The executive unveiled plans for a “fundamental reset” two weeks ago, which included ditching a series of green energy targets set out five years ago. Writing in the Times, he said “unravelling” investors had received the pledges well. “From my many conversations, our new direction is resonating with shareholders… Most of the questions to me are about how quickly we can deliver,” he said.

BP’s reset will increase oil and gas production to 2.3 million and 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030. It will also raise spending by around 20 percent to $10bn (£7.8bn) per year. The change marks a significant Departure from the prior target of reducing output by around a quarter, from 2019 to 2 million barrels per day. “Our optimism in 2020 for a fast energy transition was misplaced and we went too far, too fast in our plans,” Auchincloss wrote on Monday.”

 

The Canadian Culture Problem at RCMP

Some of you know I have worked closely with the RCMP and CSIS on various matters over the years. My personal relationships there and across the pond at MI-5 in the UK are still strong, but these people have retired. The RCMP was transformed into a woke organization where DEI hires and promotions were the rule, not the exception. Corruption was allowed, tolerated, and, in some cases, celebrated. Some Canadian officials grew rich on the drug trade. People were promoted (and demoted) solely based on gender identity and race.  An ample-bodied lesbian was placed in charge merely because she was a fat carpet eater.

Thus, when President Trump demanded that Canada put the brakes on fentanyl traffic and cross-border contraband, even if Trudeau wanted to do it, he couldn’t. The Latin phrase quis custodiet ipsos custodes, which translates to “who will guard the guards themselves?” or “who watches the watchmen?” comes to mind. 

How big is the organized crime problem in Canada? Let’s hear it from the RCMP.

This brings the matter of changing organizational culture to the forefront. Every family, corporation, and government agency has its own culture. The culture indoctrinates, inculcates, and clones itself as its members are imprinted. It’s not a cult (usually) but a culture. Once excellence is replaced by mediocrity, restoring excellence is almost a generational problem. That’s where Canada is, and that’s what the woke society has created – a version of itself in the RCMP and CSIS.

For that reason, much of the CIA was furloughed, and Patel is cleaning out what he can at the FBI. I’m not providing an excuse for Trudeau and Canada, I’m explaining why they find themselves metaphorically holding their dicks and whistling Dixie.

Some provinces (Alberta comes to mind) have provincial and municipal law enforcement that does an excellent job, but it’s more hit and miss the farther east you travel from there.

 

The DNC Intel Machine

“The original information from an FBI whistleblower first surfaced in 2022. Essentially, the information was that the DNC contracted law firm of Perkins Coie had an FBI workstation in their DC office since 2012.

The Perkins Coie workstation (collocated by the FBI) has access to the NSA database on all Americans, including political figures. The Democrats contracted with Perkins Coie for “political research.” It doesn’t take much thought to realize what this setup was all about; Perkins Coie could conduct opposition research on any candidate and feed that information to the DNC for use in their campaigning.

This means both Marc Elias (DNC lawyer) and Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann could exploit the NSA database to conduct searches of all cell phone, computer, email, text message, social media, electronic communication, and private data/communication belonging to Americans, including geolocation.

The arrangement was in place since 2012. Democrats have held access to fully intrusive electronic surveillance of their political opposition, or anyone else – anywhere, for over a decade. The ramifications of this joint collaborative activity are vast.”

Texas DOGE?

Representative Katrina Pierson introduced HB-3971, a bill to transform the Texas Sunset Commission into the Department of Government Oversight & Efficiency (DOGE). The newly proposed Texas DOGE would mirror the success of Elon Musk’s national oversight team, which has been instrumental in exposing federal wasteful spending, while ensuring findings are directly reported to the Texas Legislature.

“Given the unprecedented waste uncovered at the federal level by Elon Musk and his DOGE team, I believe Texas has an opportunity to lead by example,” said Rep. Pierson. “My DOGE bill ensures we have our dedicated organization to investigate inefficiencies within state bureaucracy. By implementing our own DOGE program, we are taking a proactive step to strengthen transparency in public spending and save taxpayer dollars.”

