Where do I see myself in a year? I don’t know. I don’t have 2020 vision. I will toss the runes though. Welcome to the Sunday Sermonette.
The race for 5G dominance in the world between China and the US will continue as we enter the (new) Roaring Twenties. The economics of tariffs and trade will likewise be huge as BREXIT moves forward and new treaties between the US and Great Britain will be written. It will be a huge and dynamic opportunity for both nations. The US economic engine under President Trump should continue to roar and that’s good for the nation and the world – perhaps except for China.
The US will finally end the War in Afghanistan after trillions of treasure and buckets of blood have been spilled with a far less than ideal outcome. President Trump has no interest in foreign military adventures to fill the coffers of the military industrial complex and the deep state. And with the good potential of another Trump victory, they’ll just have to content themselves with a trillion dollar military budget.
The War in Afghanistan, code named Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, followed the United States invasion of Afghanistan of 7 October 2001. Did the war in Afghanistan make America any safer? There are arguments that jihadis showed up there from all over the globe to be killed by American munitions, but it’s a very thin reason for a war in that place. Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, protected by American allies there… One thing is certain. A lot of beltway bandits made hundreds of billions. And a lot of Americans were killed and injured (including my son-in-law).
Absent one of them dying between now and then, which is not out of the question, the Donkey race for the White House will boil down to corrupt old Joe Biden (who’d be 78 when sworn into office) and that old communist, Bernie Sanders (who’d be 79 when sworn into office), despite the Party’s complete disdain for old people, millionaires, white people and men. Riddle me that one. Lizzy Warren’s lies and her outlandish plans for America is sinking her before the first primary. The Butt Guy is doing well in early polling but America isn’t ready for a President Butt Guy. Yang is considered by the Party to be too white (it’s true). Hillary could show up at the Donkey Convention, offering to save them from themselves, maybe after both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders commit suicide?
The Second Amendment and the situation in Virginia will be writ large across the American landscape in 2020 as the collectivists with a very different vision of the future of the nation work to dilute and diminish the capacity for Americans to keep and bear arms.
“If the legislature decides to restrict certain weapons I feel harms our community, I will swear in thousands of auxiliary deputies in Culpeper,” Culpepper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins, who was just re-elected for a third term in office, said. “There’s no limit to the number of people I can swear in.”
Free people are armed. Slaves never are.
Manned Spaceflight may become more normal again in 2020 as America re-enters the high ground. The cold, dismal, 8 years of Obamanation are past (when one of NASA’s taxpayer-funded missions was to try to make Muslims feel good about themselves) and it’s taken some effort to regain what we’ve lost, but America is back, greater than ever, with some amazing technology. I, for one, eagerly anticipate the movement back into space.
USAF Holiday (WW2)
flash concert. I haven’t heard any word as to whether or not there will be a US Space Force band. Maybe they’re not thinking that far forward into the future?
After 8 years of 'fundamentally changing America' into a third world banana republic (thanks for that, Barry), the 'Roaring 20's 2.0' should turn back every one of Barry's disastrous policies and get us back on track, and 'make America Great again.' Those words kinda roll off the lips, maybe I should do something with them, but I digress…
"America was never great." Or so says Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) who wouldn't know great from mediocre, or even piss poor. Wrongo, oh so wrong, Andy.
And a lot of Americans were killed and injured (including my son-in-law).
And my youngest son.
Almost all signs are positive. President Trump, if he stays alive, will be re-elected. What is looming in the background is astronomical debt, worldwide. How long will prosperity last on borrowed money?
In Virginia the (P)regressives seem to be doubling down on stupid. Maybe they think they now have the upper hand and now is the time for them to advance their agenda. Now or never?
God willing, the best years are to come.
Interesting thing about Trump and Afghanistan. He's interviewed senior enlisted personnel to get the 'real' picture of what's going on.
I'm pretty sure the issue of the restrictive ROE has come up, along with all the other administrative boondogles that have restricted our personnel from achieving goals has come up.
It will be interesting to see how much change Trump will be allowed to achieve in the next 5 years.
I was all for going into Afghanistan in 2001 to smash and capture as much of Al Qaeda as possible, and topple the Taliban and kill as many of them as we could for sheltering Al Qaeda. If we could kill or capture Bin Laden, all the better. But sending in Big Green was a mistake. What the CIA and Northern Alliance was accomplishing was pitch perfect. What SOF teams could do in support, especially to snatch and grab high value targets, or failing that, direct overwhelming aerial bombardment with an eye towards annihilation, would have been useful. A small punitive expedition mostly using local forces backed up by CIA, SOF, and bombers is what I argued for in my circle of friends and family. Followed by a warning, "Don't make us come back and do it again — we'll be more destructive and indiscriminate next time." Nation building was a fool's errand.
