In Space, you can’t hear an elf scream!

Elf Scat

Elves wear Red Shirts…

Retro Gift of the Year

Additionally, today is Festivus
…for those of you who are up for feats of strength and a large meatloaf-on-lettuce dinner. Before eating comes the “Airing of Grievances,” an opportunity to tell others how they have disappointed you in the past year. In the spirit of the day, you can write in comments how this blog has disappointed you in 2023.
Christmas is expensive. Festivus, on the other hand, costs no more than a single aluminum pole, meatloaf dinner, a wind-up alarm clock from a thrift store, a bag, and a single nail, which may be why the celebration has withstood the test of time and is still celebrated over 20 years, albeit primarily by “stoned college students and federal prisoners around the country,” says Dan O’Keefe, a writer on Seinfeld who drew from personal experience for the episode.
Dare to Have it ALL at Christmas!

Bullet Points:
** From The Bee.
** Just nuke me first.
** Arizona do’s and don’ts.
** At the White Wolf Mine – things haven’t changed this year.

** In God’s hands, my friends.

For the bonus, what do Aircraft 2&3 have in common (besides being a twin-engine aircraft)? Don’t tell me that they’re night fighters. When you ID them, you’ll get it.

Stolen from Old NFO

Parting Shot

What did they grow in the greenhouses in plane number one?
:)
Identify the Aircraft:
1. Potez 63
2. Icarus Aerospace TAV
3. Ikarus Orkan. ID doesn’t count as when opening as new image to enlarge, name appeared as part of URL.
2&3 both were produced by companies with similar names.
4. Junkers Ju 290
3. Is a TAV/Wasp
Surly nalled them.
Feats of strength!
It’s one of those things you’re supposed to do after you eat the meatloaf.
The Arizona dos and don’ts URL goes to the same Babylon Bee FB page as the first.
Great collection of humor today.
Humor??
:)
ID the aircraft…very thankful for Surly because I’m still fixated on the “ID The Hot Blonde by the CH-53 Super Sea Stallion” (see, I’m learning, well learned ONE). Oh…wait…she’s here cooking breakfast! Heh.
H/t Old NFO, love the Santa Jeppesen chart. But what it all mean to us non-pilots? Heh
WWM merch t-shirt is what we should all aspire, putting the full armor of God, striking fear (if possible) into Satan and his minions (that seem to be openly walking among us.)
Yesterdays pre-storm plow truck water pump replacement adventure went from a 2 hour job (max) to 10 hours as the pump I picked up in Laramie was – I kid you not – bent. ProTIp: Don’t just look in the box, make sure things that are supposed to rotate actually do. Had to run to Cheyenne for the replacement as the transport delivery forgot to include it on the trip. (A comedy of errors apparently, but mostly crapping comm’s.) Lesson learned. At least the repair is complete and ready for incoming snow (which one believes the soothsayers could be 1”-12”, always err on the bigger number as GlobalCoolingClimateWarmingChange keeps them guessing more than they did without the Triple Wizbang Doppler SatNav tech. And green screen mapping.)
Festivus can’t hold a candle to the Danish Lillejuleaften (Little Christmas Eve) celebration; food, beverages, desserts (the best part), and of course happy Danes…which is redundant as it might have something to do with Solbaer Rum and Akvavit. Skaal!
Nothing like that should take 10 hours to remedy, but I do get it. At least with global warming, there will be no more snow, and you can sunbathe on your deck every day. Who wants to pay a weather tax?
Wearing my Speedo and Life is Good t-shirt in case the well-paid forecasters are off target with Gaia’s whimsical machinations.
I won’t gainsay your choice of a banana hammock on Festivus – it may be the most appropriate article of clothing to wear on this auspicious day. HOWEVER, frostbite might take the whole thing if Greta and Al Gore are wrong…and if Global Warming is a hoax. My point is that you’re putting a lot of faith in the teenage daughter of a witch (by self-identification). So if it drops off…well, that would mess up the next two days of raucous celebration. Maybe drink an entire bottle of Akvavit in order to compensate for the loss.
Hey, at least I’m not a Finnish cross country skier with everybody reporting the frosty demise of said “item”. Might have to switch to the Mad Bomber fur-lined Speedo.
Yeah, just to be sure.
My car just got new struts all around. No problems, no tools lost but a four figure hit on the credit card. A few years ago I would have done the job myself and it would have taken only three to four days!
Time or money, usually one or the other. Those things I have my shop do, but this was simple enough (well, first round plan anyway.)
Don’t envy your water pump replacement Paul. Living in the country is definitely worth it but sometimes the logistics are a big pain in the tookus.
May be a one-off but it also may be a sign o’ the times. Funny thing was pulled the old one in about ten minutes (S-Belt moved aside, etc.). Luckily the ’99 Ram 2500 TD has the WP left of center, easy-peasy. Yup bad (considering it had 357K miles). Went inside and bought a new one in Laramie online (Advanced Auto), even got a 20% off coupon. Looking like a huge win. Got it home…dang! Called them, yup Cheyenne has one, it’ll be in Laramie by 2:00. Lunch break. Got there and nope, so drove over to Cheyenne, 52 miles away. Oh well. Guy was very apologetic, probably thought I was gonna launch on him like some dufus in the Mickey-D’s drive thru who got the wrong dipping sauce (what would be the point of that, not his fault. And at 2 days before Christmas? Nah.)
A saga for sure, but successful ending…all one can asked for when things don’t go as expected. Contingencies and flexibility.
Was the impeller bent, or the body? I’ve seen the shafts and the cheesy stamped steel “impellers” get bent, but never the housing.
One of the impeller vanes was bent down into the cast housing recess. Had to have been dropped. Could have bent it back out but what if the shaft seal was damaged. It’s a Carquest quality part, heavier than the original.
No grievances here. I like this place.
Amazon a different story; it would not annoy me too much if their truck fell off the hauler. Some time back, I tried to leave a review for War in the Shadows, but it got kicked back for being hurtful or fattening or maybe my ESG score was not high enough to suit ’em. And the Amazonians won’t let me modify it. C’est la Guerre.
I drove past a UPS 18 wheeler that jackknifed on the freeway and disgorged the Christmas presents/packages it carried all over the landscape. Somebody will be disappointed.
You can leave hateful messages here today, as it’s Festivus. They’re almost required.
Was there a mad collection dash of said packages by the usual suspects that might just end up on ebay?
I didn’t see a flood of inner-city people in the area. However, the truck had just gone over, and the local gendarmerie was not on the scene. A fire engine and a truck arrived with an ambulance. I’m sure that volunteers from the ghetto arrived to help with the clean-up effort. The post-Christmas swap meet will be a bountiful one.
It will be a VERY merry Christmas in the slum.
Mark Rober (Glitter Bomb guy in Cali)…after tracking the stolen bomb daypack (after the thieves systematically busted out the back window of the dummy car) to a building on a side street. The police said the location is a “known fencing operation” (stated some point later in the video), stuff ends up on ebay. Can’t figure why they don’t shut it down.