The proposed Texas DOGE will assess state agency performance, financial practices, and operational efficiency to reduce state spending and eliminate waste. Additionally, all state agencies headquartered in or near Austin will undergo evaluations to determine if relocation could yield cost savings.

Rep. Pierson emphasized that the legislation aligns with Texas’ commitment to fiscal responsibility.

“Texans are being taxed out of their homes, any penny of government waste needs to be discovered and put back into the pockets of taxpayers. By forming our own DOGE, we can more effectively root out unnecessary costs while championing innovation and best practices in government.”

Ancient Ninevah = Modern Day Mosul

I realize that not everyone who follows this blog has visited the Middle East. Mosul (on the border of modern Kurdistan) has a fascinating history. The ancient Library of Nineveh, also known as the Library of Ashurbanipal, was one of the ancient world’s most significant collections of texts. Established by the Neo-Assyrian king Ashurbanipal in the 7th century BC, it housed over 30,000 clay tablets inscribed with cuneiform text. These tablets covered various subjects, including history, law, science, and literature, with notable works like the Epic of Gilgamesh. The library was systematically organized to preserve the knowledge and culture of Mesopotamia, making it a treasure trove for historians and scholars.

In 612 BC, the Medes, Babylonians, and Scythians sacked Nineveh, destroying the city and its library. Ironically, the fires that ravaged the library helped preserve the clay tablets. Unlike organic materials that would have been killed, the intense heat baked the clay tablets, making them more durable and ensuring the survival of their inscriptions. This preservation allowed modern archaeologists to uncover and study these ancient texts, providing invaluable insights into the history and culture of Mesopotamia.

    1. Texas doesn’t have an income tax, so taxes a are a conglomerate of fees. The legislature is a mess, since it’s filled with money-grubbing grifters that cross party lines to keep the grift going. A Texas DOGE will be difficult to run, since there is so much corruption in the legislature. With the capitol firmly set in the liberal hive of Austin the problems are only only exacerbated. Texas, regardless of opinion, has more than its share of bureaucrats, ridiculous DEI policies, and waste. It definitely needs a DOGE, but if I had to guess, that agency would use the power to punish, instead of cutting needed costs.

      1. A good question is: Who is pulling Ted Cruz’s mistress’ strings? I honestly don’t know the answer. Texas DOGE has to be run by the state to clean up the state. FEDGOV only has power over federal matters, and with 254 counties, Texas politics is complicated. The Western states have a LOT of federal land. About 38.6% of Arizona is federal land. This means the federal government owns about 30.74 million acres of Arizona’s 72.69 million acres – for example. Texas has almost no federal land. It’s privately owned. I predict that the federally focused DOGE run by Ted’s side piece won’t get that far. It’s politics and showmanship.

      I crossed the US-Canada border by car the other day. On the Canadian side they had a roadblock and were stopping passenger cars seemingly at random. I was so fortunate as to be selected and was made to shut off ignition, get out of the vehicle and stand in front of the hood. (Get out now. No, you may NOT take your coat. And leave your phone on the dashboard.) A female agent then went through my coat, tossing the pocket detritus onto the passenger seat. After her “search” was I handed my coat and allowed to put it on. I was also “disarmed” meaning the male agent demanded my little pocket knife then tossed it on the dash of my car “for your own safety”. They then (lightly) tossed my car, doing stuff such as opening my suitcase and riffling around, going through the glovebox, and so forth. I had about $500 Canuck in the console storage thing. They pulled that out and tossed it on the dash as well, though they didn’t bother to count it. Weird. The two agents actually doing most of the search were white women, one of whom was quite attractive in a cornfed farmgirl way (not snark). The male agent who made a point of standing within 2m of me, arms crossed to prevent me from approaching the trunk (/eyeroll) looked like the actor who played corrupt DA “Malik” on the TV show Suits. Same beard, same constipated expression. All the guards were physically fit and wore vests. The cute farmgirl agent had a sense of humor. Malik did not. After the women were done, Malik opened up a couple of cardboard boxes I had (porcelain and glassware bought used [1]) in the back seat and made a mess.

