Housekeeping:

I am still having problems with blog hosting. If it drops off-line, it’s not (necessarily) because a bus rolled over me. I’m thinking of getting another domain name and starting over, or in the alternative, just packing in the blog. The hosting is not a hardware/software problem; it’s a human problem, and it’s become difficult to manage. The last time it went down, a couple of weeks ago, a guy was drunk in Asia.

About three years ago, people I knew offered to give the blog a facelift from blogger to WordPress with separate hosting. The blog was incorporated in Wyoming. It went along ok.

There is no income from this blog, as you can easily see. They have no role in it other than managing the hosting, and I pay the bills. The problem today is that they don’t manage the hosting properly, and I don’t have password control of the blog at that level.

Yes, I could do mean things to them, but I don’t want to be that guy. So there you are. It might not go down, but at the moment, I’m not the least bit confident that it will stay live. I will post this blog early because it might drop off the Internet. So, tomorrow’s blog today!

Voter Fraud

“In a recent trio of posts to X, Elon Musk wrote that (1) illegal immigrants “are not prevented from voting in federal elections,” (2) “you don’t need a government-issued ID to vote,” and (3) Democrats “are importing voters.”

To rebut those statements, The New York Times (NYT) published an article by Jim Rutenberg and Kate Conger claiming that Mr. Musk is “spreading election misinformation” about “illegal voting by noncitizens” and echoing a “conspiracy theory” spread by former President Donald Trump.

Although Mr. Musk’s words are imprecise, the gist of his writing is correct, and The NYT is categorically wrong.

In response to Mr. Musk’s first two points, The NYT argues that “federal law requires identification verification from voters when they register.”

The hyperlink in that sentence leads to a document by the liberal Brennan Center for Justice claiming that “new identification requirements” in a 2002 federal voting law “may severely threaten voters’ rights.”

What The NYT fails to reveal is that the Brennan Center document describes the identification requirements in the law, which don’t require government-issued ID or proof of citizenship—just as Mr. Musk wrote.

The document notes that even a “utility bill” or “bank statement” is enough to comply with the law.

The text of the 2002 legislation and the current U.S. election code law confirm this.

Furthermore, a 2013 Supreme Court ruling supports Mr. Musk and contradicts The NYT by explaining that the National Voter Registration Form “does not require documentary evidence of citizenship; rather, it requires only that an applicant swear, under penalty of perjury, that he is a citizen.”

In fact, the court’s 2013 ruling blocked the state of Arizona from requiring “documentary proof of citizenship” to register to vote.

Black History Month

The University of California (San Francisco) is under fire this week after hosting a racist speaker who attacked white people as psychopaths and claimed that black women could be legally raped. A conservative campus group posted clips from the event in which author Dante King lambasted the United States and its institutions as racist and maintaining a white “rape culture.” Imagine if a speaker or professor gave a lecture that called blacks “psychopaths” and responsible for a rape culture. Book Review

They weren’t supposed to cross the border. But they did it anyway. Twice.

L.A. Sheriff’s Homicide Detective Josefina Sanchez cannot turn her back on a former colleague and friend, even though he is suspected of murder and has fled the country.

Jerry Townsend’s wife was gunned down a decade earlier when the couple arrived home from a night on the town and surprised an intruder. With no suspects or even a motive, some of Townsend’s colleagues speculated that he had been part of a scheme to kill her. As rumors of his guilt abounded, Townsend quietly retired from law enforcement and disappeared.

Ten years later, Townsend reached out to Josie for help.

On an unauthorized and clandestine mission to find answers, Josie ventures into Mexico. Her partner, Dickie Jones, warns her against going, convinced that the trip south could leave her career in peril and her life in imminent danger. He is right.

As the truth unravels, Josie is drawn into a tangled web of crooked cops and their cartel connections. Will she make it back alive?

The First Felony is the eighth novel in the highly acclaimed, best-selling, and award-winning Dickie Floyd Detective series. If you enjoy authentic police procedurals written by someone who lived the life, you’ll love this riveting crime series by Danny R. Smith.

Danny worked homicide cases for the Los Angeles County Sheriff around the same time I handled Organized Crime investigations, including murders-for-hire at the Orange County (CA) District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigation. We know all the same people. His books are well-written and are highly recommended.

May be a tough ID. It’s regular military equipment, not a prototype. If you don’t get the name, try the nation.

Parting Shot

A U.S. soldier is standing in a truckload of captured gold recovered from Saddam Hussein’s government in the aftermath of the invasion of Iraq in late 2003.

Although exact numbers are unknown, some estimate that during his 24-year reign, Saddam built a personal fortune as large as $40,000,000,000. Elon Musk would look at that number and say, “Hold my beer.”

      1. Beautiful song…Just Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. The BLT looks perfectly proportioned and is making me hungry. Might have to mix one in with taco Tuesday tomorrow.

