If it’s too bleak, you can always try a new latitude (right). That’s what’s nice about the world that we live in now. It’s different than being stuck in the same old digs unless you want to. You can live like Lord High Executioner Beans in the lap of luxury in a tropical paradise if you’re tired of the snow. Or you can move to the Texas Hill Country and live the life of a gentleman gunslinger and preacher like LSP. Haven’t had any moisture in my neck of the woods for almost 2 1/2 months. LL 50 miles to the West gets a fair amount more than we do. Afraid we will look like LA when summer comes. I have a cousin that bought property outside Wimberly decades ago. From conversations at that time, I determined the land was not desirable, and required a determined individual to live in that area. Now, it’s one of the high dollar “escape” areas for those that don’t want to live in Austin, but work there. I don’t know what the property is now worth, but have a feeling it’s substantially more than the original purchase price. The area is very expensive, swamped by tourism, and a reasonable commute from Austin – where decent people are fleeing if possible.

As to the “consenting adults” thing. Y’all heard about the Neil Gaiman business, right? [1] So now multiple women have come forth with very similar stories about things he did unto them, or had them do. If you get off on watching a woman lick her own shit, you are a deeply twisted individual, and I don’t want to have anything to do with you. “We’re all adults” and “It was consensual” are not cure-alls for everything. He is famous for writing the DC series “The Sandman” among others. I have to admit I really liked “Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess’ STARDUST” (he and illustrator Vess deliberately made their names part of the actual title). I liked the comic/graphic novel, that is. Not the abortion of the movie which for some reason had Robert di Niro as a ship captain dancing the cancan in drag. I also liked his story “Odd and the Frost Giants” which is also an audiobook read by the author himself. (Link below. Ignore the horrible subtitles which are often hilariously wrong. Regarding the Great State of Florida, I live in the section that more resembles, climatically, northern Georgia. We have all 4 traditional seasons here.

Our winters are cold and we normally have 4-10 days of freezing weather, usually isolated and rarely ‘days of/nights of.’ Though we normally don’t get freezing rain nor snow.

Though, Dec 23, 1989, it went from 70’s and rainy to 19 and cold within 5-8 hours. Our airport froze over. I-75 froze over. All the little bridges and overpasses froze over. We had snow that stuck, enough to make an actual snowman (6″ high, but still.)

Our springs go, normally, more like what you’d expect in the Smokies. Cold and rainy to a sudden flush of green and life everywhere.

Our summers are normally in the high 80’s to low 90’s, but humid. As Gainesville is located on the spine of Florida and is surrounded by swamps and oak hammocks, which means not a lot of cooling breezes but lots and lots of sticky humidity. A normal year has 1-4 days hit over 100 degrees, though normal max highs in late summer are in the high 90’s. And normal rains at 4-5pm just long enough to pop the humidity up.

Our falls are, again, like north Georgia. Trees actually do the whole fall color thingy. Days of cold and hot, hot and cold. Cold wet rain.

If you want to go ‘sub-tropical,’ you need to be south of the I-4 corridor that goes from Tampa, through whOrlando and to Daytona. Lots of tropical plants but it still has some cold weather in the winter.

First time I ever saw snow was Dec 25, 1973, in Satellite Beach, FL, south of Cape Canaveral. And there were lots of winters that I pass frozen lawns and plants while riding my bike to school. Which, if I saw that when I was 10-15, then why in the HELL did NASA and Moron-Thiokol make boosters that couldn’t handle 40 or below weather? People still need to be hung over that bullshit.
