Happy New Year’s Eve

Blog Post

Should all acquaintances be forgotten, etc?

h/t Frank-the-Tank (WSF)

I don’t know what your plans for the day are. For many in the Western World, it’s a day off work. For those who work, sometimes the place closes early so you can go home and put on your party duds. Not much work gets done in this season outside of retail sales. And now, it’s slashed prices and returns to cope with.

And we’re on the eve of a new year, full of hope.  I hope you don’t spend too long in the mead hall tonight and can emerge in the morning to sit around and do nothing for the entire day.

It does beg the question, “What is the difference between the mead hall and the corpse hall that you are transported to in Valhalla by Valkyries (if you die as a warrior)?” Perhaps it is that you’re drinking the top-shelf product in the corpse hall? Mike_C, who has deep knowledge of the culture, may be better prepared to answer that question. In any event- the new year is upon us.

Bullet Points:

** One eligible US Citizen (non-felon) – with ID – one vote. It’s no more complicated than that. Hand the ballot to the voter once they’ve adequately ID’d themself. I just renewed my AZ driver’s license with the “ID to fly” feature, which required me to provide proof of physical residence. It simply wasn’t that painful. Yes, I also have a passport, federal ID, a Sentri Card, a TSA Card, a Global Entry Card, and other government ID, but that’s not painful either.  No ID, no ballot, no vote. “But my grandma is on a ventilator in the nursing home” doesn’t get you a ballot for her. I’ll bet she needed ID to get into the nursing home.

** The unvaxed were never a threat to society. They were a clear threat to authority.

** The Lunar New Year will usher in the Year of the Snake – on January 29th. You still have time to prepare. Technically, it’s the year of the wood snake.

** In Scotland, Hogmanay lasts for roughly two weeks. It’s the longest-known official national drunken debauch in the Western world at the New Year mark. It’s Scotland, after all. (It doesn’t mean your bender can’t continue past the two-week mark.)

** Japan and Nuclear Energy – Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has released a draft revision of its basic energy plan, removing the statement that the country would reduce its dependence on nuclear power. The revised policy calls for using as much renewable and nuclear energy as possible to achieve decarbonization. It says renewable energy should account for about 40-50% of the country’s power generation mix in fiscal 2040, about double the current level. Nuclear energy should account for around 20% of power production by 2040.”

** Low temperatures reduce battery capacity and range. Capacity is essentially the amount of energy the battery can hold, and how quickly it can discharge it, so recharging will take longer. In extreme cold, the charging points can also be affected, resulting in a considerably slower charging time, so you can expect to spend longer at charging stations during winter. Models with heat pumps and advanced thermal systems perform better, retaining more range than those without. Generally, an EV’s range can drop up to 30 percent in moderate winter weather, with reductions reaching 32 percent in harsher conditions.”

University raghead chique

** “How pitying Palestine and hating Israel became the ultimate luxury belief.” Whatever happened to the sin of cultural appropriation? This ideology of rebuke held sway on university campuses for years. The idea was that no member of the majority group should ever appropriate the cultural habits of a minority group. It’s offensive, apparently. It’s racial theft. It’s a parody disguised as authenticity. White men wearing their hair in dreadlocks, white women in kimonos, gay men twerking or using black slang – all of it was damned as ‘stealing,’ the co-option of the culture of the powerless by the powerful. And yet today, visit any campus in the West, and everywhere you look, you’ll see white youths dressed as Arabs. Keffiyeh chic is all the rage. You’re no one unless you have one of these black-and-white scarves widely worn in the Palestinian territories.