  2. So you don’t need to be a citizen to vote, just be willing to swear, under penalty of perjury that you are.

    1. Correct. In Rhode Island, we have motor-voter. In Rhode Island, there is a box that needs to be checked on the application for a private motor-vehicle operator’s license to confirm that you are a US citizen. In Rhode Island, it is against the law to ask for proof of citizenship to verify that checked box.

… and now we’re issuing fake DLs specifically for illegals, that look just like real DLs, too.

Also setting up an illegal “Heroin Bar” at taxpayer expense so the poor Junkies don;t OD too badly. That’s the way things are in Pinkoville, here and nationwide.

  3. Sad to hear about your hosting problems LL. It seems harder and harder to find people that care, about what they do for a living, about having self respect in a job well done, and a host of other things. A symptom of a failing world society that does not give me hope for the future.

Hallelujah. A human voice is a wonderful musical instrument when trained and used correctly, very nice.

Interest to see what Surly or one of the other brilliant commenters has to say about plane number 2. Looks cool and somewhat stealthy if nothing else.

Antarctica. Hmm, didn’t realize there was some much open water, interesting, another rabbit hole to dive down.

BLT. Damn that looks good. Maybe I can just absorb the taste vicariously since I have tried to cut way down on carbs.

  4. Stunning rendition of Hallelujah, and at Red Rocks…who knew. Epic…probably the best I’ve heard, right up there with MrsPaulM’s rewritten lyric version for a Christmas Eve service, got pretty “dusty” in our small ranch country church.

Pretty sweet looking BLT…Gordon Ramsey would approve. Just might have to be on the lunch menu tomorrow.

  5. You do what you need to, but it will be a sad day if/when you stop altogether.
I can’t imagine the amount of work you put into it, though.

Nice song. Thanks for sharing it.

There is no doubt of voter fraud as we know. And no doubt that all the illegals being shoved down our throats will be voting demonrat in the next election.

    Good looking BLT.

  6. Bacon on a sammich. So the other day, in a fit of moral weakness, I stopped at a New Hampshire McDonald’s to get a soda. But it was 6pm, I hadn’t eaten all day, so I got a large Diet Coke, a small(est) fries, and the 2-for-$6 special of a fish burger and the fake Chik-fil-A thing they do. Ordered to go. The order kiosk was out of paper for the receipt that has your order number on it, and I didn’t see the number flash up in the screen because some child literally running laps in the place tore by and nearly bounced off of me — I was distracted ☹️. So I snagged some employee, explained my predicament, and he said “You’re order 31.” Cool. Thanks.

Few minutes later someone shouts “Number 31!” It’s on a tray “for here.” Okay. There’s the fishbuger and the fake Chik-fil-A, fair enough. But there was what I thought was water (turned out to be a medium Sprite), and a double-quarter pounder with bacon. The double was in a greasy box that looked like an oily troglodyte with sausage fingers had handled it. I didn’t order the sprite and didn’t pay for the bacon burger so I called into the back saying, “This isn’t my order.” A big fat guy, that I had never seen, much less interacted with, before came out and snarled, “Oh fer fuh… What is it NOW?” That “now” seemed to imply that I had troubled him previously. I thought for a second and amended my complaint to “may I have a paper bag please?” The angry fat guy glared at me, snatched a paper bag from a pile, thrust it in my direction and muttered some imprecation. I meekly packed up my stuff, plus the bonus bacon/fat burger (that I did not pay for), and beat a retreat to my car.

So, AITAH? (As the they say on Reddit, I think.) Had the bacon fat burger for lunch today. It was good 😋

    1. Rest easy; the McDonald’s staff makes $25/hr to drop your food into grease, fish it out, slap it on a bun, or serve it swimming in grease inside the paper container. So long as you eat it before it cools, it should be ok. Full disclosure: I haven’t eaten at a McDonald’s for over a year. I heard that a Big Mac value meal is $18.00 in some states. (A post on X from July 2023 shared photos of a McDonald’s menu in Darien, Connecticut, where a Big Mac meal cost nearly $18. I’m sure that it’s more now.) McDonald’s revenue has surged beyond initial predictions, with the chain making a whopping $6.69 billion in Q3 of last year. McDonald’s executives have credited “strategic menu price increases” for their high profits. It’s exciting to see that so many Americans can feed a family of five there for barely under $100.00. It means that wages are headed up!

  8. About Antarctica without ice: is that with current sea levels, or a reconstruction from some time in the past?

Since sea levels have been rising for like 10,000 years or more, well, you know. You’ve posted maps of the areas around the English Channel that were dry land during those days.

  11. Can’t remember the names but there are ancient maps showing the coastline of Antarctica without the ice ,maybe chineses .

  12. On legally raping black women , the amount white on black rape is so vanishingly small statistically as to not exist . Black on white rape on the other hand ,,,,well.

  13. Blog issues: this is one of my Must Visit sites, so if it goes away I will definitely miss it. On the other hand, if you decide the hassle isn’t worth your time and effort I can understand that.