I was at an actual toy store yesterday. They had a cylinder of wooden spokes and hubs that were probably interchangeable with Tinkertoys, down to the colors of the spokes (funny how you can remember that stuff.
Chemistry kits. Erector sets.
But no Gilbert atomic energy lab like I had a as a kid.
I wonder why.
If you still had the Gilbert Atomic Lab for Boys the Iranians would be calling. Don’t want that.
Trying to recall how many Gilbert “labs” I got as a kid…might explain a lot in my development — “Paull James!!!” (that’s when you knew you were in trouble, middle name used — really dead in trouble was when the confirmation name was added)…”I smell smoke from down there.”…”It’s nothing mom, just the Bunsen burner.” Had tipped it over and the basement floor was on fire. Luckily got it out before she came down the steps.
Knocked over the Bunsen, eh? I was taking apart an old 6V “Hot Shot” dry-cell battery many moons ago, and as I cut the paper shell off, a big brown recluse spider came out. I jumped back about five feet and said “SPIDER!” at full volume. Mom and Dad thought I said “FIRE!”, and knowing me, came down the stairs at about Mach 4.
The Chemistry sets came later….
Laughing over here at that…I swear we’re all bent the same direction. I had the huge chem set, natural progression was I tried to make things “not in the instructions”, even going so far as to add some Estes Rocket engines to the “experiments”. Then I got into electricity…”That’s okay dad, I’ll get the breaker this time.”…as mom was now in the dark trying to cook dinner.
Every child needs an atomic energy home lab.
Like the elf on the shelf memes, may have to steal…err relocate the meme for better utilization…some of them.
Just nuke me first. Looks more and more like Sentinel is just a shrunk Peacekeeper. But what better way to transfer taxpayer dollars to the defense industry. The picture of the guys bolting RVs to the Deployment module is even an old Peacekeeper picture. Probably taken at Textron Defense System in Woburn MA back in the 80s.
It’s appropriate to repurpose elf memes – the gift that keeps on giving.
LOL, good round today, and loved the ‘elf dinner’… Glad to see that approach plate still floating around!
Wait until those aliens find out their “gifts” are disguised crates of C4.
A cousin of mine had the Atomic Energy Lab. I thought the scintillator was amazing.
…claymore mines.
What delicious elf snacks! But I’m a bit surprised at your UNPOLISHED and UNTIED footwear. Surely, RHSM, Stores could be persuaded to provide you with new laces and polish. Of course your batman could do the rest. Slightly confused this hasn’t happened, perhaps the Christmas rush?
Unfortunately, my batman is BATMAN, and when the light hits the clouds, he’s off, leaving me to fend for myself.