To me, they replaced the Che and Bernie t-shirts. You can replace the Che beret with a rag and feel just as oppressed. The keffiyeh classes seem keen to ‘appropriate’ not only the clothing of the Palestinians but their suffering, too. Witness the organizers of the Gaza encampment at Columbia University in New York City mimicking both Palestinian style and Palestinian privation. One student leader said she and her comrades were hungry and required ‘humanitarian aid.’ Do you want us to die of dehydration and starvation? she asked university bosses. In a viral clip, a group of keffiyeh-wearing students was seen receiving ‘humanitarian aid’ through the college gates. I say humanitarian aid – it was probably a Starbucks order and blueberry muffins from a nearby bodega. Here, we had privileged youths on an Ivy League campus cosplaying as victims of a humanitarian crisis, comfortably off Ivy Leaguers masquerading as the wretched of the Earth.” Victimhood appropriation. The most amusing was elite Jewish students pretending to be suffering Palestinians. They could have dropped a credit card and could have flown to Gaza and offered themselves up to the tender mercies of the barbarians (back before Israel wiped them out) – but chose instead to stay enrolled at Harvard in their prelaw programs.

If they want to send a message, what about dressing up in Lucha libre costumes and masks (right) and assuming the identities of famous Mexican wrestlers in that tradition? Nothing says, “I’m unique and identify with illegal aliens like a fancy outfit with a cape and a mask.” The whole cosplay thing comes into sharper focus. Palestinians are a long way off, and there aren’t that many anymore… but there are 11 million illegal (wetbacks) immigrants in America now awaiting the call from Pres. Trump to return home to Chihuahua (take your dog with you). It could become big in the Ivy League in 2025 as the number of Hamas/Hezbollah decreases.

What’s going on in Denmark?

They used to say, “Live and let live.”

The following information is from Children’s Health Defense.

Advisers to the FDA recently met to discuss the future of children’s respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines. This followed Moderna’s forced halt of its mRNA RSV vaccine trials after alarming data showed higher rates of severe RSV in vaccinated infants compared to those given a placebo. Clinical trial data revealed 12.5% of vaccinated children developed severe RSV disease, compared to just 5% in the placebo group.

These outcomes raised alarms due to past experiences with RSV vaccines. In the 1960s, trials of a formalin-inactivated RSV vaccine led to vaccine-associated enhanced respiratory disease (VAERD), where vaccination worsened illness instead of preventing it. That trial resulted in two toddler deaths and hospitalization for 80% of the vaccinated participants. Despite decades of research, the risks tied to VAERD remain unresolved.

FDA advisers emphasized the “unmet need” for pediatric RSV vaccines, citing RSV as a leading cause of infant hospitalizations in the US annually. Spurred by a projected $13.59 billion global RSV vaccine market by 2030, vaccine makers are developing 26 RSV vaccines or monoclonal antibodies for all age groups.

An FDA representative said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that RSV causes 100-200 infant deaths annually. However, internist Dr. Meryl Nass argued these numbers are overstated. Citing a CDC study analyzing RSV deaths in infants from 2005 to 2016, Nass highlighted that there were 314 deaths in children under age one during that period, averaging 25 per year. Only 17 of those deaths listed RSV as the direct cause, raising questions about the urgency for widespread vaccination.

The FDA explored the potential for sequential administration of RSV monoclonal antibodies and vaccines for infants and toddlers. This approach would begin with monoclonal antibodies or maternal vaccination to provide “passive immunity” — ready-made antibodies to fight RSV. Later, a two- or three-shot course of RSV vaccines would aim to develop “active immunity,” enabling the child’s own immune system to combat the virus in subsequent seasons.

While committee members saw potential in sequential administration, they acknowledged insufficient safety data, fueling concerns that industry profits are prioritized over child safety.

  1. No idea how people can be so ignorant at times especially about history / stupid protests!

It’s a long time since I went to university plus I already had a few years in the army first but 95% of people were there to graduate as quickly as possible. There were no student loans then in Australia. You paid for everything upfront. Also different system where you picked your course and subjects before you applied.

Anyway just on 4 hours to midnight here so Happy New Year to everyone. Public holiday on the 1st here with only a few businesses open.

Busy week next week 900 miles north to see some people for work then catch up with sister and her family.

    1. 900 miles (each way) is a long drive. In my youth, I could just bang it out with stops for fuel and drive-through food. Today, I’m sure there would be a couple sit-down meals and a hotel overnight involved. Such is the softness (or wisdom) of age.

