sort of set some precedents that, you know, you can go after private citizens, and if they didn’t show up, even if they’re no longer working for the government, they were referred criminally, and in some cases pursued.
Sharyl: So let’s say you unearth what you see are some persistent problems or politicization or weaponization. What is something practical you could see potentially coming out of this, something realistic?
Massie: Legislation. I think creating causes of action, for instance. You know, it’s really hard to sue the federal government. Maybe we need to create some more of those areas so that when this does happen again, people have the ability to go to the courts. At the end of the day, the big thing that these organizations — or maybe I should call them organisms — fear is cutting off their food source, which is money. And that’s where — that’s ultimately what we can do, even if we can’t prosecute the individuals in charge.

Just got back from a dental appointment. The dentist had an interesting tale from his golfing buddy, who’s an attorney. Seems the attorney just won a case for a client who had a massive die-off on his cricket farm. After investigating it, the source was some re-purposed commercial feed. It was originally created for cattle, and was laced with insecticide – the theory being that when the cows dumped a load then flies would land on the insecticide laden manure and be killed off. Only it didn’t work, the flies were too hardy. But, the same feed, now sold as cricket food, DID manage to kill off a bunch of crickets. After the settlement, the lawyer received a call from another cricket farmer who recently had a massive die-off.
So…what’s in your food?
Oh no! This is an emergency as it’ll wreck the “eat bugs” push supply chain flow.
Five bucks the “they” will get right on this one unlike…oh…I don’t know…East Palestine, or chickens not laying eggs, beef processing plants blowing up, dairy barns imploding…those normal things we get to deal with under this Marxist regime.
This particular cricket farm was growing them for fish bait, not people food. But, yeah, it will be considered a hot item to fix by the illustrious mentats we have trying to re-create the world into their own image.

Church Committee take 2. Results do matter. If the committee brings up a bunch of abuses but nothing happens then the committee was practically worthless. “Wait and See” is a good attitude to take.

I can drive about 10 minutes and arrive in a county with a high murder rate. In the past, and still in the larger cities, it’s a bastion of Democratic power. Those that can are leaving as fast as they can, or moving to the rural areas of the country. The best way to describe what were once thriving communities is “shit holes”. My hometown was one of the cities and can’t attract any new business, unless it’s tied to the petrochemical industry. Even then, there is no incentive for workers to live in the city that receives the tax revenue.
The interview raises a good point, it’s hardly likely for the malfeasants to prosecute themselves. That in mind, the green tip magazines worked as a powerful infographic. But this is besides the point.

Oh please. All that blather and not a word about race? The NRA are despicable.
The moment the NRA mentions race then any chance of the information getting through the deluded and confused is lost.
Very smart ploy. Mention the zip codes. And let the people extrapolate the data by themselves.
Like my city. Gainesville, FL. 10 murders. Most in two zip codes, the East side of town. Gee… who lives in the east side? Gee…. The other 4 zip codes, maybe 1 or 2, usually associated with… people from the east side of town.
But if I go to anywhere in Gainesville, FL and talk about the startling levels of black-on-black violence I’ll be shut down. If I talk about the excess crime in two zipcodes, it will take a while before I’ll get shut down (or shot.)
My younger sister lives on the East side of town. It is getting more vibrant, which is a bad sign for Gainesville.
There are some nice and cheap apartments on the SW side of town. Oak Glades Apartments is one of them. Not the finest, but then again, we’re not in a war zone.
The East has always been ‘vibrant’ but 10 years ago the murder rate was 1-2 in the city. Now it’s 10-15, with shootings on the East side every week, almost every day.

Massie could vote to cut off the money, which would work. But instead he wants to “legislate appropriate standards for the FBI”, which didn’t work after Church Committee I. Anyone who clearly is in a position to understand what would improve things, but clearly doesn’t do that, is not on your side.
A good friend of MIKEW and mine was a US Senate investigator who worked on the Church Committee. After Church left the Senate, FBI attacked him relentlessly. FBI has a long corporate memory.

