Bullet Points:
** A sad day with the passing of Ray Stevenson at age 58, famous for his role as Pullo in the series Rome.
** “Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent.” ~ Adam Smith
** California is revealing new information to the public that shows that the eco-friendly state is dumping tons of toxic waste in other states every year. Since 2010, California has dumped nearly half of its hazardous waste out of state—mostly in Utah, Arizona, and Nevada—according to the state’s latest figures (pdf). Thirteen more states also have received California’s toxic waste but in much lower quantities. In the past 13 years, the state has dumped 3.7 million tons of hazardous waste in Utah, more than 2.9 million tons in Arizona, and nearly 2.3 million tons in Nevada. – Hypocrisy on display.
** Earlier this week, photos emerged of a protest that male students at Lakeridge High School in Oregon made against the state’s “Menstrual Dignity Act” or 2021’s HB 3294, which required public schools to put female hygiene dispensers in all bathrooms, including the boy’s bathrooms.
** Col. Edward Shames, RIP (h/t Claudio)
** To understand the attitudes of the Russian Federation and Russian peoples towards what they perceive as the antagonism of the West you must go back in history.
After the invasion of Napoleon Bonaparte, the destruction of Moscow, Napoleon’s subsequent defeat, and hundreds of years of conflict with the Ottomans, the Russians believed they were the supreme protectors of Orthodox Christianity against the Protestants, Catholics, and the Muslims with whom they were in almost constant contention. The British and French were more than happy to assist the declining Ottomans in order to contain Russia as a power in Slavic territories in Southeastern Europe and against historic Russian designs on the Bosphorus.
In the middle of the Nineteenth Century, these contentions erupted in the Crimean War. The echoes of that conflict resound in today’s conflict in the region, although now we must add in the modern spirit of independent Ukrainian nationalism which has no affinity for the repressive Communist rule centered in Moscow that caused the untold millions of Ukrainian deaths before WWII.

Identify the Aircraft:
Boeing X-32
Fast AI 3.1
The awfulness of the visual design makes it unforgettable.
X2
That was one of the reasons it was not chosen. Do you think any fighter pilot would want to crawl into the “Frog”?
Or have carved in granite over his eternally resting clay, “Died in a Frog”
I generally like airplanes, even the weird ones.
That thing is just flat-out FUGLY!
I dunno. It looks … happy, somehow.
Looks like a hippo.
It’s right on the tail, man. RIGHT. ON. THE. TAIL!
X-32B.
Geez, LL, try to make it harder for once.
That was easy because the designator is on the vertical stabilizer — plus that joint strike fighter demonstrator is just ugly. Maybe looks is why the F-35 won the compatition.
The skool boyz in Oregon are on the right track, but until they start doing that with the progs in the state legislature not much will change.
Seems the Oregon Boys aren’t quite fully indoctrinated yet and still claim their own minds. Perfect response to the Ninny’s in Charge who think girls can be boys and vice-versa…altho they could have put it in the Principles office, sort of a Godfather move…without the bloody sheets.
They could have used ketchup packets to bloody the individual feminine napkins in the principal’s office…
That would have been considered a hate crime. hahahaaa
Not today. Men were just tossing their bloody tampons around. I can’t help it if it tastes like Heinz.
Lmfao!!!
“Hate crime? All my life I’ve known that I was ketchup-sexual. How dare you judge me? How DARE you!!! Don’t you kink-shame me, you oppressor!”
We can play the victimhood game too. Heh.
I know, just because I need to smear a woman with ketchup to achieve an aroused state I’m victimized. It’s so unfair. Where is my reparations check?
I only take partial responsibility for all of the above, nice additions guys. Heh
No ketchup packets involved (well, none that I know of). However, both of my sons upon becoming high school sophomores, passed on a “rite of passage” as it had been passed on to them. Along with a few of their buddies, they took a pair of whitey-tightie underwear and “decorated” them with brown crayon. In the locker room at the end of P.E. class, they chucked them over the top of the lockers into adjacent aisle, to land among the incoming freshmen.