      1. Wisdom…same here as we discovered a 1k trip to Chicagoland – easily hammered out 15 years ago (leave at midnight, be there by 3-ish) – but discovered it takes a day to stop vibrating from the road and sleep deprivation so stop around Omaha for a quick overnight, leaving 6 hours, easy-peasy then and not feeling like ‘hammered whatever’ once arrived…ready to take on the local Portillo’s.

        1. Same here – vibration weirdness. So I stop now, take it easy. Have a nice warm sit down meal, hotel with a shower before moving on. At the 9-10 hour mark, I break up the trip.

  2. IDA:
    1. Marlon Brando in The Young Lions (1958)
    2. Battle of the Bulge (1965) American widescreen epic war film produced in Spain, directed by Ken Annakin and starring Henry Fonda, Robert Shaw, Telly Savalas
    3. “The Deep” (1977)

  3. The civil war in Myanmar is the longest-running armed conflict in the world. The evolving tactics and many moving parts make it difficult to predict what will happen next. Eyewitness testimony alleged that in Rakhine State, “clearance operations” by the Tatmadaw amounted to planned and deliberate mass killings in at least 54 locations. Hundreds and perhaps thousands of Rohingya women and girls were reported to have been raped, including in mass gang rapes, and at least 392 Rohingya villages were burned to the ground. buses against ethnic Rakhine, including forced labor, sexual violence, forced evictions, and killings. Crimes committed by insurgent groups in Kachin State, Rakhine State, and Shan State, including arson, extortion, destruction of property, forced labor, rape, murder, and forced disappearances. The Tatmadaw have been accused of using “scorched earth” tactics against civilians. The accusations include burning down entire villages, planting landmines, using civilians as slave labor, using civilians as minesweepers, and using civilians as sex slaves. So where is the outrage from college campuses? Where’s the demands for basic human rights to be restored? The sad truth is that the war in Gaza is just the flavor of the week or this semester anyways. Most of these Keffiyeh chic wearing wannabe ragheads probably couldn’t even point out Myanmar on a map let alone Gaza. War is hell. Civil war has multiple rings.

    1. X10

I’d hate to say that it couldn’t be worse than 2024. That would be tempting fate.

Compared to one year ago today, the chances are pretty good that 2025 will be better. Last New Year’s Eve, I was 2 days into 12 days in an induced coma in the ICU on a respirator. I blew through my insurance’s deductible in 5-10 minutes into the New Year. It would be another month before I would get home, and ~3 months before the delusions and nightmares faded. It yook 6 months before my mind was close to where it had been at Christmas. But insurance paid damn near all of what ended up close to $750,000 when all was said and done, including paying both me and my wife’s full salaries.

Those 16 days in ICU seemed like several months. So rather like a sojourn in Faërie with the Sidhe, with all the trickery and casual cruelness some of them are capable of. And the false memories of that time were brighter and sharper than many real memories, so I had a couple of months of flashbacks and what can only be described PTSD. If I didn’t have my wife to get back to, I think I’d just as soon die before enduring that again.

2025 ought to be better. Trump and his team will be in office in 3 weeks and I hope they will hit the ground sprinting and put a swift end to crap like this: Every commander should have a full-time, trained gender officer (Naval War College).

      1. Yeah, Larry, that better than last year isn’t a high bar for you to leap, all things considered.

      2. With Canadian health care, I would expect that by day 4 in a coma, they’d havw been suggesting MAID (euthanasia). It would save a lot of money, and they’d offer her a generic anti-depressant and benzodiazepine for a few months. Or offer to euthanize her alongside of me.

      3. Holy crap, but you’ve been through the wringer. Glad to hear you are on the upswing.
If the total cost was $750k then you are now obligated to live at least 15 additional years. (based on 1QALY=$50k)
Just keep that in mind and do not let us down ;-)
        —
        >the Sidhe, with all the trickery and casual cruelness
Huh. Now there’s a mind-picture. I’d not thought of it that way, but we ARE ruled by Fae, aren’t we. Full of trickery and cruelty they are indeed. But without the glamour and the fair-seeming, for the most part. Thinking more on it, I like it. In the Before Times it was a bad idea to name the Fae lest one draw their attention, hence ass-kissing/sarcastic terms like “the fair folk” and “the good people”. Hmmmm. The difference is that I think some of our present-day masters and tormentors are deliberately malicious and not merely heedlessly cruel.

