** The American Assault Tank in WW2—In March 1942, The Americans decided to build special assault tanks. The Assault Tank T14 was the first and only vehicle in this class. The T14 used Medium Tank M4 components but radically differed from the Sherman. This 43-ton tank had better protection than the Medium Tank M4 but was worse at everything else. By 1943, the Medium Tank T26, which only existed on paper, looked much more promising than the T14, so interest in it rapidly began to wane.
In the spring of 1944, the Americans realized that the T26 was still quite a ways off, but a specialized assault tank would be needed for the upcoming landings in France. This called for a more urgent and simpler solution than last time. The existing Medium Tank M4A3 was taken as a starting point. The tank was loaded to 39 tons to simulate the weight of extra armor. Trials showed that the Sherman’s suspension and engine could take the load.
No prototype was built; the first (and only) batch of 250 M4A3E2 tanks began immediately. The first vehicle was delivered for trials to Chrysler’s tank lab on May 19th, 1944. Trials of this tank showed some slight issues with the suspension that could be mitigated by driving more carefully off-road. This was head and shoulders better than the performance of the buggy Assault Tank T14. The 250 tanks proved themselves in Europe later that year, but sadly, despite excellent reviews from the crews, no more were ever built.

Crash
Seems there were four evil assholes on board plus body guards. Cause? Maybe God works in mysterious ways?
I told you, the Jesus Nut came off the Huey (a failing of that aircraft). The rotor pulled away from the fuselage and sent them to their 72 Virginians.
There was a rather famous crash near one of Australia’s ski fields in 2005 when the multi millionaire passenger insisted that the pilot keep going in a snow storm.
Result dead millionaire and wife plus dead pilot and crashed twin Piper Chieftain.
As has been said many times you fly by avoiding the edges of the air.
Wealth does not make one smart…the pilot is certainly regretting his error in not standing up to the passenger.
The pilot gambled (job vs life) and lost. It happens…

I’ve been trying for over 65 years (since a college freshman) to explain to Liberals (Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, and Hindu) why I find their Weltanshauung a bit skewed. Only last night at dinner with my wife’s friends I was called an idiot – and the guy was right: I’d been wasting my time trying to explain; they just couldn’t see beyond the NYTimes, and despite their advanced degrees, couldn’t understand/integrate/remember history.
The other guy at the table wanted to know why I volunteered; I told him that had my parents not come over here in time, I would have been born in an oven – and I don’t like to be in debt: I owe this country for everything it’s given me and allowed me to be. Since his background was not all that different from mine – and he fully understood why I had made the decision I did, I asked him why he didn’t volunteer. The answer accidently escaped his lips: “I’m a coward,” he said.
Yes, he’d had a bit to drink, but this was the first time a Liberal (actually a Socialist-Progressive) had ever been honest with me.

The NFL has been dead to me for decades…too many rules designed for TV adverts and the fact it’s all about greed and not so much the game anymore. If they want to waste more money on DEI Insanity, so be it…reminded me of the cardboard cutouts they stuck in stadiums during The Lockdown Idiocy to give the optics of a more full stadium…like people were stupid enough to believe it was real (ok, some are). Was out to dinner with friends last week…LAST WEEK…Stanley Cup Finals were on bar screens….in mid May! All about the cash. Same with Pro Baseball…as kids we gave up playing ball by the end of September, not into late October. If I ever went to another game it’d be Dbl. A…fun and still family oriented.

This past weekend, I was scrolling through the videos YouTube offers me (for no apparent reason) and if you’re familiar with that system, you know that if it thinks your mouse is hovering over a video, it starts playing. I usually don’t even notice them but this one was a Miami fashion show of swimwear.
I saw three women built like and looking like those in the front row wearing swimsuits best described at three eye patches. They would have looked better in one of those green tents all the pro-Hamas college kids are sleeping in.
My skin is crawling just thinking of it.

I can’t throw stones about looks or fatness, but at least I try to cover it up in public.

Supposedly based on some actual historical African who came to be called Yasuke in Japan in the 1500’s. The Japanese are not happy, to put it mildly [1]. Anyway, despite a book written by two white men (one of whom looks like he scrubs his wife’s boyfriend’s toilet while WBF is busy with his wife) proclaiming Yasuke “a legendary black warrior in fedual Japan” it’s not clear that Yasuke was made a samurai. Very much not clear.

When I was a kid you could still see the remains of the Carole Lombard crash site in the mountains above Las Vegas. Just reflections off the metal when the light was right. I expect no one is looking towards that mountain today, 80+ years after the crash.

We all know that, burned into our brains seeing him tumble and fall when he lost his balance trying to slow his ramp speed. I can recall Jim McKay saying it looked worse than it was as far as injury, a slight concussion and a broken ankle. Thing is, the guy was a Slovenian painter and forklift operator to supplement his jumping. Became the coach st some point. Defeat only holds down those who let it.