“the repressive Communist rule centered in Moscow that caused the untold millions of Ukrainian deaths”
No! The Ukrainians clearly did it to themselves. Noticing what was done unto the Ukrainians would lead to other kinds of noticing, and we can’t have that.
RIP Ray Stevenson.
In life imitates the ridiculous, yesterday I was working at home and the dulcet tones of rap came through the walls, audible over the podcast that I was listening to. So I went out the front door to see what was going on. Some jackass in an Acura coupe was across the street one house over with the windows down and driver-side door open, blasting monkey music. I thought “Mike, be a peaceable guy, maybe he’s just getting his stuff in order and then he’ll shut off the noise and go inside.” Gave it literally another minute. Nope, just some whiteboy culturally appropriating the high art of a superior people. I wasn’t wearing pants (I WAS wearing scrub pants which I don’t consider proper garb – wasn’t nekkid) so I didn’t want to step off the porch (either literally or figuratively).
Wiggaboy didn’t hear me shouting “Hey!” and I had to resort to the oikish Britishism of “Oi!” For some reason that cut through the thumping and the grunting. “Oi! You there! Turn it DOWN! Please!” Gotta add the “please” to demonstrate “respect” — especially to those that deserve none. De-escalation and all that. Wiggaboy stuck his head out, saw me, and shut off the noise. Good. Now we shall see if “someone” messes with my car…. The joys of suburban life in 2023. And this is supposedly “a good school district”. Oh, the ridiculous part? I’ve turned into the old man standing on his porch, in his pajamas, shouting at the kids. Sigh.
If you were Clint Eastwood, you’d have stepped off the porch with an M-1 Garand loaded and chambered (Condition One) before you demanded that he turn down the jungle jive.
Here at the White Wolf Mine, the mountain lions raise a ruckus when they’re in season, but I don’t stumble through the moonless forest demanding that they STFU. It’s odd but mountain lions appear to be binary and the woke Federal forest managers haven’t been able to train them to be otherwise. Male mountain lions don’t give birth. There is no reasoning with them.
White Appropriation Societal Punks. You know, their lives matter too, must ask them. Which you’d get the mouth hanging open blank stare and requisite “Huh? Excellent use of Oi!, Jules would be proud.
H/t to LL, appropriate Get off my lawn! You feeling lucky, punk? response.
The Frog sits outside Pax River’s main gate at the NTPS museum. And yes, it IS butt ugly up close too!
Been there to the museum. X-32 is not just ugly, but not even capable of doing VTOL without taking off the movable chin (overweight/underpowered). Wing structure was a single piece with manufacturing issues. Not enough pitch authority, they were going to have to add horizontal tail-planes to improve aerodynamics.
And I thought that the SLUF was ugly…
Wandering Neurons
I rather like the Corsair. :(
The F-8 Crusader was an elegant airframe and like the more exotic Vought XF8U-3 (Crusader III) was a souped-up version of the same with some potential in that timeframe. The LTV A-7 Corsair II (series) was a solid light attack aircraft used by the Navy and USAF.
re Col. Edward Shames
a shammes (or shames) in Yiddish is either a sexton or
the candle in a menorah that is used to light the other candles.
It appears that the latter definition is the one that best describes him.
Yes, a solid leader, patriot, and father. He was there when it counted.
The airplane that out performed the X-35 in every metric until Lockheed bribed themselves up a schedule change…
Russian attitude. There are still folks alive there who remember the sight of Germans tanks rolling through their village.
Enjoyed the DS vid, nice. And the opening photo was inspiring.
But will the WITCH ever be brought to justice, on this earth?
Now, Mole Catchers. My old boss, Michael Chapman Pincher (MCP), had to resign from his commanding eyrie overlooking something to do with railways and fall back to Pershore, which is a beautiful town somewhere in England.
I flew over there a while back and asked him, we were in a field, “Guv’nor, what do you do now?” He paused, “I catch moles.” And so he did, no kidding, it’s a thing. He asked me if I was afraid of the race horses in the newly mole cleared field, which belonged to some retired Major, and I replied, “No, I want to ride one, fast.”
That didn’t happen, but we did find an enjoyable pub. Good man, MCP.
