Teachers are role models to impressionable children. Having the right people teaching the rising generation are important. Education (also called learning, teaching or schooling) in the general sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character, or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills, and values from one generation to another. What values do we want to transmit?
This photo comes to us from a recent California Teachers Union demonstration in downtown Los Angeles.
I don’t oppose their right to demonstrate, to speak freely and express their opinions. However, I don’t want them teaching my children/grandchildren.
I don’t want this person teaching my children/grandchildren either. And perhaps it comes down to simply spending more money to send children to private schools and boycotting public education as a practical matter. Maybe Charter Schools are the way to go?
Clearly, teacher’s unions are doing for education what the United Auto Workers did for automobile manufacturing in America. I’m not calling for an end to teacher’s unions, however I don’t know whether or not it’s in MY children’s/grandchildren’s best interest to attend a school where the teachers are unionized because it seems to breed corruption and the ‘inclusive’ nature of the system allows people to teach who I personally am not comfortable with at the head of a class.
Happy Labor Day.
