Instead, from the very first email, I found myself corresponding with Indian staff at a shared services center in Noida, whose replies were not always timely.
Today, the vast Indian conglomerate Tata helps run much of the British Council’s HR machinery. They are no doubt highly capable, yet one cannot help but feel a pang. Britain’s soft power, that delicate instrument once wielded by Englishmen in linen suits, is now administered from the bustling city of Noida in Uttar Pradesh, northern India.
As I revealed in the EL Gazette, the British Council has quietly offshored more than 700 administrative roles in HR, finance, and IT to its Noida shared services center. 2010 appears to be a key year in this transition, marking the formal establishment of the shared services model before the subsequent transfer of functions to Tata Consultancy Services.
Beside the choking, horn-blaring frenzy of the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway stands the gleaming Advant Navis Business Park, a cool, sterile citadel of glass and steel rising like a mirage above the dust, noise, and teeming vitality of Uttar Pradesh. Here, in climate-controlled cubicles, sit the Indian teams who now manage the British Council’s human resources, finances, and technology.
Not in London. Not even in Manchester. But here, in the pulsating heart of the subcontinent.

Julius Ceasar has just invaded Britan, through difficulties, so the Italian collapse piece was of interest. But I wonder what Churchhill would say if informed that, yes, “there’ll always be an England” but one whose administration was offshored, or perhaps you might instead say “given back to the Indians.”

A number of years ago my brother and I took his boat and our father down the Monongahela River from Pittsburgh towards West Virginia. Along the way Dad commented that the Brownsville lock must have been moved. My brother and I thought that Dad was just misremembering because the banks look so pristine there could never been a huge concrete establishment like a lock there. The next day we were going upstream towards Pittsburgh and we hit one of the locks and my dad asked the lockmaster when they moved the Brownsville lock. My brother and I both rolled our eyes and the lockmaster said oh that was about 20 years ago. It seems that the current depositing silt and the like changes the draft of the river so that the locks need to be moved occasionally.
The Army is working on it.

Islam is a Social, Political, Economic, Educational, Religious, Military, and Legal system, intertwined within themselves. It’s quite difficult to tell when one of the 7 characteristics ends, and another begins. In any case, they want us under their thumb. I pray that Mr. Trump keeps pressure on them since they only recognize strength; compromise and concession is weakness. Not enough of their main deciders have been neutralized yet.
We have to keep killing the leadership off until we find somebody we can work with.
