Russia leads the world in chess masters and axe murderers…
I learned long ago that Russians never undertake strategic negotiations from “square one,” as we would say. They always commence the process by demanding substantive concessions before sitting down and “negotiating.”
Those pre-negotiation requirements are almost always a complete litany of what they want out of the negotiations in the first place. In short, they expect the other side to capitulate to their goals before trying to see how much further they can go once everyone agrees to come to the table. This puts them in what they perceive as a “win-win” situation. No matter how the bargains go, they have secured what they wanted before the haggling begins.
This tactic is evident in Putin’s refusal to negotiate until all or most of his demands are met.
Anyone who gives in to this tactic has already lost the negotiations. Russia will never give up what has already been conceded to get them to the table, and they expect further concessions to be made during the talks. It is a “lose-lose” position for Russia’s opponents — unless they refuse to play that game.
It’s an older map. The demographic in Gaza has shifted from Palestinian to empty space for the most part.
Public Employment vs Private Employment
In private markets, companies compare the upside of a person’s job with the downside by examining how much the worker produces (in terms of additional revenue generated) and comparing that to how much it costs to employ (in terms of wages, benefits, and so on).
If a new job produces more revenue than it costs in terms of resources, it will be created because it adds to the company’s profitability.
If a new job costs more than the revenue it brings in, then this implies that other uses of those resources are expected to be more urgently demanded by consumers.
In this case, the company would incur a loss, and a new job would not be created.
On the flip side, when the government creates jobs, no such accounting takes place. Since politicians and bureaucrats do not use profit and loss, there is no way to see if the value of the resources used is greater than the value of the services provided.
The government can create jobs by taking tax dollars.
However, some jobs are destructive to society’s wealth. It would be wasteful if some private company used millions of dollars of resources to dig holes in the ground and immediately refill them. We don’t worry about this happening because a company whose owners chose to do this would make massive losses.
No taxpayer would be happy with the government paying someone a six-figure salary to dig holes and fill them back in. But how can the government be sure that existing government jobs aren’t wealth-destroying? How can we tell if some positions are essentially just hole-digging-and-refilling positions? Without profit-and-loss accounting, we can’t.
The federal government is not fundamentally a jobs program—at least not if we want it to improve citizens’ lives. As such, the claim that cutting government is bad for the economy because people lose jobs does not follow. Those people will go on to find employment in the private sector, where their new employers are subject to the desires of customers and the forces of competition, profit, and loss.
Or they won’t because they cannot do anything that anyone finds useful. And this terrifies people who have spent half of their working life lapping at the government trough.

“Clinton-appointed Judge Richard Young has ordered the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) to provide sex change surgery for a “transgender” inmate who murdered a baby.
The inmate, Jonathan Richardson (right), who now goes by “Autumn Cordellioné,” is in prison for the reckless homicide of a baby.
Richardson was convicted in 2001 for strangling his then-wife’s 11-month-old daughter to death.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the lawsuit against the Indiana Department of Corrections seeking a sex change on behalf of Richardson in 2023, three years after the baby-killer decided to begin identifying as a woman.
Currently, there is a law in Indiana banning taxpayer-funded sex change procedures for inmates. According to a Fox News report, the ACLU argued that the law violates the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition of “cruel and unusual punishment.”
Judge Young sided with the ACLU on March 5 and ordered taxpayers to foot the bill for the murderer’s vanity surgery.
“The court ordered that the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Correction should be preliminarily enjoined to take all reasonable actions to secure Ms. Cordellioné gender-affirming surgery at the earliest opportunity,” Judge Young wrote.”
This is the ACLU providing another good example of why all decent people should consider their opinions garbage, and a judge delivering a perfect example of a case in which civic disobedience is justified and morally required.

This might be a problematic ID, so I’ll throw out hints. It was used as a mail plane before WW2 but was pressed into service as a combat aircraft at the beginning of the war. Three hundred twenty-four were built. The photo below is of a Hungarian Air Force variant. Parts of the airframe were made out of a highly flammable magnesium alloy called “elektron”, though most of the monocoque fuselage was duralumin. Elektron is very light yet strong, but burns readily when ignited and is difficult to extinguish. Moreover, each wing contained a non-self-sealing 210-liter (47-imperial-gallon) fuel tank, which may have added to the aircraft’s reputation for catching fire.

Whitley’s most gloriously unhinged characteristic was its flying attitude. One Whitley pilot described taking off as ‘with the tail up and the nose almost touching the deck…’ It had all to do with the angle of the wing, which was pointing at an entirely different part of the sky from that which the fuselage was pointing at. If you look at the red lines on the photo, they follow the direction of flight of the wings and the engines.
The Mk.IV with Merlin engines doesn’t look so bad, as the top curve of the engine cowling ‘corrects’ the visual disparity a bit. But take a look at a Tiger-engined Mk.III from the side, and it looks as if the engines have been stuck on by a very bad modeller!
You go to war with what is at hand, but in many cases, I marvel that some of these aircraft were able to function.

Different geologic feature. The San Andreas Fault is at least 10 miles deep and 800 miles in length. It forms part of the tectonic boundary between the Pacific plate and the North American plate. Movement is healthy because the plate grind against each other. When it stops grinding – pressure builds. The point is that the plates are moving in different directions in respect to each other.

Federal Judges and accountability.
The problem is there is no accountability, in real terms. Maybe some professional embarrassment when a higher court smacks them down. There must be a way for District Judges to only have power in their districts. Any ideas?
The Supreme Court needs to rule on definitive executive power limits such that it provides specific instruction to lower courts and limits their authority in these matters.