      4. NtL…Geez, praying your mind/body healing continues without a hiccup. Tough ordeal…but…you made it through.

  4. Corpse Hall, Mead Hall. eh.
This is what I wait for, The Return of the King.:
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

    1. Excellent Ed…just started J Vernon McGee’s “Revelation” series… as expected a bit thick but he lays it out more simply as he would. I enjoy his unabashed side note commentary on the state of the [police/reprobate] state…back a few years no less, which are the same perceptions we have today, proving some things never change but do become more openly defiant of God’s prescription.

      1. Ed, just to be on the safe side, have a weapon in your hand when you die… I’d hate to be in the Corpse Hall with Mike_C and HogsbreathSS asking where you were only to have the Valkyries say, “Hellheim – the AK-47 was on the nightstand and you know the rules.”

MikeW is a Buddhist so he’ll be recycled. One and done for me. Beam me up Scotty and all that.

      2. Paul, I have that book. Used it as a reference when our Bible Study studied Revelation.
I’m gonna email you an MP3 about Rev 12 that I’m listening to coincidentally as I type.

    2. I, on the other hand, do not want The King to return, nor do I want the Rapture or the Four Horsemen to ride, nor the AntiChrist to be born nor all of that. For all the faults in this world, there’s still a lot going for it. Do not want the dark End Times to happen during my lifetime. Not at all. Nope. Postpone it, please, for at least a while, please.

      1. I would at least like to finish my woodworking shop beforehand and enjoy it for a little while, but I only get one vote, assuming I even get that.

        1. You do get a vote, as it’s that whole ‘Free Will’ thingy that He gave us.
          –
The more that swing things for the ‘Good,’ the more the ‘Evil’ will not take over. And considering the last 4 years, I think the ‘Good’ is ascending over the ‘Evil,’ well, as long as the nukes stay safely bedded down.

      1. Back right after The Castro kicked the bucket, some self-centered douche-knob college student wore his/her/it’s CHE! t-shirt to the middle of Little Havana in Miami. And got the crap beat out of its non-gender self and released a lot of its gender fluidity.
        –
Still pert near a near-death experience to be caught with a CHE! shirt, even one of the Dead CHE! shirts if they don’t notice that it’s a parody. Long memories and lots of bad feelings still down there in South Florida.

  5. in re “One eligible US Citizen (non-felon) – with ID – one vote”
I knew of a situation in NYC when a dentist’s “front-desk-person” (a — hire) emptied his business bank account after working for him for a year or so. With great regret, after being unable to reach the individual for an explanation, he reported this “misadventure” to the police who found that she also had three other different/separate, but “valid” identities.
It was discovered that this person was not only collecting a more than reasonable salary from the dentist, but three monthly benfit checks under these three separate names for many years.
The DA decided not to prosecute her for any of these crimes; the dentist received payment-in-full under his insurance policy many months later.
Voting? After all, it’s NYC when all’s said n’ done.

    1. As the father of a convicted felon, one who was definitely guilty and served his time and is an employed, tax paying, home owning citizen who votes conservative, I believe that once you have paid that debt to society you should get full restoration of ALL rights, including 2A.

      1. Agreed…this lifetime scarlet letter lawfare thing is to keep you “in the system”, as I have recently observed the legal/”justice”/prison system (while certainly needed) is a massive business unto itself, and maybe – other than congress – the only other perpetual motion machine in existance.

      2. 1. I would never argue that situation with you
        2. what I’m trying to point out is that this woman, forget her crimes and lack of punishment for the moment , has four(4) “valid, state-supplied” identities under which she can vote.
I think (and I’m not entirely 100% certain) that the only way to “enforce?” a one person/one vote system is either by a computer-connected fingerprint system or an indelible dye (one that cannot wash off for three weeks) on the middle finger of the right hand just prior to pulling the lever.

