Much of the infrastructure is under what you see on the surface, which has been damaged. The questions of how much actual fissile material they have on hand may be something the US and IDF can answer. Was Israel able to ‘dispatch’ the scientists who know how to assemble a nuclear weapon in the early hours of the bombing?
The political decapitation of the Iranian theocracy and its shot callers is as vital as the degradation of radar sites and the elimination of manufacturing capacity for ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
Con: This will cause dislocation. Oil is already up $13 a barrel. There are easily hundreds, if not thousands, of Iranian sleeper agents in the US who have been here for decades. Should they choose to activate (which would be profoundly unwise), they could cause problems in the US.
Pro: Israel has demonstrated an ability to decapitate their enemies. This boil has been pustulating for decades – it is now lanced, one way or another. A counter-revolution against Khamaneni is totally on the table, and I’d be shocked if that were not baked in the cake by Mossad. By taking out the high command of the Iranian military, they have left no one to order counterstrikes (as they did with Hezbollah). Nuclear enrichment is a fragile, complicated process, and wave after wave of airstrikes combined with targeted murder of scientists is sure to do severe damage…but Israel does not have heavy bombers capable of “bunker busting”, so I guess we’ll see.
If this operation works as intended, then yes, there is no downside except for the loss of yet more innocent life. But that’s a huge “if”. Israel has sown Dragon’s Teeth. We’ll see how the dice fall, but no plan survives contact with the enemy. That is the only constant in war.

Sidebar rumination, concerning approaching 65. Mrs W. Crossed the Rubicon to enter the Medicare maze a few yrs ago. She started with United, ended up switching to Humana. In my book, signing up should be optional for those who have better resources, and a tax credit to boot, not a ” fine”. In coming years I’ll be in line to get back the portion that ” they” determine. My contribution was taken by TPTB all my working years, and yes, I declined to suffer the consequences for bowing out of the system, as a few of my constitutional friends attempted to do. Believe me, our family was well treated on the lower end with deductions and loopholes, which I pushed the envelope on. Now the season has come to receive back according to what i paid in, but only by duress.
Self deportation with a $1,000 bonus is incredibly kind. Who says we’re not a kind people? An airplane ticket and money for snacks and an uber ride when you land back home – wherever home is. You’re right, PaulM. We need to squeeze them out of society and incentivize them to leave while at the same time, there is no catch and release. Governmental socialized medicine at its finest. It’s almost as confusing and almost as screwed up as the VA, almost. At least Medicare is just the middleman in the situation and not the actual supplier of health care. But try to stay away from HMO plans and go with something that allows you to choose your own doctors.
Saw someone resembling LL (close relative, clone) with a couple of gent’s in a Central Texas eatery earlier this week. Started to interrupt their meal to introduce self, but decided not to do so. I know how it is for us look-alike guys to be mistakenly identified, especially during a meal time discussion.

If they could manage the murderous drug cartels, it would be a nice place. China took a bad situation there and made it worse with fentanyl. I have MANY friends who live in Mexico – closer than friends – brothers. I hope that I don’t convey a disdain for Mexico on my blog. It has a lot of unrealized potential and so many significant problems. I don’t see how it can get from where it is to where it needs to be.

The targets would be prioritized in the initial strikes – highly prioritized. The people at the top of the list needed to go with the first bombs dropped. The same would be true of the radar and surface-to-air missiles (SAMs). The nuclear plant had to be disabled, with penetration bombing to come – take your time and do it right. I see the rail lines connecting Iran to China as a teritary target of opportunity for the next month. The same would be true of the Iranian Navy. ASW assets need to find and sink their submarines. It’s what Israel did with Syria. The problem with Iran is that it’s a big place. The flip side is that Israel (Mossad and other sister agencies) has been working the Persians so they could beat them like a rented mule when the time came – and it has come.
Would the “bunker busters” be able to be provided by US deployed from Diego Garcia? A few months ago, i believe a lot movement of “heavy haulers” were moved there.
Israel has its own bunker busters, basically paralleling the development of US bunker busters. Israel has a lot of shot-out cannon barrels, which were the shell for some of the modern US penetrators.

I still talk to friends in the car biz. Local conditions are not good; too much inventory. New, prices are out of the reach for most people; they don’t qualify. I always stress the two buyer rule on the majority of vehicle sales. First is the lender, second is the people driving the vehicle.
The buy here/pay here lots are doing well. Even people with good credit are buying there because they are getting turned down by the lenders.
Always the three “Cs”; credit history, capacity, collateral.
With pickups going for $70-$85 grand, only to get trashed on the wonderful American roads, short of a fleet or someone with money to burn, why would anyone buy one new. Not only that but the built-in failures, such as, new pickup engines basically blowing up after 15k miles because of EPA required thinner oil that causes failure (Europe has no requirement, motors are fine), or a host of NASA grade sensors all over the vehicle, one goes bad and the thing shuts down (safety sensors in head/tail light housings make the assembly cost from $2k-$5k…insane). Then there’s the cow urine DEF requirements…the list goes on.
Side story… I note there are not many book reviews on Amazon for LL’s new book… “Conduct Unbecoming. A Collection of Short Stories”. I’ve read the new book, it’s great. Plus a new true short story by Mike Watson. If yiu have not bought it… l highly recommend.