      I’d not had that happen before. Maybe I’m a suspicious looking fellow. But they were also pulling over minivans with families inside, and so forth. Agent Malik told me we were being searched “to ensure that Canadian export laws are not being violated.” Yep. Sure. My bet is on dick beating.

      1. What’s in the trunk – reminds me of back when Gary Anderson was making headlines as an Olympic competitor in the shooting events. He had helped out a guy from Czechoslovakia who had run short of cash. Afterwards, while touring Europe, Gary Anderson crossed the border and visited the guy. To repay his debt, the Czech guy gave him some cut crystal. Said crystal was placed in the trunk and caused a bit of a stir when crossing back into Western Europe. The border guard immediately recognized Gary when he stopped. When the guard opened the truck he paused for a bit, then said “glass”, closed the trunk, and waived Gary on through.

      2. My favorite search story comes from long ago when working in my police job in Orange County, I drove to Naval Station North Island on a drill weekend. I think that I was staying at the BOQ there because Coronado and Ballast Point was full. Anyway, I drove through the gate with my M-16 on the back seat with a jacket over it and a .45 under the floor mat. Stopped at the gate to be searched they were doing random cars and mine was selected. I was brusquely asked to get out of the car, groaning inside because firearms were forbidden on base. Three shore patrol types searched my car diligently for about ten minutes and didn’t find the rifle, with spare mags, the handgun, the spare mags in each door (in case you bail you have a mag on either side), and sped me on my way. I thought for sure that I was going to be in trouble. Thank heavens for the usual competence of the shore patrol – which must have move to TSA after their navy hitch.

        1. Met a guy who worked the front entrance at a state prison. The local fed office would bring in trainees while this guy would pretend to be a trustee mopping the floor. The trainees would take turns shaking down the “inmate”, then the fed instructors would do the same. After that the “inmate” would take out all the items they missed in their searches. Bet it opened a lot of eyes :)

          1. No, surprisingly, not. They diligently searched, focusing on the trunk, sorting through my (clean) underwear, and so forth. They did search the passenger compartment but never moved the jacket or lifted the floor mat with the Colt Government-sized lump in it. They focused on the glove compartment and the console compartment. I think that I drove a Toyota at the time—if memory serves, a white Camry. They did comment that the car was immaculate – which it always is.

        Went to Ontario back in ’82 with a buddy to explore the lakes; canoe, backpacks, all manner of gear…packed in a station wagon. Crossing in upstate New York. Basically was “Hi…enjoy your stay.”

We need to run new power lines, add a couple small modular reactors to the North Atlantic States to make sure that we’re self sufficient. Canada is positioning itself as an American competitor rather than an ally.

Apart from his resume of having been a multiple-fold Central Banker and a Goldman Sachs alumnus, Carney is also all-in on “Net Zero”. So basically screw you, Alberta.

    English Channel. How does Red China plan to get its soldiers over the water?

    1. I think that they’ll have the transport capacity. There are issues with the shallow straits, there are lots of logistics questions. Can they put a fifth column in place to take Taiwan without a shot?

  12. Living in the Seattle area for eighteen years, we had many occasions to visit British Columbia. These were usually uneventful crossing into Canada. Coming back, dealing with US Custom, was often a blood pressure raising time.
    At one time managing the skylight division, we had a Canadian distributor who held trade meeting in Victoria’s Empire Hotel. and wanted us there. First mistake; took the wife. Arriving at the border with time to spare, a twenties something female took it upon herself to search my station wagon and asses duties on cutaway skylight displays and sales literature. The delay, plus the slush in my dress shoes, didn’t put me in a good mood. We arrived at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal just in time to see the ferry sail away.
    Sitting in the rain soaked ferry parking lot for 1 1/2 hours waiting for the next ferry, with a smirking wife, wasn’t a high point in our marriage.
    In general I like Canadians. What I don’t like is their f**cking 100 kilometer speed limit.

    1. Canadian highway doctrine: Nobody can drive faster than 62.13 mph and be polite. I’m sure you were listening to Hagar singing “I can’t drive 55.”