      3. Personally, I could get on board with that. Once probationary period is over, and if they’ve kept their nose clean, certainly restoration of voting rights. For *violent* offenders, I’ve no problem with them having a gun in the home, and a rifle or shotgun when hunting. I’m not so sure about concealed carry, or at least permitless carry. At least not immediately. I think I’d prefer them to have the few hours of instruction on the relevant laws of their state, plus safe handling of pistols and revolvers. I guess my problem is mostly with states that are progressive utopias that let violent criminals out way early and declare they’re good to go. Those individuals haven’t come close to “paying their debt”. I don’t care for that phrase, really. I don’t know what would be better. “Reaping the full consequences of their actions”?

        1. Ed, the restoration of rights shouldn’t be automatic. Maybe a period of X years after they’re off parole. They paid their debt, yes, but recidivism rates are very high.

      4. If the released felon has actually changed for the better, I have no problem with said ex-felon having all rights restored.
        –
Unfortunately, too many ex-felons are like Ex Meth Mom in my apartment complex. Caught with felony weight meth, released on parole, caught with felony weight meth, put on probation, caught with felony weight again, had her kid removed from unsafe house, sent to jail, violated with meth in jail, released on probation, offended again, finally released, popped with meth and pot in blood 5 times while on probation after spending 6 months in jail, sent again to jail, released on probation, violated over and over and finally the court was so sick of her they just dropped all the charges. Years later, Florida enacted voting rights for ex-felons and she fell outside the parameters because she, unlike your son, was and is an irresponsible twatwaffle.
        –
Sure, if Ex Meth Mom cleaned up her act and stayed clean for 5 years or more, yeah, maybe I’d support her getting her rights back. Once she’s proven that she is a citizen, not a once-and-future felon.

        1. As to how I found out about Ex Meth Mom, well, for some reason all the active and retired prostitutes and female drug users in my area all seem to want to chat me up. Even got a few offers to do The Thing, especially once they found I was married. Rather cover my hand in ghost pepper oil and do the thing than let one of those walking scum factories get anywhere near my crank, if you know what I mean.

          1. Not your typical neighbor I presume…but see…that’s the thing…you or I get too many parking tickets and the DA gets involved with 42 charges stacked on top of each other (another aspect of lawfare I’ll never understand), while real criminals get released left and right “because…oppressed” coupled to Liberal misplaced compassion. Show up in front of a judge over something…anything…and it’s about keeping you – Mr. Decent Citizen who had an accident – in the system. But criminals? Ahh, not so much (truly innocent J6 wanderers who weren’t on a sanctioned/scheduled guided tour are the prime example).

          2. And there’s very much that. Actual Criminals know to plea down the charges and then know they can pile enough violations on top of violations that the judicial system will get tired of them and cancel everything out and start the whole cycle over again.
            –
Actual innocent people are at a disadvantage because they don’t have a huge criminal history so even plea bargaining down to misdemeanors still will leave criminal charges on their records. Charges that their employers can and will use against them. Charges that their ex-spouses will use against them. Charges that the local constabulary and judicial system will use against them.
            –
Actually had an employer get one of their pet monkeys to bring up criminal charges against me. Which, since I was innocent, I fought. Took a whole year and finding out that the prosecutor jacked up the charges to include Hate Crimes because I was known as a racist or something (no, I’m not. Bigoted? Yes, very. I prejudge actions based on clothing, vehicle, walk, the way one talks, yada yada yada. But not racist.) Took the jury longer to choose a foreman than it took to find me not guilty of all charges. A friggin year. Of going to court every month and finding out the prosecution was delaying it yet again. Of missing one court date because my wife was sick as a dog and them filing ‘failure to appear’ charges on me at 4:58PM on a Friday and having the Sheriff show up at 6:30AM on the following Sunday to take me in, and then having the notice of violation show up at my house on the following Tuesday. All because my employer thought they could easily get rid of me due to criminal charges, which suspiciously kept getting worse and worse the more I refused a plea deal, which would have resulted in my termination.
            –
Did not find out about my employer being behind the criminal charges until they finally fired me because… they didn’t like me. Jerks. And then they got jammed up bigly over some Federal funds that I was keeping straight and nobody else was. Payback’s an intact female dog of breeding age.
            –
The system, especially in full Lawfare mode, is designed to punish the innocent and to pander to the guilty.