Getting flashbacks to the first trip I took with the Pretty Korean Girl. We were in Phoenix attending a medical conference. She wanted to try some trendy place for dinner that did the “seafood boil in a plastic bag” thing. (I still don’t understand the appeal.) Anyway, the place didn’t take reservations. We showed up and were told the wait was 2 hours, unless we were willing to take a “not so great location” table. We had presentations to give the next morning, so we took the bad table. Turned out to be a sawed-off picnic bench (they were all picnic-bench style seating) right by the bathrooms. I sat with my back to the room because PKG wanted to people watch. It was a really big and popular place, and lots of people going to the bathroom. By the time we left I had a terrible twitch from sitting with my back to a room of nearly 400 strangers, with people nearly continually walking behind my back less than three feet away. I’m getting this crawling sensation between my shoulder blades just thinking about it.

The next day we gave our presentations and rewarded ourselves by sneaking offsite for lunch: Little Miss BBQ (the one on University Drive). There was a long outdoor line, right next to the smokers. We waited 45 minutes with the wind blowing smoke onto us. The food was good (though they sold out of brisket literally one person ahead of me!). When we got back to the conference, on Preventive Cardiology, we were absolutely redolent of smoked meat. I think I enjoyed scandalizing people at this smug rabbit-food conference by smelling of Proper Food at least as much as I enjoyed the barbeque.

The DNC has always warned its politicians that if they stray from the fold, said DNC would ruin them. Like run candidates against them in primaries, denying the offending candidates any money, and inferring that there might be some thuggery or skullduggery applied to said wayward politician.

That’s why you see some politicians who jump all the way to the other side of the Republican party once they jump ship. Gotta go all the way else the DNC will kill you. That used to be figuratively kill you, now it’s literally kill you.

And every time something like this happens and the leftists try to say right-wingers are the violent ones, I always pull up a list of political murders and point out the political beliefs of the assassins. Always a leftist. Always. It’s almost like right wing conservative Christian nationalist males aren’t the problem, no?

No Kings Day was a big hit in Venice (FL). No “We Wuz Kangz” people at all, or any hispanics that I could see. Just the usual OK Boomer lefties aka Sarasota County Democrats, all of 250 @ 11:30am. Average age ‘not long for this world’. With a scattering of pro-Trump folks. Picked up some nice treats for the dog at the farmer’s market, which was a couple blocks away. Turnout a little lower there too, but mostly since the snowbirds went home and it was already 90 degrees.
There are always the hippies, trying to relive the Sixties and the Summer of Love – but they’re a little long in the tooth these days. Still they do show up with lawn chairs to demonstrate for the sake of demonstration.
And in lighter news today, the Israelis bombed the snot out of Iran’s biggest gas field.

I don’t know how much the Persians were supplying to the International Market. I’m sure that most of it was under the table. Gas is trickier than oil in that regard because the ships are far more specialized and distinctive. The Iran Gas Trunkline (IGAT) is a series of large diameter pipelines constructed from gas refineries in the south of Iran (Khuzestan and Bushehr provinces) in order to transfer natural gas to consumption centers across the country. In so doing, they handle their DOMESTIC needs. What that means is that it won’t impact the price structure. Inside Iran, they’re screwed.
It continues to amaze me that people didn’t believe that Israel would take action against Iran’s nuclear program. It’s almost like people forgot that Israel put the kabosh on Iraq’s nuclear program back in 1982, when it was almost ready to finish enriching fuel and start assembling weapons packages.

Funny, the same thing happened against Iran. Israel waited and waited and… waited until the last possible moment, when to restart the whole system would take years if not decades, and then, boom, sword of God or something.

It also amuses me in a dark way that people didn’t and don’t believe that Iran was serious about using nukes against Israel as soon as they had a supply to use.

Thanks to Israel, we, the world, dogged a big bullet. It was and is my firm belief that any nukes used by Iran would have been truck-born and thus ground bursts, which would have been geometrically far worse than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined (as they, as deadly and destructive as they were, were airbursts and that greatly reduced the radioactive fallout and long lasting negative effects of said bombs.)
Iran aspired to have hundreds of ICBMs with thousands of nuclear weapons that they would certainly have used to bring about the wicked designs of their leadership.