Forwarded from my wife–
You've heard of "Elf on a shelf"?
Get ready for "Bernie on a gurney".
I'd very much like to see us get back into space. As Heinlein once said, "The Earth is just too small and fragile a basket for the human race to keep all its eggs in it."
"I don't have 2020 vision."
Good pun, LL.
Thanks for the post.

Happy days are here again.
You're 100% on track. But you're name is "Larry" and I had certain expectations of you, which were totally vindicated.
I might just be in love with your wife's wit.
The Virginia progs should leave well enough alone, as should Bloomie and Soros, but it's not in their nature to do that. They'll push the effort to disarm America and America will push back with a US Supreme Court that is likely to uphold the rights of patriots. If Hillary and her flying monkeys had won, then maybe.
Now it just stirs up the hornets nest and we win. Even if the local sheriffs have to deputize every single patriot in the state.
We live in hope, with a heavy dose of prayer, LindaG
Yes, that is interesting, isn't it. The senior enlisted tell him the truth so that he knows how best to deal with the situation. The Generals lie…and have been lying about Afghanistan ever since Big Army rolled into town.
Heinlein was right, as usual. But it's a long road out of this gravity well.
;^)
Why would Joe and Bernie kill themsel…. Oh. Never mind.
Remorse over taking a slot that they knew in their wicked, black, hearts, belonged to Hillary.
Excellent postings over the past few days.
Only God can see around corners, however I will toss my non-crystal ball thinking into the mix.
I agree with you that HRC may swoop in on her Nimbus 2020 right before Iowa, cackling as she does, to save the party from their massive cliff dive from a non-survivable height.
The heat is on for Biden and Biden Jr., Sanders is a spittle spewing kook (albeit a very dangerous one), "Angry Bird" Warren is tanking and resorting to begging for cash, Mayor Pete is more moronic than ever (this guy as president would hang a rainbow flag at the WH)…and the list goes on. Tulsi is the lone semi-rational one but is as dangerous to our nation let alone doesn't have a snowballs chance.
Deaths are hard to predict, but if HRC gets in as many suspect, her competition may decide to retire, plus, RBG has to be on life support in some catacomb (like in the movie "Dave") to keep Trump from another conservative SCOTUS appointment. It's all so predictable when the subversives prove they have nothing of substance.
By all appearances Pelosi and her Comrades will once again burp up the Russian collusion bile and force it all down everyone else's throats. The woman is mental. But we do have plenty of ammo to fire back, deflecting their flaming arrow over the wall attempts at doing nothing while putting on yet another vacuous chaotic show and tell.
Looking at Virginia, the Gov'nr is as expected, showing his putrid underbelly. Who bought off this clown after they got him elected? Curious why the citizens of "Sic Semper Tyrannis", despite their most excellent uprising against said Gov. Little Dictator, haven't recalled this nimrod?
Love the idea of a "Space Force Band"…wonder what what instruments they'll play?
Skipping down to the bottom of the list, not because the top isn't good, but I wanted to respond to the Space Force Band's instruments. If you look at the historical records – youtube.com/watch?v=g6PDcBhODqo – it's heavy on woodwinds.
Ifn you go by Heinlein's 'Starship Troopers' there will be skeletonized electronic versions of actual instruments. Which we already have in existence, such as electronic drum kits, electric violins and such.
But… gotta have the Bagpipes, full sized, for outdoor performances. Maybe uillean pipes for indoors and aboard spaceships.
I agree, there must be a place for the sweet, soothing, music of the pipes.
I didn't know our President was doing that. But considering he's a roll up your sleeves and get it DONE type, it shouldn't surprise me.
The Guys (and Gals) in the trenches know what's going on, they trust and respect our President, and know they can speak candidly to him as they believe he has the best interests of America in mind.
Every successful manager I've worked for kept in close contact with us "underlings" and listened to us because we knew what was really going on.
And it works!
Skipping my bloviation is good – a semi-lucid moment with tongue-in-cheek tossed in for good measure (not that I don't believe what I said.)
Uillean pipes…good call as they are a must, adds that ethereal mystical Celtic vibe that fits the Final Frontier (do I hear the iconic Star Trek theme playing in the background? "Space Force" vs. Star Fleet…sounds kinda similar.)
