A few notes for the holiday – a pause for the cause.

Today we celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of the first Thanksgiving as it was celebrated by the Pilgrims, who arrived a year earlier on November 11, 1620, on the Mayflower.

102 passengers came as families to set up a society of self-government with the freedom to practice their own religion without fear of persecution from the English government or its church.

Blown off course, the Mayflower arrived in what is now Provincetown Harbor, where 41 men signed the Mayflower Compact, a covenant of self-rule that birthed American liberty.  A precursor to the U.S. Constitution, the Compact was essentially the cornerstone of self-government under God which has made America unique among nations.

From there the ship sailed on to modern-day Plymouth, Massachusetts, where they founded the Plymouth Colony in the middle of December. Of the original 102 passengers, only 52 survived, including four women and their first elected governor of the colony, John Carver.

In early spring 1621, the Pilgrims entered into a treaty with the Wampanoag Indian tribe’s leader, Massasoit.  Squanto, a member of the Patuxet band of the Wampanoag tribe, had been captured by earlier settlers but freed by Catholic friars and taken to England, where he learned to speak English.  He became an interpreter on an English ship in 1618 and returned to the New World, where he taught the Pilgrims how to grow crops in the hard, rocky New England soil.

Sometime in the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims, together with Massasoit and 90 members of his tribe, held a three-day harvest festival of thanksgiving, feasting, and entertainment with athletic events of shooting, foot races, wrestling, and bow and arrow.  Their Indian friends provided much of the food.

Turkeys are mean…

If you have leftists in your family and if they decide to join you for Thanksgiving or some other holiday meal and they start spouting. off about Jo/Ho, ask them, “If you are supposed to be the underdogs and the revolutionaries, then why is it that all of the evil money and power elites are on your side?”

“Why are all the people you say you are fighting against giving you billions of dollars and enforcing your political will?”

“Is it possible that corporatists, globalists, and you leftists are all part of the same machine?”

They will deflect and obfuscate but you can’t be in league with Wall Street power brokers, the Davos EuroElite trash, and be a ‘revolutionary’.

When you visit for Thanksgiving, you have to get the yams you brought out of the rig.

  1. The tank looks like a T-10, or at least the hull does. IDK what happened to the turret and main gun – the turret looks squished and the gun much too small.

The SP-ARTY looks like the old Soviet 16″ atomic cannon, can’t remember what that was called.

The third …thing… looks like somebody stuck a BRDM, a T-60 and an MTLB into a blender. No idea.

    -Kle.

    P.S. – happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Tank: Object 757 experimental heavy tank based on IS-3M and armed with gun-launched Kobra missiles
Artillery: perhaps the 2B1 Oka 420mm gun
AFV: I found a couple of other pictures of this but no designation other than half tank. 🙁

  3. Ah yes, turkeys. Guess what, there AREN’T ANY HERE. No kidding, not a single turkey, anywhere.

Not a big deal, we can pound the mahogany over a different kind of bird. But still, thanks a lot, Mr. Lesco Brandon.

  4. And don’t forget, the original pilgrims were God-fearing socialists/communists, which is one of the major reasons they all almost achieved good communist/socialist status.

Totally a series of complete screwups and yet they managed to (barely) survive. Can’t see the self-entitled pan-sexual fluid-gender lunatics of today being able to handle even the sea voyage, let alone the first winter.

    • After two years of living under communism, only a few of the original Plymouth colonists were still alive. By 1626, to avoid extinction of the colony and provide a solution for repayment to their investors, a new system with private property rights and the right to keep one’s production — free enterprise — was implemented by Governor William Bradford, one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact and the second elected governor of the colony. Each family was assigned personal plots of farmland according to family size, and the common storehouse was abolished. Immediately, men and women returned to the harvest fields and produced a large harvest.

Gradually, the communal system gave way to private property rights. The concept of the family farm grew out of combining personal responsibility with private property rights. It was the tradition of the independent small farmer that heavily influenced the political philosophy of Thomas Jefferson. The superiority of individual responsibility for that of government about the best use of the land became a fundamental principle of 18th- and 19th-century American life and the American dream.

400 Years Later, Slow Jo, Ho, and the American elite are trying to create communism again, because that is the path to absolute power by those who consider themselves to be our betters.

      • What’s that poster with the lone mountain goat on a narrow ledge saying to himself “I’m so far behind I think I’m first.”

Initially I thought this latest destroy America chaos crowd was entirely planned and purposeful, but now I believe it is more along the lines of these people truly believe they are smarter and better than the peons, and act accordingly. For them being fakes and morons without a scintilla of historical knowledge our Founders determined critical for governance, doesn’t dissuade them one bit. That mode has worked for them their entire lives so they continue unabated as if they are the smartest people on the planet.

The thing is they are mostly idiots and unwise people who are paper thin and stupid who somehow managed to worm their way into power, which only adds to their hubris. These people used to complain about authority, now they have the reigns and have taken incompetency to an art form.

There will be a reckoning as their amateur hour operation crumbles.

          • Satan’s despicable minions seem to be an ever growing group, the rest are (h/t El Rushbo) mind-numbed robots who believe everything the CNN spewers say with convincing confidence to yearning itchy ears. The past two years has exposed their naked-ness for all to see.

I try to avoid both groups whenever possible…if one engages me I may let loose my pent up anger over their destructive behavior on them.

“But officer, there I was minding my own business in aisle 12 trying to decide whether to get the family size Nacho Cheese Doritos or the regular, when this idiot came up to me yelling in my face and wouldn’t stop. It was self preservation.”

“I see, well in that case, give me a hand unfolding him from the shopping cart.”

  5. Yes the pilgrim colony lost 50%or so the first winter. When the governor tore up the compact and handed private property to individuals, they created a surplus. Capitalism and private property , works every where and every time it’s tried.
Maybe we should try it here.

    • When I was a kid in the 70s, I remember reading a library book about life in the Soviet Union (I’m sure they’ve burned that book since then!)
One chapter talked about farming in the USSR and what a disaster the centrally-run collective farms were. It also talked about the private plots the Soviets let their citizens have, where the citizen could keep what he grew for himself. I think the estimates were that somewhere around 50% of the Soviet food supply actually came from these private plots rather than their big collective farms. People seem to work harder and care more when they’re working for themselves, who knew?

  6. Ted Doty, a real smhat bastid, former three letter agency (whose name shall not be spoken) geek, collector of bad dad jokes, and a refugee from the environs of DC who posts at https://borepatch.blogspot.com/ had an ancestor on the Mayflower.
He was the beginning of the American Doty tradition of being…well, shall we say recalcitrant?
He and another member of the colony were involved in a knife fight in which the Doty clan’s forebearer stabbed the his opponent.
Both were thrown into the stocks (not the Wall Street variety).
Ted relates that his beloved ancestor was such a whiner and general pain in the fanny that he was released after a few days and not required to complete his sentence.
The beginnings of America: recalcitrant people who will stab you to death and survive a 50% population extinction event.
    Don’t forget it!

  7. Yes, loosen the belt and top button…go into a turkey coma, recover, then have dessert. Worth it once or twice a year. Life is good.