There’s essentially zero chance of the information getting through anyway, so why bother pandering to those people’s delicate sensibilities?
Calling things for what they are does two things. First, there is a chance of an honest discussion. Second, it lets serious people know that you too can (at least provisionally) be taken seriously.
Shit culture, low IQ and limited impulse control are a terrible combination. Marinate in resentment (courtesy of outside influences) and it’s a recipe for bad things to happen. And they have and continue to happen.
Because if you mention race, then the message gets actively attacked and shut down and the user gets banned or shadow-banned, the Google links get put on page 15 of any search, so forth and so on. Takes more brain-power to figure out that it’s those wacky Amish when you use zip codes.
Let’s get to the nitty-gritty as to the murder-death-kill numbers. You can lay most of them directly on lax prosecution standards, excessive plea bargaining and charge reduction by prosecutors, lax judicial standards linked to parole and probation violations, lax standards of tracking and maintaining criminal records, and other leftist bullscat crap.
Clamp down on the criminals and put them away, provide real punishment, real prosecution, real hard cop-ish behavior to the jackwagons and jillcarts that have multiple felony violations yet still walk the streets free and clear, and the overall crime rate and the corresponding murder rate would go down.
Better yet, change the fed rules and regulations that make it more better for certain females to be unmarried brood mares and restore the black nuclear family and you’ll stop a lot of this crap in one generation.
Then kick out all the illegal aliens. Boohoo stories don’t count. Don’t whine because you or your nana or your baby has been here for 30 years illegally. Get the hell out. All out. Don’t care about sob stories and all the other bullscat.
Do that, and crime will drop.

This is so obvious it screams ‘evil’, yet the feckless R’s folded with their requisite whimper — the Committee passed the bill, and God wept.

It would also help if we killed the worst perps, instead of farming them forever to enhance bureaucrat salaries.
I often propose this as a compromise (I would be harsher if it were my call) and get few people who object –
3 violent felony (murder, rape assault, whatevs) convictions means automatic death sentence. One final appeal allowed, must be w/in 1 year. After appeal fails, execution must be w/in one year. All three convictions can come at once, don;t have to be separate trials.
Yeah, I’m sure there are people who think it’s the right thing to try and keep Dahmer or Berkowitz or Ridgeway alive on Jailfare forever, because it wasn’t their fault, or they’re just misunderstood or some crap. Screw them.
None of this revolving door rehabilitation crap, kill them. There are probably millions of people in and now released from US prisons who should just be in the damn ground. As for the “it’s no deterrent” argument, it deters the hell out of the dead people.

One proposal that will never get off the ground: build a max security prison for violent offenders. Once it reaches the maximum number any time a new offender gets sent there, the one who has been there the longest gets executed.

People who disagree should be issued one as a pet, a sponsor if you will, to take care of in their very own home and be personally responsible for in perpetuity and considered an accomplice if their pet misbehaves under their sponsorship. Personal responsibility and all that, it burns.
While I live in one of the zero murder counties, a 40 minute drive gets me to one with over 100. Some years ago I knew a homicide detective with the Kansas City MO PD. As he put it, most of the victims in cases he investigated were people no one would miss.

I watch a lot of murder shows, like “The First 48.” And I worked at a pd for a while. Most people who get killed do something to get them killed. Drugs are a #1 reason (with sub-categories of ‘stealing for drugs,’ ‘stealing drugs,’ ‘having stuff stolen for drugs,’ ‘having one’s drugs stolen.’ Far down the list is non-drug-related homicides.
#1 cause of homicides in white women are linked to black men and drugs.
Yet we should legalize drugs and white men are the real criminals in this society. (Bangs head against wall, slowly.)
Most murders in America are black-on-black. It statistical not racist. I worked murder-for-hire investigations for the District Attorneys Office in Orange County, CA. These were worked from the ground up and in conjunction with other PD or sheriffs homicide. Unlike the run of the mill, these included all races including an Ananda Marga hit (red dot Indian).
Big Mexican Weddings- in SoCal- there was almost always a stabbing or a shooting. Sometimes the victim died. Is not racist to say that.
That is our primary streamed programming, 1st 48, etc…nearly every homicide is due to bad decisions, drugs, drinking, or generated emotions. The others are due to a “I want what you have worked hard for, if you resist me taking it I’ll shoot you” lazy bum criminal mentality.
As Joe Kenda has said (Homicide Hunter), “We did a study of our homicide files, nothing good happens at 1:21AM when you are out on the street”.
We love Kenda. He has such a dry wit and wonderful speaking voice.
And, yes, nothing good happens after midnight.
Even worse is the hours between 8:00AM and 10:00AM on Monday, when employers find out they’ve been robbed and/or their employees have been killed. If you’re working at a PD, Monday morning sucks.

Yeah. Aside from Domestics and Workplace (sort of the same thing), you only really have the fringe cases (serial and spree murders, bystanders) where any significant number of murders occur involving anything other than career criminals killing each other.
