The Islamic State posted a statement about the fighting in the southern Philippines:
“Dozens Dead Among the Crusader Army in Marawi and in an Ambush on the Island of Jolo Sulu in the Southwestern Philippines”
“East Asia — 29 Sha’ban 1438” (25 May 2017) — By the grace of God alone, more than 70 Philippine Army Crusaders were struck down, with others left wounded, and numerous armored vehicles destroyed in wide-scale attacks carried out by caliphate soldiers against Philippine Army headquarters, checkpoints, and positions in the city of Marawi, in the southern Philippines.”
“The city is still witnessing clashes, and we ask God to facilitate for his monotheist worshipers. Meanwhile, 10 Army Crusaders are dead, among them four officers, and two military vehicles are destroyed in an attack by caliphate soldiers on the island of Jolo, Sulu, in the southwestern Philippines. May all praise be to God, Lord of all Creation.”
Official government sources reported 21 casualties on this second day of martial law.

Per internet sources, 5-6% of Filipinos are Muslims. Most are Sunni. Who is supporting and funding them?
IMO, we should go after the funders, and the hell with the political fallout.
In this case, they're ISIS and therefore are Sunni. I suspect that they're being funded by all of the loot that ISIS amassed when they looted post-war Iraq three ways from Sunday.
However, Muslims, and more particularly the Muslims in Moro Province in the Philippines were a problem for the Spanish before the Spanish-American War. When the war ended in 1898 Suffice it to say that General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing was part of the process as Governor of the troublesome Moro Province between 1909 and 1913. During the Moro Rebellion, the value of the (newly minted at the time) Colt 1911 (.45 ACP) handgun was found to stop Moros who were hopped up narcotics much more effectively than the .38 caliber revolvers that the Army had been carrying. Likewise, the M1 Thompson was found to be an effective brush chopper in that conflict.
In the present instant, we're going against Raqqa, the capitol of ISIS and it will fall. However, if you want to solve the Muslim problem in the Philippines, you have to go far deeper than any American military force is willing to go – you'd need to go Mongol on them and depopulate Mindanao, which is primarily Islamic. There were no Islamic uprisings when the Empire of Japan ran the Philippines.
The US handed the Philippines back to Filipinos in 1946 and it's their own problem now.
Weird, but everywhere there's Muslims everything goes to **it. Same with the Democrats, come to think of it.
The Muslims delight in finding people who befriended them when they had trouble (San Bernardino) and ambushing them. Likewise, they like blowing up little girls or a bus with Christians on it. They lack courage and are the worst sort of cowardly scum. Elite mainstream media shills and their democrat operatives are conniving and lack moral courage or even the smallest modicum of integrity.
25 years ago they got their funding via kidnapping and ransom payments
Yes they did. About that long ago, one of my friends ran the special anti-kidnapping squad out of the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines. A lot of the kidnapping had as much to do with ethnic Chinese living in the P.I. as the Muslims. The Mohammedans were useful tools of the rich Chinese living in Makati.
Vice President Joe Estrada became President, and then he was impeached for corruption — it's the Philippines…
I talked with a friend with some knowledge and he suspect Duterte now will take a different approach and do the same as they did with the Tigers in Sri Lanka. As long as the muslims acted like criminals they where let alone with their business, but after they have become an ISIS affiliation that makes a difference.
Pres Duterte is well versed in Islam because he is from Mindanao. I think that his term in political office will end as so many have before – and he will become obscure.
The Muslims already control Mindanao and are trying to clean out what few other faiths are left.