  6. “Live and Let Die”
    I just don’t understand why – –
those explosions of actinic activity during the resounding brass blares remind me of my college/fraternity days: lighting the loud expulsions of intestinal gasses
    as for the singing/vocalization – –

    1. Any of the halls in Asgard. Thor’s hall isn’t as well known but he’s noted for having better food than Valhalla.

    1. The Dane’s do like to have fun…enjoyed re-hearing that rendition….’wuhwahwah”. (come to think of it, “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” and its implied “elimination” might be a needed DC metaphor in 2025)

  7. “ID” – That’s because you’re not on US soil illegally, so you are the one getting harassed to prove your citizenship. Weird tortured logic and demented thinking…but see 3rd comment below. I’ll do whatever o avoid flying..altho seems a bunch of planes are running into each other or off runways…not a good statement for the FAA, then again, it is a government agency so likely “officials” are working from home instead of actual airports. “Sloppy” doesn’t begin to describe air travel these days…so Ill drive (with a stay-over if beyond 600 miles…don’t want to wear myself out…plus Continental Breakfast!).
    ***
Any mother who vaccinated their infant for Covid…well…I’ll leave it at that other than to say they now have to deal with a DNA manipulated child. ‘Trust but verify’ seems to be lost on far too many people who have been indoctrinated so much they blindly follow whatever garbage the government spews/demands, starting with the so-called food pyramid. Government needs to be reduced by [minimally] half, start with every worker not showing up to the office.
    ***
The Danes, having decided immigration of those who wish to take advantage of their social net are not allowed in and some should be removed, are – as they have always been – employing their unique Viking Spirit brand of “live and let live”. Fitting music for the new year LL…well picked!
    ***
“The Deep” provided many a young male plenty of visuals. Watched it a year or so back…guessing I’ve gotten more seasoned (matured? not really) since first watch…but hey, it was 1977. How many picked up scuba because of it tho?
    ***
“…it’s the year of the wood snake” – More metaphors and double entendres in those 7 words. Is that a precursor for what we are to expect in 2025? Me, negative people are out (not tolerating it). Frustration (yeah, even ordained dudes get frustrated) over things I cannot control…are out. Complaining…same as frustration…out. Trying to control everything in my purvey…because…Murphy happens. That’s out. My personal happiness is paramount…which starts with diving further into The Word and heading to the Shop first thing with a good steaming hot cup o’ Joe…books-n-bills and other household stuff can wait a little…all about balancing the chi for me, and helping others, but not ones detriment as my wise father would admonish (“you’re no good to God exhausted or dead” he’d remind).
    ***
Here’s hoping all have a terrific New Year…and…NO One plays Auld Lang Syne…what a durge of a tune (what does one expect from The Motherland). Maybe sounds better when over-imbibing at Midnight, which MrsPaulM and I will never make so the plan is to celebrate with The Danes at 4pm MST…SKAAL!

  8. My college years are decades old but what I see today hasn’t changed. All these protests are a way to get laid.
After a few hours of shouting, “Ho, ho, Ho Chi Minh and Hell No, We won’t go”, it was off to an apartment to show disdain for society norms by having sex.
While keeping my political views private, I was an enthusiastic volunteer for the sexual revolution.

      1. As a vet who did his enlistment in Germany I listened to career NCOs. To a man, they opposed sending draftees to Vietnam. The Army sent a plane load of us to Plekiue for five weeks to string barbed and razor wire. We saw maybe four Vietnamese and scores of f**king macaques. Built the wire and then flew back to Germany.
My anti-war bias was simple. Either fight the war for real or get the f**k out. Haven’t changes that opinion about any of the cluster f**k wars we’ve sent our people into harms way since Vietnam.

