Suicide Clubs
Brigadier-General Sir James Edmonds wrote about preparations for the Battle of the Somme in his unpublished memoir.
“There was one 6-inch howitzer to about 45 yards of front, the French had one for every 20 yards; and, worse still, much of the howitzer ammunition supplied by the Ministry of Munitions (under Mr. Lloyd George) was defective, resulting not only in “duds”, as I was able to verify when I walked over the field, but also in “prematures” (bursts in the howitzer), so that the gun crews came, as the Official History states, to be called “suicide clubs”. To shift the blame, L.G. said I repeat, that the Royal Artillery “did not know how to use the perfect ammunition with which he had supplied them.”
Complete Rainbow
The Real Rainbow … the photo was taken at around 30k ft above the Earth. On the ground, we usually only see the arc half of the circle.
The Grand Order of Muskies
There are many “Shellbacks”, “Blue Noses” and “Golden Dragons” but perhaps the rarest Navy certificate is the “Grand Order of Muskies”. It can only be earned by submariners who have submerged in all 5 Great Lakes. The crew of USS Corsair accomplished the feat in 1959.

The real rainbow photograph is stunning. However, where might one find the pot of gold in this instance?
At the end of the inter-dimensional portal?
I’m afraid that you’re going to travel through space-time Jules. Bring the wolves along. You never know what is guarding the gold.
That’s a Central Bank Rainbow … the pot of gold is at the end.
Man, now that’s a Star Gate.
Saudi Arabia’s grand irrigation project. The problem is when you use up all of the available water, you are back to herding goats. If only there was a way to desalinate salt water and applying it without ruining the soil. I was unaware that the center pivot has only been around since 1948.
I haven’t watched the video yet, but you mentioned 1948 which might confirm my guess that they learned it from the Israelis.
Nuclear power applied to desalination.
That’s a British Comet tank, late WW2 vintage.
Yes, it is!
I know them because South Africa had a few, and used them as training tanks in the 1960’s and 1970’s (their “frontline” tanks were Centurions, successors to the Comet, heavily upgraded in the 1980’s into the “Olifant” (“Elephant”). The old Comets were retired, except for a few that were converted into armored engineering and recovery vehicles. They can still be seen in SA museums.

The rainbow may be my new screen saver, breathtaking.
Loyd George. Typical successful politician; shifts the blame to someone else.
Successful criminals do the same thing, though in this case, we may be speaking of the same group.
Wonder if LG was asked to give a demonstration of the correct way to use that ‘perfect’ ammo?
Likely not. Though I’m sure that many thought of making the request.

I’d love to see a Virginia Class go up the Detroit River.
Ya gotta ask why, though.
How many Russkie or CCP vessels lurk in the Great Lakes?
You won’t know until you look… then the question will be ‘how did they get though all the locks?’ 🙂
10% to the Big Guy gets you access.
Treaty agreements after we beat the British on the Great Lakes prevent that.
Well… Watching Canada become a ChiCom territory…
We had bad torps, they had bad ammo… Sigh… How many died because of that?