  9. >Mike_C, who has deep knowledge of the culture, may be better prepared to answer that question
I appreciate the vote of confidence but sadly I don’t deserve it. I’m still confused by some of the chosen dead going to Odin and others to Freya. How does the selection/division get made? Is Freya’s hall Sessrumnir a physically distinct, separate building in Folkvangr, or is it a kenning for something else, possibly even Valhalla itself? For that matter, is Freya distinct from Frigg?

    1. I think that once you’re in place, you may be able to choose based on experiential criteria.

    2. I think the bigger question is do you get to go to those Norwegian sounding places if yer not Norwegian, or a close cousin (Danish)? With my Heinz 57 ancestry I’m banking on some Norwegian in there somewhere (the cool part of my personality…which would be the smallest bit…but, like Faucahontas 1/10000 is a pretty low threshold).

      1. I think I’m covered. To wit:

As to Freya: “Some said that she selected those who were motivated to fight out of love, not professional warriors but men who shed their blood to keep their dear ones safe. Freya took her chosen ones to her beautiful field, Folkvangr, wherein stood her hall Sessrúmnir, the Many-Seated. Here they would live with their beloved, it was said, and love, not combat, was the order of the day.” That was cribbed from a novel, but it doesn’t jive with the general statement that half of the battle-dead were chosen for Valhalla and the other half to Freya’s hall.

There is a school of thought that Sessrúmnir is a kenning [1] for Valhalla, and they are the same thing. This makes sense if Frigg (Odin’s wife) and Freya are the same entity, in the sense that a wife’s house is the same as her husband’s house, so Valhalla and Sessrúmnir are different names for the same thing.

[1] kenning = a poetic turn of phrase used to denote a thing, essentially a sort of alias. For example, “take the sea road” meaning “to go by ship”. Yggdrasil (the Worlds Tree) appears to be a kenning meaning “Odin’s horse” which itself is an allusion to a gallows being called the “horse of the hanged”. Odin sacrificed himself (to himself, to gain wisdom) by hanging from Yggdrasil for nine days and nights.

  10. There’s a lot going on in this post, not least our final/hall destination. Speaking of which, I’ve never much liked mead, oddly, even on Lindisfarne (!) where you’d think it’d be golden.

Regardless, all best for the New Year. (the Dallas crew send their love)

    1. have you ever tried Viking’s Blood which is a melomel (mead with fruit) with cherries
the one my niece brought me from upstate NY (many moons ago) was a reddish-gold made with the tart Amarelle cherry
She also brought bottles of Sima (mead made with lemons and raisins) and Bibemel (mead made with blueberries – my favorite)
Unfortunately the people who “crafted” these are no longer in business to the best of my knowledge

    2. Mead, like Wine, has varied textures and flavors.
      –
Me, I like a sweet dry mead made from clover honey. It’s good stuff. It’s more like a Reisling than some cloying ‘desert wine.’

  11. Carter is at least taking his ‘love’ of Hamas and Palestine to the grave. He is at least partially to blame for what we are seeing today in the higher education system.

    1. At least partially? He pushed HARD for the formation of the Department of Education. That abortion of a government agency sits squarely on his lap.

And Dimmeh Jimmeh never met a socialist dictatorship that he didn’t happily fellate.

  12. Florida was one of the first states to adopt the REAL-ID requirements.
    –
Curiously, Florida also requires valid state id to vote.
    –
Even more curiously, overall, Florida has even cleaned up scumbag cheating counties like Broward County by requiring valid state id that meets the REAL-ID requirements to vote.
    –
So, yes, want to vote? Must be a Citizen and prove it with a REAL-ID requirement id. Or, well, sod off.

    1. Funny how We The People want voter ID(beyond some lame power bill verification) yet Dems demand zero voter ID…many on our side thought not voting in the last election was the better approach, stick it ‘em as it were, but ultimately…thankfully…were convinced TO vote otherwise you hand the win to the enemy without a fight.

      1. I got the feeling that a lot of the missing actual Dem voters that Kamala didn’t get actually voted for Trump. And the amount they could steal just brought up their numbers to a normal level, which means She actually lost much more bigly than we think She did.
